  1. Early lead to Veebee!! Maybe it was just a foodbaby leftover from the holidays hehe?
  2. Now imagine what difference 30kg make! I clocked a 06:47 this morning on the closest climb to my house without trying to push very hard..it used to take me over 14:00 to do.
  3. Eat what works for you! Everyone is different. I cut out sugar and eat eggs daily and lost 30kg. I skip the bacon though. Every morning fasting ride for 1-2 hours, right after that I drink a Futurelife Smartfood Chocolate and a coffee with 2% milk without sugar. 10:00 tea with milk, without sugar and a fruit like an apple or orange, usually not banana. 13:00 one slice rooibos rye bread with 2 baked eggs not cooked in oil with a knife point of mayo. 15:00 tea without sugar. For dinner usually chicken breast and halve an avo. I never feel hungry when I eat like this. For dinner I vary my meals, but I try to get the calories and nutrition to be more or less the same as above. I usually take in between 1500 and 1800 calories per day. This week I started training in the mornings and evenings aswell. Bit of upper body strength training and jogging. Hopefully this will add to my cycling fitness and weight loss.
  4. Hahaha! Racing first and then attending a wedding is completely different!! I was considering doing both and was 90% sure I will, but my wife stepped in and said I should stop being stupid. I can do both, but I won't enjoy both.. I don't drink much, but after two beers I'm a different person, and that guy can drink! The bar closes at 02:00am, I'm assuming I'll be in a startgroup around 07:00? So should aim to be there at 06:00am. The wedding is up the West Coast, minimum 2h30min drive from Cape Town. That means a quick 1 hour nap to sober up before hitting the road. That does sound stupid typing it out now. My wife was right..again.
  5. I have to sell my entry if someone is interested. Was super hyped entering for my first Argus, completely forgot my sister's getting married that weekend. Guess the Argus will have to wait another year..
  6. Old post I know, just taking a chance here, maybe some of you are still around.. Any of you guys know the expected lifespan of these Maxxis Ikons? I'm running a Ikon 2.2 at the back and a Ardent 2.4 on the front. After 3600km the Ardent still looks great, but the Ikon has very little tread left. I've put these tyres through hell and they are holding up very nicely! Will fit the same combo again..just wondering how far I can push the Ikon.. Maybe another 400km, or another 1400km? All previous tyres(Scwhalbe and Kenda) I had to replace because of sidewall cuts/snakebites etc. This is the first time I have to think of replacing tyres because of tread running low.
  7. Haha, I guess it's partially genetics..and suffering for an hour up a hill on a daily basis! Even when I was at 125kg, smoking and super unfit, my resting HR was around 72, which I think is lowish for an unfit person. I actually measured 34 bpm the other night during my sleep.. Usually it's between 36-40 when I'm sleeping/resting, and as soon as I get up and start moving around it picks up to between 50-60. As I'm sitting here now, drinking coffee and typing this, it reads 43.
  8. Not a Before and After...rather a Before and During. Looking back and realizing how far I have actually come since June 2017 to get me motivated for 2019 again after this three weeks of binge eating! Still a long way to go, but at least there has been some change since then.. apart from the weight, the overall health benefits and fitness gains feels amazing. For the first time in about 15 years I went 2018 without one day of being sick. I can get on my bike and ride 100km into the mountains with relative ease, something that seemed absolutely crazy and impossible to me two years ago, and my resting heart rate is down to below 40.
  9. Eish, ek het die appelkar omgegooi! Got on the scale this morning, the three weeks of binge eating this holidays got my back to 97.5kg from 93.5kg!! Still a total net loss of 27.6kg since June 2017. Still 10.5kg down from the start of October 2018 when I started calorie counting. Today I'm getting back on the calorie counting horse and daily training! 2018 was a good year for me, I reached my weight goal, my 5000km cycling goal, and my 85 000m elevation gain goal. My goals for 2019: 6000km cycling 100 000m elevation gain 500km running Target weight = 80kg. Mini Targets: 90kg by 09 March (My sister's wedding) 85kg by 22 September (Karoo 2 Coast) 80kg by 13 December (Start of holidays) I got a few PM's over the holidays from guys interested in how I was eating and training to drop 10kg in two months at the end of last year. I kept track of everything and will post it sommer here when I get time to summarize it all in one place. Good luck to everyone this year!!
  10. So who is starting the 2019 Weight loss challenge for us? I'm scared of getting on the scale on monday! Feels like I picked up 5kg over the last three weeks!!
  11. Haha, took me about 15min to get to the top on fatiqued legs.. when I'm back next December I'll make it my mission to do it sub 10min.. don't know how Gert Heyns can do it sub 7min. That's crazy!
  12. That descent from 7 Passes Road to Rondevlei you did today, I climbed it in the opposite direction a few days ago..hy het my gebreek!
  13. Sightseeing the 7 Passes Road today.. Will definitely be doing this route again!! Photo was taken on Homtini Pass. Got caught out by the sun a bit in the end. On my 5th beer and still sweating like a pig!
  14. Well done V8!! This years bragging rights is yours! Our paths seem quite similar.. I weighed in last week friday at 93.5kg, down from 125.1kg when I started cycling again in June 2017. I'm without a scale until 07 January, but I feel heavier already from all the food!! I've had a very active holiday so far, cycling 2-4 hours at least 5 times a week. 5km walks on the beach with the dogs daily. Kayaking 5-7km every other day. Even did a 6km trailrun event the other night(I'm not a runner!!). So I'm hoping that all the activities cancel out the increased calorie intake! Guess I'll find out on 7 January what the damage is....
  15. Samsung S9+, and a bit of Snapseed editing
  16. On my Bucketlist for December next year with MTB: https://www.strava.com/routes/16433141 Day 1: Paarl - Robertson Day 2: Robertson - Malgas Day 3: Malgas - Stilbaai Day 4: Stilbaai - Vleesbaai Depending on conditions and legs I might try and do Day 3 en 4 in one day.
  17. Oooooh, so that's where Alonso's going.. Aiming for the Cycling Triple Crown now I see.
  18. BikeAddict(Johann) just phoned to offer to refund the entire bike. I'm sorry that this had to play out in public, it was not my intention to bash any names. And thanks BikeAddict for coming to the table on this issue. I appreciate it.
  19. You are going to keep at it making me out as a liar? I'm telling you, there was no impact EVER, anywhere on this bike. Should I maybe do an analysis report of my Strava ride of exactly where it happened to prove to you that I'm an honest person? While you are mentioning prices. Why not mention the R60 000 Scott Spark RC900 Pro, the R3000 GPS, the R2000 sunglasses, the R2000 helmet, the endless list of kit, the tubeless conversions, the R4000 bike rack, the services, the thousands of rands of parts. None of it on credit, all cash transactions. My point is I'm a good paying customer, and there is no need for me to make up a lie or waste my time like this to score a free chainring of a few hundred rand. It has become a matter of principle.
  20. Just heard back from Durwan. They will put a 46 chainring from another bike in the shop on my bike in place of the 48T I had on. I'm going to miss the 48T, but I guess it's a compromise I'll have to make to get my bike back before the holidays. Otherwise waiting period to early February.
  21. Under load, yes. During upshift, no. I was literally just pulling away at traffic light.
  22. Falco you can call BS all you like, I really do have no reason to lie about this. The only external force the bike ever saw was me pedaling it. No bumps, no falls, no nothing. You can inspect the bike, there is no scratches or anything else on the bike for them to say it had external impact. Where would you even bump a chainring to look like that without flying over the handlebars? Omnico made that "assessment" from a few photos. Not actually inspecting the bike. And to be honest, I think he is right, it is probably not due to defect of workmanship or material, but rather due to assembly or setup. In other words, the shop that did the assembly/setup, and not Omnico's fault.
  23. Hi BikeAddict, Thanks for your reply. I was deliberately trying to avoid naming your store. As you can see, tempers tend to flare up on the hub as soon as a bikeshop name is mentioned. I was genuinely only posting here to get the advice/point of view of the fellow hubbers, and sort out the matter between us. The last thing I was aiming to do was "name and shame". But seeing that this is where we are now: 1) You claim to have been professionally communicating. Maybe that is true between you and Omnico and FSA, but not with me. Durwan has NOT forwarded any mails of Omnico to me. In fact, I have not received a single email or update from your side on this matter. You have had my bike since 27 November, and not once did you tell my or explain to me the process that was being followed. If I didn't send a whatsapp to Durwan yesterday, would I even have heard back from you yet? I'm going on holiday on Thursday, and I'm still without my bike. Does it really take 3 weeks for Omnico/FSA to inspect PHOTOS(not the actual bike) and make a decision? I can understand that it was Black Friday and you had to work through that backlog, but even that has been almost three weeks ago. The first mention of FSA also only came at 20:30 last night when Durwan whatsapped me, just before you made this post. He said that he is only going to start talking to FSA today. 2) The "initial cable rubbing on the blades" was most definitely NOT from cable stretching of a new bike. This is not the first, second, third or even fourth bike I've owned. Never was this type of rubbing a issue. I agree that cable stretching happens and you adjust it with the first service, but it happens over a few rides, not 3km in on your first ride and the horrific sound it made. From the start that was the issue. Cable stretching also doesn't explain the wobbly crank action when pedaling down with the right foot. 3) I cannot post pictures as you ask, because my bike is still with you. You have not seen this bad damage from "front derailleur rubbing yet"? Maybe front derailleur rubbing was not the actual issue then, maybe the crank isn't running straight and true? Maybe that's the wobbly action I informed you of. Seems like you keep trying to find a downstream solution to a upstream problem when I kept bringing it back. 4) You never said you were walking away, I said, I was thinking of walking away. But sure doesn't sound like your willing to come to the table. Offering me a new chainring at normal price. Then me asking if you are willing to reconsider in the light of me being a loyal customer spending a small fortune at your store the last few months. Then you offer a ring at cost price. That's not coming to the table in my opinion. Somebody has to pay for the chainring, and it's not going to be me. I have always been more than happy to pay for parts when I know it's my fault etc. I have spend thousands on parts at your shop. I won't be making a fuss about a simple chainring if I knew for a fact that I didn't misuse it. It is simply just not right to pedal a bike that is 300km old and a chainring folds in under you. Now it sounds that you are trying to make me out as a liar with all this back and forth with Omnico and FSA? You can ask Durwan, he knows me from Kroff Cycle days. I look after my bikes. I could honestly not be to bothered about a few hundred rands for a new chainring, but the way you are handling this situation has been eye opening and is now a matter of principle to me. What if this was my shock of R15k giving problems? From the sound of it, I'm not having my bike back before I leave on holiday Thursday?
