  1. It does have an allen key socket, but im sure I will bend or break the allen key if I apply more force.
  2. Hi Hubbers Im trying to remove the pedals from my mountain bike. Ive been riding the bike for about 18months now. It seems that the pedals have "bonded" to the crank arms. No matter how much force I apply, I just cant loosen the pedals. (Yes I am turning the pedals in the correct direction.) Ive tried spraying Q20 into the threads without any joy. Any other tricks I can try. Thanks in advance.
  3. These may be just up your street
  4. My father in law took his Merc to a dealer in PTA 2 weeks ago. (Out of Motorplan) R4000 for front breaks. From that, R1600 was for parts and the rest was labour. Heck, they even invoiced R250 to remove the tyres and put them back on again.
  5. You have to take out painted drawing pins from your bike tyres.
  6. Most watch or jewelery shops can do it immediately, or you can simply do it yourself. Replaced my battery last week. Took 5 mins. This will cancel your warantee though.
  7. Your body has released cortisol, adrenaline, glucagon, growth hormine all of which has increased your blood glucose. All these hormones are relased in time of stress and their effect is to increase blood glucose. Just be careful that you dont go hypo after your excercise. Also, as the other posts have listed, what meds are you on and when did you take the prior to your ride.
  8. So as I was leaving the 94.7 expo, came across some clowns at the very last exhibit trying to sell Oxygen in a can. They claim that 4 puffs of oxygen from the can prior to your race will improve your race performance. Had an entertaining argument with the youngster trying to sell the product. Suggested that they pair up with the Powerbalance dudes.
  9. Is it just me or are the Technogym bikes at Virgin Active the most poorly designed exercise bikes in the world. I just cant find a comfortable position to cycle in. The seat is way too big and the cycling position is too upright. I also cant find a place to comfortably place my hands. Thank goodness my local VA has spinning bikes a row behind the Technogym Bikes.
  10. Very interesting thread. A few personal observations. 1. Ive found that from a cardiovascular perspective, its much easier to attain my maximum HR when running when compared to cycling. (May be better to run when doing intervals) 2. Cycling much kinder to the body. Can recover much faster from a 3-4 hour ride than a 3-4 hour run. (Will probably lose more weight cycling as I can easily cycle much longer than I can run) 3. Cycling does not do much for the hamstrings. You may be prone to knee and hamstring injuries in non cycling related sports if your quads are much stronger than you hamstrings). Running will help strengthen the hamstrings. 4. Cycling in a gym for more than 30-40 mins gets rather boring(Unless doing a spinning class). Running will add variety. In my opinion, a little running would help in overall cycling training.
  11. Starting in GG: 8h34. Gonna be hot as hell on the N14. Started in KK last year and started at 8h15. Are there some additional groups this year?
  12. And Pleeease, Dont try and sell Powerband bracelets. Most people on this forum are not stupid and won't fall for that crap.
  13. The hook is curved so you will need about 25mm clearance to pass through the gap. Will definitely not fit through an 8mm gap. The straps will definitely pass through. I dont think unthreading the straps everytime is particularly cumbersome. Will take you 2 mins tops. Will not reommend putting the straps over the spoiler. You are guaranteed to damage the paintwork that way. Suggest you see the agents at clearwater. Im sure they will have a test unit to try before you purchase.
  14. The thule 968 (Strap on) will probably fit. Thats what I use, although i dont have a spoiler,i dont see why the straps shouldnt fit througt the gap.
  15. What about loosing 1kg bodyweight and saving your money.
  16. This is a well known issue with the 305. Just search the forum. Much has been discussed about this problem including a DIY fix if the unit is out of warantee. Heres a link https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=73021&KW=garmin+305funjunkie2010-06-07 15:02:31
  17. Hi Hubbers. Im planning on getting an indoor trainer for the cold winter mornings/evenings. Im looking for something inexpensive. Dont care about those fancy virtual rides etc. 1. What make would you recommend? (Must not be excessively noisy. 2. Does using an indoor trainer put any more stress on the bicycle components compared to an actual ride? Thanks
  18. Sent my watch few years ago to Polar. Took three weeks to change the frikken battery. Next time, went to a local watch dealer. Took 2 mins and cost me less than half. Absolutely no problems with the watch.
  19. The picture quality is pretty *** as well.
  20. What does the bike weigh?
  21. Adjust the sensor and magnet in such a way that the touch. Do this buy turning the sensor inwards towards the spokes. You can also adjust the the magnet outwards towards the sensor. Spin the wheel slowly, and a tiny gap will be created when the sensor and magnet touch. Hope this helps.
  22. To go for 9 to 10 speed, you will need a totally different groupset. ie, 10sp sti's, FD, chainrings, chain and RD. Wish it was as easy as just changing the cassette.
  23. Pathetic coverage.
  24. What, no black socks?
  25. Nice pics.
