  1. I use a very similar spinning bike ( Old school Raleighhttps://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/hs-fitness-indoor-bike-c1139402?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuJDjrM356gIVhe3tCh3MBQTiEAQYASABEgJ-3_D_BwE). I fitted a Sportsmans basic computer and i have a home training system for those rainy days , lazy days or just recently our total lock down . Set yourself up with a lap top in front of you to watch what ever takes your fancy . Spinning is boring but useful . To give you an honest answer a spinning bike with a fixed wheel and one gear is a spinning bike with a fixed wheel and one gear . Used correctly it will give you the work out you want .
  2. Its called a " Complete Nut and Bolt Restoration " Document everything as it is on photos and video . . Start at one end and strip off the parts putting each section in containers carefully marked ie " Front end fork " ' Back brakes " Cranks and pedals " .etc .Then decide whether parts are restorable or need to be replaced with new . . Keeping it original will always keep the value higher .. If original parts are still available it makes it easier to complete the project . Good luck and enjoy the journey .
  3. Contact Ron Thompson Ron Thompson <ron@motive.co.za> he is one of the originators of the Qhubeka movement . I have other no's for him if needed ill message them to you .
  4. Were are you situated ?. I have a mate wanting to do a project to build a E Bike for getting to work and back ( 4km) . Ill gladly pay your asking price if you sell . Rudy 0836280487
  5. How Much do you want for the bike ..
  6. PM sent .Were are you situated ?.
  7. I just recently bought a Maxxis Aspen rear tyre on the grounds that its a fast rolling tyre but still has good grip . (t turns out the Aspen tire rolls fast! It is so lightweight. Previous to the Aspen, I had a Maxxis Crossmark II rear tire mounted up. I thought the Crossmark II was a fast rolling tire, and it is, but the Aspen takes the cake in that comparison. ) I previously only used Crossmark but am now excited to feel the difference . Read review https://www.worldwidecyclery.com/blogs/worldwide-cyclery-blog/maxxis-aspen-tire-product-review .
  8. I have a 11 speed shimano deore and had it seize on me after about 16,000km in mud , rain and regular washing (some times with hi pressure ) I opened it and found only dirt mixed with the grease ( grime ) in it . I washed it all clean , re greased it with water proof grease re adjusted the the clutch to my liking and have not had a problem since and already done another 12,000 km . I think the trick is to use a better grease than original and adjusting it carefully .I punish my bike, that is i ride through sandy /dusty areas , water puddles and streams , up and down pavements ( lots of derailleur movement ) and rocky gravel roads .
  9. This was started after the senseless killing of two cyclists last year . https://www.facebook.com/groups/stopkillingcyclistssa/ . A lot of input and organizing was done and then Covid got in the way . Please support the group once lock down is eased a bit more some actions will be taken .
  10. Im no triathlete but purely a cyclist and swimmer ( water polo ) . In my 30/40s i cycled every day and swam twice weekly . A fellow cyclist did the iron man from Haartebeespoort to Megawatt Park once . I seconded him on the cycle and run . At the half way distance on the run he wanted to quit so i put my bike in the my bus carrying all our goodies and started running with him to get him through the bad patch . I ran with him up to the entrance Megawatt Park . On the run i reminded him of all the hours spent training in his canoe , bicycle and running shoes . He completed it in just short of 9 hours which for a first is good . Not being a runner and being able to run about 20 km with him surprised me . The point here is that a good base of one discipline helps one get through a triathlon be it short or long . The next day i was not too sore and just spent the next week spinning my gears on my training rides to get the stiffness out . As mentioned swimming is not the most critical discipline but dont come out the water last its a schlep navigating past all those stranglers on their Makro Specials . Good luck and enjoy
  11. Since the alcohol ban its been a pleasure to not have the side of the roads littered with broken glass bottles thrown recklessly out of cars . I use to see this more on my saturday and Sunday morning rides . The other aspect is to not have a drunk coming home from a party past one with in inches of your handlebars . . Im not against the alcohol ban but do feel the difference when riding on public roads .
  12. We use a QAC with water and glycerin through a Thermal Fogging machine ( dont ask me the ratios ) . For a house its only if you have had strangers in it or a confirmed case of covid 19 . Factories and warehouses are the biggest areas of concern because of stock , material and people movement in and out . We do a lot of Film /Video recording sets every day .
  13. My company is a hygiene and PPE product supplier and my one son and wife are paramedics so being in the front line is something i know very well . We have a very strict protocol for couriers collecting , walk in customers and casual lets see what you sell type customer . We do all the temp checks , hand wash and even go so far as to spray the customers clothing if they want to walk through our stores . We dont allow them to touch any product that we need to sell on again . We have started doing sanitizing (Fogging ) of offices , warehouse and factories so we sanitize our own warehouse and office every afternoon when we close . Im retired and use to go into the office once a week and not done that since a two weeks before lockdown .
  14. Stick it out till the trails open . Im in the same situation with my rear tyre . Its got about 5000km on and the center tread is smooth , so pumped hard its good for road riding . Off road tyres wear faster on tar than off road .
  15. I ride on residential roads with many runners , cyclists , families and dog walkers using the same routes . I saw a group of people ( wrong ) on a corner and suddenly their dog a doberman not on a leash rushes towards me . I braked hard to stop but it kept coming at me . The owner first shouts out "sorry i didn't see coming " and only then calls the dog which did no really listen because he stayed in the road growling at me . I shouted at the owner that he should have the dog on a leash . I see a lot of dog walkers without leashes on their dogs . This is going to end badly for someone and in the end the dog is destroyed because it attacked a human . Wrong ,fine the **** out of the owner so he remembers what his indiscretion cost him every time he walks his dog .
  16. I remember the bicycle licence disc . We had to by it each year in February ( In the 60's we paid 50c) If caught without it you were fine R5.00
  17. The 5 km radius from my house fits my 40 km hilly on road or pavement circuit in . I went at 7.13 knowing this route takes me +_ 1hr 45min to ride . I timed it so well that i rode into my gate at 8,59, 54 . ( Haha ) . My route takes me through industrial and residential areas . The road was so quiet i could have ridden in the middle of the road with out obstructing traffic . I saw a lot of cyclists / runners / dog walkers and families with kids out enjoying some freedom . Most cyclists and runners had masks or buffs on and were alone or in pairs . The culprits not obeying the rules were dog walkers with no masks and families with small kids and no masks . I especially did this route as the last time i rode it was the day before lock down and wanted to compare times . I was in fact by 4 min ( I think no traffic helped ) and the fact that i had been on my spinning bike and done 1020 km in 18 days . I had a SAPS car go past me on the one hill and i got a hoot and a thumbs up from them . Lets hope it stays like this during level 4 and you can all get back to your level of fitness from before lock down . Stay safe keep to the rules and times and not be selfish and spoil what little time we have been allowed out . Sounds terrible .
  18. Besides your proof of address i suggest you print this showing your radius allowable and carry that with you as well . https://2kmfromhome.com/za/index.html
  19. This is the first time since starting cycling again that my Mtb has not been ridden daily . I have rotated the wheels a few time and made sure the valve was in the 12 o clock position ( not sure why ) . Now with cycling being allowed tomorrow from 6 to 9 im getting ready , chain is clean , tyres are pumped , brake lever pressure pads checked and bike cleaned and polished . One aspect im not sure about is the slime in the tyres . ! ) should i just top up OR 2) should i clean out old and replace with new
  20. Ive changed my mind ( im allowed to im an ou toppie ) i rode my IDT yesterday and today watching Chicago . Very different from the hard rock i like to spin to but entertaining none the less . I now want to play a brass instrument in a band . Not the sax , too many buttons , not the trombone , i might hit my fellow musicians with the slide but the trumpet . Its only got 3 buttons ( valves or keys ) so it should be EASY to master . I have a good pair of lungs so it will help keep them healthy.
  21. Im doing my 2 X 1 hr sessions everyday without fail . I rode to Linkin Park yesterday and like the rock genres but im not a rap van but got through those pieces by spinning hard . By chance i came across Scorpions ( German Rock Band ) They were playing at a stadium in Rio de Janeiro and that stadium was packed 350,000 people which ,makes for a good vibe and noise to train to . Im always amused at how those camera men can find the real party goers and especially the pretty woman that they bring up real close . Aerosmith was next and they were good as well . Now you know my kind of music as long as its a live concert please make more suggestions we still have 10 days to go ( hopefully )
  22. I decided to use my garmin with the HRM while spinning .I work on a 153 max . My resting HR is 43 and normal 55 . Im spinning at 90/100 rpm and see my HR is between 95 and 100 so one revolution per heart beat . When i speed up to sprint i get to a max of 125/130 which again is one revolution per heart beat . If i push that last 10 to 15 seconds which is about the last 200/250 metesr of a race i only reach 140 . My question is can i push harder for longer and will it be beneficial . I ask all these questions because i dont have all these modern pieces of equipment that help with training and letting one know when to rest and for how long . Im old school and if asked by youngsters how i train i tell them "Flat out " .
  23. Ive decided after watching numerous rock bands that i want to be the drummer . To start the song i get to count down from 3 or knock my drum sticks together as a count down . I have a lot more toys around me and and when doing a solo if i go off key its not really noticed . I also get to bang the the bass drum with my foot pedal so keeps legs active . Im also seated the whole time so i would put a good padded saddle on my drummers chair which is spring loaded like a dual sus mtb . Then at the end of the song i also get sound the end by bashing the cymbals stack . By the way my wife said my singing sucks
  24. I use studio type spinning bike with 25 kg fly wheel and fixed cog . Necessities are , ride in your usual cycling shoes , cycling pants and or jersey , head phones, towel , small fan in front of bike and ceiling fan if you have inside . I use a big screen computer on which i have a live concert of two hours to watch . (! hour morning 1 hour afternoon ) I like rock music from the 70/80's bands that now do concerts around the world . I spin a at 90/100 rpm but crank it up to 120/130 on instrument solos for however long they are ( some can be 4/5 min long ) .
