  1. double post
  2. So Just and update. My frame was replaced under warantee. A big thank you to Fareed from Westdene cycles. The cracked frame needed to go to Cape Town to be assessed at Head office. The old frame was a 2012 frame and was replaced by a 2013 frame. I was not charged a cent by Westdene Cycles to have the components taken off the old frame and put onto the new frame. I needed to nag the Giant rep as well as Westdene Cycles a bit, but overall, I give kudos to all parties involved. Took 10 days from giving the old frame in to getting the new one. My "New" steed
  3. So just some feedback. Took my bike to Westdene Cycles this am. As luck would have it, the rep from Giant was at the store. He looked at the crack, pulled the chainstays apart and confirmed that the frame was cracked. Photos were taken and emailed to "Head office" The frame will hopefully get replaced under warantee within the next couple of days. Its now a race against time to get my bike back before the "Ride for Sight." The Giant rep and the Bike shop recon it can be replaced in time. Time will tell, otherwise I may be the guy trying to keep up with the bunch on my trusted old 26" MTB.
  4. So just an update. After praying to the cycling gods, making sure my medical aid was paid up and that I wore my best helmet, I rode the Berg and Dale today. (I should have also prayed for more cycling talent and better endurance as well, but that's for another day.) I suspect the frame is toast. After the ride, the original crack looks more prominent and there is a second one parallel to the original one. I will take to my LBS and see what happens on Monday. Attached below is the new picture taken after my race.
  5. Will do so
  6. I hope so. I will pray to the cycling gods and ride it tomorrow. If it extends than its a crack.
  7. Thanks a million Iv got a few dents on my car. Can you fix as well. .
  8. Will take to LBS on Monday. But im riding the Berg and Dale tomorrow. Should I chance it.
  9. Will have a look. Thanks.
  10. What you see in the pic is exactly where the "crack" is. I have highlighted the extent of the crack using MS paint.
  11. Hi Fellow Hubbers. So I was washing my bike today and horrified to see what appears to be a crack in the frame. The frame is a Giant TCR advanced. Attached is a picture and close up of the "crack" The defect in the paint is clearly visible and I can get the tip of my nail in the gap. Please note that the bike is upside down when I took the photos. What do the Hubbers think. Is my Frame toast, or is it just a scratch in the paint.
  12. DL for me. This race is one tough bugger. I still get flashbacks from last year when I rode the last 50km with cramps. Was the most I have ever suffered on a bike. Only reason I'm back is that I refuse to let the course get the better of me.
  13. Hi Hubbers. As cyclists, we spend many hours on the bike subjecting our skin to all sorts of punishment. viz, harsh sunlight, wind, rain, mud, dirt etc. As a cyclist, how do you care for your skin. From my perspective, i make sure that I always apply sunblock before a ride. I use Nivea with a SPF factor of 30 or higher. I also always ride with UV protectors for my arms. The biggest problem I face is when the sunscreen mixes with sweat and gets into the eye. "Eina". Anybody have a solution to this problem. After my ride, I was all the gunk off apply "Nivea body lotion for men" to my skin. (I do not work for Nivea or endorse their products. That's just what I use). What do you use and are there better products available.
  14. There is a bike shop on the main road. Speak to the guys there. They have all the info regarding routes in the area. Not sure the name of the shop but you can't miss it if you follow the main road along the n2.
  15. Not sure if it's worth the cost but the shifting is really nice. Always crisp and perfect shifts. No tinkering with the system once set. It just works.
  16. Hijack on Have the same problem. Seems like a "first world" problem if there ever was one. Where can I get the firmware update done in JHB.
  17. Chuck Norris was driving both trucks in the top picture.
  18. Hi Thats a Giant ridesense sensor that fits in specific Giant frames. Here is the link to the user manual. You can find instructions there. http://www.giant-bic...e_manual_V2.pdf
  19. Their cost price on that chain is under R70. They are making more than 100% profit. I suppose you need to do your research and make an informed decision when buying from anywhere. At least your school fees were not too much this time.
  20. Can you imagine the smell associated with the explosion.
  21. I've only done 1 Argus thus far so i'm not professing to be an expert but can go on personal experience. Whilst the Argus is a longer race, there are many places where you can recover and take it easy. I find that with the 94.7, the rolling nature of the course makes the downhills relatively short and allows little time to recover. The course also makes bunch riding difficulty. Every so often you come to a climb that destroys the group. The N14 is a suffer fest of note. (Nothing like it on the Argus route.) Also, the openness of the roads in the 94.7 makes it more difficult for bunches to stick together. Thefore, in my opinion, there extra distance of the Argus is offset by the difficult nature of the 94.7 course.
  22. Personally, I think they are about the same.
  23. Was thinking the similar thing. Just an observation: Argus 2013 had 35 000-36 000 entries (Not sure the exact number) with 31 652 registered finishers = 88% of entrants registered as having completed the race 94.7 2013 had 31 000 entries with 20 580 registered finishers = 66% of entrants registered as completing the race. 88% vs 66% is a huge discrepency. Possible Hypotheses for the discrepency: 1. You need to scan your racetec chip at number collection for the Argus. Cant collect your number without a Chip. Therefore fewer riders riding without a chip (Not sure how the collection process works for entrants without a racetec chip). . 2. 94.7 is tougher than the Argus. (Altitude, heat, road conditions). More non finishers. 3. Conversely, Capetonians are tougher and fitter. (Probably not) 4. More no shows for the 94.7 5. Number of entrants falsely inflated by the organisers of 94.7 Thats what I can think about for now.
  24. I think CWC are Tacx agents as well.
