  1. That new single track has to be the sweetest piece of dirt I've had my knobblies on... it just flows so beautifully that you can really hook it. Just be wide awake it you're intending to ride up it... it could end up in a nasty prang!!!

Thanks Madelein & le Tour, that's really good news. Yea, I got the new runners world, that's where part of the crazy idea came from... the rest is from a friend that's been on my case... since forever. Madeleine: I'm defintely going to do the TI course as I've only heard good things about it. Le Tour: Never done a full marathon, couple of halves but plenty of AR hiking at that distance. The way I figure it, if I do a fairly solid swim, a good bike (my strongest leg), I could pretty much walk half of the marathon and still make the cutoff?

I think I've lost my marbles... I've got a bee in my bonnet to do this event... next year. Here's my question to those who have done it: Am I wasting my time, bearing in mind I had a shoulder op 6 weeks ago? I haven't been near a pool in 2 years and normally swim like a brick, but I'm willing to go for lessons (T.I)? I can probably only start swimming mid Nov. No need to be gentle with your comments, I need the cold hard truth. PS! I do have an Adv racing backround, so afkak does worry me tooooo much!!!
  4. Sad news idea Homer, my condolences. On a positive note though, I trust he was doing what he enjoyed and it was not the sport that caused the attack?
  5. I've just bought myself an Bell XC Sweep (over the weekend) and it's very comfortable... the adjuster knobbie thing works well and it looks pretty kewl as well !!! I've still got my E2 for sale - Brand new, in box R750 (M)... sorry, only got one of them.

Strange, that job description mentions nothing about drinking vast amounts of brandy!!!!
  7. I clean my polar unit (625X) with an old toothbrush every time it gets mucked up. Besides, the altitude sensor (between the two buttons on the right) always needs to be clean to read pressure correctly. But I hear you big H, there are a few with 'factory faults'.
  8. That's not bad - like I say, 20m either way makes the difference.
  9. Wondu - is that near Crown mines? If so, the heigh is 1710m.
  10. Jason - At the main set of robots at Grand Central the height is 1600m. At the entrance to Kyalami it's 1440m.
  11. Eish, I'm not from your neck of the woods so it makes it hard to find specific areas. The contour intervals are 20m so it's very easy to get this wrong without knowing your co-ordinates but you can work with these: Kempton Park = 1600m Sandton = 1540m Fourways = 1460m
  12. Where abouts in Jbg Gauteng are you? I have a GIS system at work that has contour data available for most of the country.
  13. True, pleanty of time, Napier is just around the corner. Might have to clean the bike before the ride though smileys/smiley36.gif. Are you doing the night ride at Magik tonight?
  14. Marius, you're not gonna want to miss the 9-5... rather delay Napier till next year. It's a great day out on the bike... if the weather plays along.
  15. There was someone in Somerset West that used to import Airborne direct... think it was Helderberg Cycles. Try them, maybe they bring in the VN's.
  16. I'm going to be there as well. Doing the team thing this year. Last years solo is still sitting in the back of my mind... ouch!!! smileys/smiley18.gif Look out for Team Powered by Pancakes... and coffee & beer & love & .... You won't miss us, we're the fat, hairy, lazy okes talking k@k all day and hogging the single track... smileys/smiley17.gif
  17. GoLefty, maybe it's time to change that nick to "Hangbal" smileys/smiley2.gif I have a Arione on the Road bike and a Gobi on the Mtb and hardly notice a difference? But like you said... some guys are just firmer smileys/smiley36.gif
  18. Agreed, go with the Fizik Gobi, you won't be sorry. Far as I know the Arione is their roadbike saddle.
  19. Bertus - My homemade light uses two large camcorder batteries - all I did was cut the top of an old 750ml bottle (we all have tons of those lying around) and squeezed the batteries into the bottle (use sponge if it's loose) and then put it my waterbottle cage on the bike. It's way easier than carrying the battery on your back. TIP: Cable-tie your bike cage to your frame to give it extra support otherwise the cage will eventually break from fatigue.
  20. I've tried a very similar setup with Kool-stops and the results are awesome. Nokon cables are expensive but they're worth every cents (or euro smileys/smiley2.gif) when you feel how smooth they are. You could compare it (very favourably) to the best cable-pull disks on the market.

    MTB Tyres

Yep, the Larsen TT's are probably the best allrounders. Schwable's are my fav though, but too expensive locally.

    A new Frame?

Phone Willie Engelbrecht - he's currently running a special on Scotts CR1 Teams with full 10speed 105 groupset - somewhere in the 15K region.
