  1. I reckon I will too, if only for the legs and backside to do something different...
  2. Thanks TW! Yip, that is the plan, but is my plan good enough I have been doing all my training at a riding average of about 18km/h and my plan is to finish in 24 hours if all goes well, which leaves me about 4 hours at the check and waterpoints which should be more than enough... If I manage a faster riding average after evaluating at checkpoint 3 and I'm still feeling good I will push a bit.
  3. You two guys (Dane & Fanie) are not helping a newbie at all with this talk...
  4. Thanks. I was actually at the Doc yesterday and took the form along to ask him so long. None of the questions he has to complete is time specific, more general stuff and history so was wondering....
  5. Hi All, Don't know if I'm missing it somewhere but is there a limit to the time before the race that the doctor can sign off on your medical?
  6. Yip, looking at the profile fanie posted I can see why that section would be tough, will keep that in mind.
  7. My wife and I had a great ride and experience, memories made that we will talk about for a long time. It was her first CTCT and after the disappointment of not being able to ride last year the awesome weather made up for it! We are primarily mountain bikers(she said to me that 'Ek sal nie regkom op daai dun wieletjies nie' so we started together in 6E and had great fun, stopping for pics along the way wherever we could. The vibe along the route was great and we thanked all the supporters taking time out and making the effort in cheering us along, also thanking the marshals and people manning the water points whenever we could. I must agree with what a lot of people said, you have to be vigilant in the back bunches and always try and think what the person in front and to the side of you might do. We decided to pass some people on the gravel on Smits for example as there was just too much swaying and sudden stopping going on. Biggest scare was when one of the Virgin Angels gave her a push on Suikerbossie for a couple of metres and promptly decided to run into me when he was tired, riding to the right and a bit behind them. I ended up giving him a lift on my bars for a couple of metres trying to keep the bike upright. Luckily managed to come to a standstill without falling. We had a great day out and came in under six hours(my 'podium' expectation before the event). Awesome day out cruising the peninsula, you guys in the Western Cape are spoilt! Much better scenery than Bloem that is for sure
  8. Thanks TW! Luckily my strongest 'muscle' is my mental 'strength' and attitude so should be ok. Like the endurance side of things and with the help of the last couple of threads and advice from you guys my 'raceplan' should be good. Have done 9 Transbaviaans rides(including a 'double' last year) but somehow still feel apprehensive about this one. Guess I'm still to make that mindshift that I can do it.
  9. Will be my first one and looking forward to it, but also a bit 'scared' of the unknown and how the body will cope after 230km(my longest ride to date). Training has not been ideal, 'lost' two months through illness and only picked up training again in mid-Jan, very slowly. Currently doing 2/3 structured wattbike sessions a week, 2 strength/flexibility/core session in the gym and a long ride(6-8 hours) on Saturday with a short 1-2 hour on Sunday. My gold medal time will be 24 hours but also happy just to finish and enjoy the ride!
  10. What do you guys think Big H would have said..."Julle klomp suurtiete moet julle eie debat op 'n ander plek begin, hier praat ons net 'awesome'" Well that is what I'm thinking

    Cricket......

It is a long-term plan to beat Australia. We are preparing spinning pitches and will then play 3 spinners, will throw them completely and negate their pace attack. Vern and Rabada will also be slowing it right down
  12. Very true, nothing at this point actually means anything...
  13. About 27km, guess a bit more than an hour in time.
  14. Yip. I suggest that you also change the video shown on your website for the Saris Thelma as this video seems to be for the Saris Thelma but the racks you distribute is the Saris EURO Thelma which have a different mechanism and is a bit misleading. When following the links for the manual download it is the American version that downloads. Thanks for the effort, I've found the correct manual download.
  15. Thank you but I'm getting a 404 error on the link. Did not have a manual in the packaging when I bought the rack...
  16. My Thelma 3 does not sit snug on the ball of the towbar, sort-of moves down a bit once on. It is a new towbar so not worn or something. Does anyone have the same problem or is there something one can do to tighten it, I had a Buzzrack which had a knob one could turn to tighten the fit but do not see anything similar on the Thelma.
  17. But only in death...
  18. It will be my first one and I reckon consistency is key...just keep ticking over from here, similar to what GAP is doing. Also did Trans(rode both weekends just to see how the body goes) and learnt some valuable lessons on what my body and specifically wonky knees do when loaded.
  19. pppsssstttt...because my left arm is at an odd angle compared to my right Actually, I think this was just after my first ride with my new bar and I misjudged the width going down a singletrack 'alley' at one of our trails, burying the left grip, brake lever and my shoulder in the embankment....

    Cricket......

4 down before lunch with Chef & Wortel both back in the hut!
  21. Only time available for us would be Dec/Jan holidays. Roads will probably be busier and the heat could be a killer. But would love to do it!
  22. Thanks! Had lots of fun sourcing the 'special colour bits' to add to the 'bastard' parts taken from other bikes and pieces I had lying around. Hairy's influence comes through in the red accents...red is always faster!
  23. 780mm for me as well
  24. Rest in Peace Holy Roller... Thinking of this passage from Shawshank Redemption today, quote might not be accurate: "Sometimes it makes me sad, Andy being gone. I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend"
  25. Heal up well and keep strong Holy!
