  1. Race numbers and cables will probably be in the way? Other option might be to move the Garmin to the stem?
  2. Looks very comfy. Is there space to fit a light next to the stem or do you go with helmet mounted only? Thinking of events like 36One.
  3. Thought it was just me...
  4. Apparently a problem on various models of the Brand...
  5. Enjoyed him in Inglorious Bastards too, actually all acting in that movie was good...in my opinion.
  6. ....but also more cold?
  7. Looks like the event will be a month later next year...
  8. Well done to all who attempted, finished and smashed the 36One! What a long day I had, came home just after 22.00 after 28 hours and some change on the bike. Knees started bugging after CP1 so spent almost 300km's in the paincave, a smallish one up untill Rooiberg and the mother of all Cango caves from there to the finish. Started pushing some sections on Rooiberg and realised that it helped the pain in the knees a bit so did a lot of walking on the last stage. My hands are still numb in places and apparently I have big toes but cannot feel them at this point...
  9. He must be some kind of hacker to, apparently writing on your blog!
  10. Just to make sure I have enough water I am thinking of putting an extra empty bottle in my CP2 box to take with for this stretch as I will most probably be there during the hotter times. Will fill it up at WP7 then so that I have 3 bottles with me for this stretch and maybe the stretch after.
  11. Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated! For a first timer I guess it is a 'plan for the worst' scenario as per Leon's post.Plan for 36.09 hours...
  12. Thanks Fanie! My wife was planning to meet me at all the checkpoints but I was thinking of discouraging her to do so, especially for CP2 as I will probably get there at a stupid time. CP3. I presume the cell reception is good enough to alert them about an hour or so out? Not sure where she will be at that time.
  13. What do you guys put in your boxes? From what I gather there is no need for food/drink etc, maybe just refills of 'gummyberry juice - whatever your poison' for your bottles? Maybe some warm kit in the 1st box depending on the weather? Some sunscreen and an extra light for the 3rd box in case you go into the second night? I guess it will all depend on your target & personal preferences but would appreciate some input from the 'old hands'.
  14. I reckon I will too, if only for the legs and backside to do something different...
  15. Thanks TW! Yip, that is the plan, but is my plan good enough I have been doing all my training at a riding average of about 18km/h and my plan is to finish in 24 hours if all goes well, which leaves me about 4 hours at the check and waterpoints which should be more than enough... If I manage a faster riding average after evaluating at checkpoint 3 and I'm still feeling good I will push a bit.
  16. You two guys (Dane & Fanie) are not helping a newbie at all with this talk...
  17. Thanks. I was actually at the Doc yesterday and took the form along to ask him so long. None of the questions he has to complete is time specific, more general stuff and history so was wondering....
  18. Hi All, Don't know if I'm missing it somewhere but is there a limit to the time before the race that the doctor can sign off on your medical?
  19. Yip, looking at the profile fanie posted I can see why that section would be tough, will keep that in mind.
  20. My wife and I had a great ride and experience, memories made that we will talk about for a long time. It was her first CTCT and after the disappointment of not being able to ride last year the awesome weather made up for it! We are primarily mountain bikers(she said to me that 'Ek sal nie regkom op daai dun wieletjies nie' so we started together in 6E and had great fun, stopping for pics along the way wherever we could. The vibe along the route was great and we thanked all the supporters taking time out and making the effort in cheering us along, also thanking the marshals and people manning the water points whenever we could. I must agree with what a lot of people said, you have to be vigilant in the back bunches and always try and think what the person in front and to the side of you might do. We decided to pass some people on the gravel on Smits for example as there was just too much swaying and sudden stopping going on. Biggest scare was when one of the Virgin Angels gave her a push on Suikerbossie for a couple of metres and promptly decided to run into me when he was tired, riding to the right and a bit behind them. I ended up giving him a lift on my bars for a couple of metres trying to keep the bike upright. Luckily managed to come to a standstill without falling. We had a great day out and came in under six hours(my 'podium' expectation before the event). Awesome day out cruising the peninsula, you guys in the Western Cape are spoilt! Much better scenery than Bloem that is for sure
  21. Thanks TW! Luckily my strongest 'muscle' is my mental 'strength' and attitude so should be ok. Like the endurance side of things and with the help of the last couple of threads and advice from you guys my 'raceplan' should be good. Have done 9 Transbaviaans rides(including a 'double' last year) but somehow still feel apprehensive about this one. Guess I'm still to make that mindshift that I can do it.
  22. Will be my first one and looking forward to it, but also a bit 'scared' of the unknown and how the body will cope after 230km(my longest ride to date). Training has not been ideal, 'lost' two months through illness and only picked up training again in mid-Jan, very slowly. Currently doing 2/3 structured wattbike sessions a week, 2 strength/flexibility/core session in the gym and a long ride(6-8 hours) on Saturday with a short 1-2 hour on Sunday. My gold medal time will be 24 hours but also happy just to finish and enjoy the ride!
  23. What do you guys think Big H would have said..."Julle klomp suurtiete moet julle eie debat op 'n ander plek begin, hier praat ons net 'awesome'" Well that is what I'm thinking

    Cricket......

It is a long-term plan to beat Australia. We are preparing spinning pitches and will then play 3 spinners, will throw them completely and negate their pace attack. Vern and Rabada will also be slowing it right down
