  1. One of my all time favourites! Would love to see PJ in SA!
  2. You will get feet wet again between the two Fangs and some splashes in the lead-up to MAC. We always change socks at CP4. We also put some wetwipes in the box, helps to feel nice and fresh for the last stretch. There are a couple of water crossings after the Big Dipper that you can slowly roll through without getting feet wet.
  3. I would take this with a bag of salt or typical Wikus humour. As Vetseun said earlier on the thread, prepare for the worst(get your mind right) and it won't be so bad, nothing you can do about it but ride what you get, including weather and road conditions.
  4. Team Number 68 - Almal op die Trein. Going for 'official' number 10 and unofficial number 12. Aiming for a 14 -16 hour finish.
  5. As Velo says, just at the point you are starting to wonder whether you have missed it...At least you won't have to start climbing straight out of the CP either.
  6. When you hit that 'roller' section you pass the Police station on the left. Zandvlakte is about 10km's from there, just after the last steepish down. The farm is on the right with the school across the road on the left, just after this the road makes a right left and about 2-3km's from there you go through the reserve gate. Velo won't be able to pinpoint it, he goes through there much too fast...
  7. So you are telling me to just open my eyes and read
  8. Yip. Will change the race dynamics and logistics...and enable me as a back marker to finish in daylight...I hope. 1st WP at 58km and the 1st CP at 99km. Wonder where the CP will be, might be a slight route change as well?
  9. Mmmmm, not a peep from theHub regarding the 2020 version, or did I miss something?!? What I did not miss was grabbing myself an early bird entry at halfprice
  10. I reckon Admin should put something in place that for every post a member makes one is counted towards Holy Roller's(Tumbles) counter to get him to the top and that he remains there...although at the rate Dale posts that might not even be enough
  11. Yip, just you, 361 exactly. Neutral zone of about 4km not included.
  12. Race office just replied to my email. The route team confirmed that the distances as per the website, specifically those for the 2 x Rooiberg WP's are incorrect and will be rectified on the website this week. They have the top of Rooiberg at 255km but did not specify whether this included the neutral zone, I guess it doesn't.
  13. Thanks for the heads-up on the medical guys. I just got an email back from them saying that the route team will check the distances queried and revert.
  14. Yip so that sounds about right. When Waldo mentioned it on this thread I remembered you also mentioned it in your race report last year. I emailed them about it yesterday to check but no response as yet.
  15. No I don't think that is the case. Neutral zone was about 4km's and according to my file from last year the top of Rooiberg was at 252km(excl neutral zone), they have that as the WP at the bottom and the top as 264km. Another indicator is that they have Calitzdorp at 280km which is correct but it is definitely not only 16km from the top of Rooiberg to CP3. What do you have from last year?
  16. The Race Rules pdf is a bit muddled, has some info/dates from 2018 in it. I still agree with Waldo regarding the distance markers for the 2 x Rooiberg WP's, they seem to be out by about 10km as the other points are all correct? Don't see anything about the compulsory medical we had to do last year or am I missing something?
  17. Yes they did, maybe just another route in/out? It was mentioned somewhere that they will be cutting out some tar sections.
  18. Yip that would make sense, bakkie with a couple of cans of water for an emergency.
  19. I know it is cooler so most people do not hydrate as much, but don't you think it is a bit of a stretch for the very back markers/if something goes wrong to go without water? I know, we must plan, but the cut-off time is 7 hours to that point so it has been anticipated that someone might take that long? Quite a stretch...
  20. Looks like the updated route is up on the website. If I am reading it correctly, looks like they dropped the 1st WP at the 36km or so mark and the 2 Rooiberg WP's marked as permanent.
  21. I'm actually quite excited, if only for the fact that my cousin will ride his first one and I will have some company. Entered solo but will try and ride together, Will probably also sit on the same mark km wise. Very true, on such a long event lots can go wrong, I guess I've just had luck on my side so far when it comes to not having a DNF.
  22. You are overtraining, stop now I guess it depends on what your goal is and what you know you are capable of, but if those were my numbers and times I will not be worried at all... That said, after 12 hours on a bike it becomes more and more mental by the hour, or is that minute...
