  1. I've done the Swartberg Pass twice during the CPT and a few times during training, and the last 3 km of the pass should not be underestimated even if it is less technical. It gets lekker steep, so for a Cx bike with a 36x32 you might be planning for some walking, especially if you have burnt too many matches earlier on.
  2. My connection to Calitzdorp is called Bo-plaas..... Oh and I regularly stay on the Groenfontein farm just east of town!!! Very relaxed with no cell reception.
  3. Glenhoff Craft beer (at a great price) is a must on the hotel stoep!!
  4. Ha, ha, ha - the year of the storm I was in the form of my life that year. First year senior. But when I heard that rain pelting on the roof in the early morning hours - I went back to sleep. Wiele was a poster boy for rule #5. So too Hans and Pierre!!!
  5. Three legends on the cover Wiele - which was my mentor and coach in the early '80's Hans - Amateur legend Pierre - another amateur legend and a good friend of mine
  6. T-touch Solar (ala last Mission Impossible) looks gorgeous!!
  7. Looove the bike. I also have a Giant TCR with the ISP - kitted in 11 spd Chorus.
  8. If there was only money in my bank account....
  9. Fully agree Thor. Give me the 2014 version any day. Singletrack Prologue at Buffelsdrift. Suffering up the Swartberg and Kamanassie - athough I hated the suffering, I looooved it. This is not Pioneering at all. Looks more than a double Sani2C.
  10. Manny the Mammoth :-)
  11. Looks like a nice gravel grinder event!!
  12. Should be an interesting route. The Clarens-Bethlehem-Fouriesburg loop is 120 km, so I would guess they added a 30km out and back portion towards Golden Gate? Not that clear from the profile.
  13. Agree, and look at this from a different angle. With such a small testing pool, why does it take 4 years for SAIDS/CSA to get a positive test result from Yolande? Strengthen by the fact that she declared the use at every doping control?
  14. Interesting... My initial reaction - another doper.. great that she got busted!! But Coincidentally I watched the Namib Quest MTB race last night that I PVRed a while back. They had an interview with Yolande. Mother of 3 kinds - that are out of school already, so she's probably my age (40+). Oudtshoorn resident, racing for Sasol ladies, but not a pro. She struck me as a Klein Karoo soul that enjoys cycling - down to earth, no chip on her shoulder, etc, etc, etc. We'll probably never know all the true facts on this case, but up until all the facts surface, I will not carry a pitch fork. I just have another feeling on this one.
  15. Great read from a great storyteller. More "hartseer" than his earlier works.
  16. For the Afrikaans guys on this thread (that reads books) - give the books of Dana Snyman a chance. Writes a lot about the older days, the good, and the bad.
  17. Agree, was a weak show - but couldn't help to ogle over Julia every week. Same for Banshee - Jessica is a hottie.
