  1. Ja no, I'm not leaving my own sisters wedding at 21:00. Is food even served by then at weddings these days? There will always be more CTCTours, but she's only getting married once(hopefully). Unfortuneatly the wedding gets priority over the cycle tour this year.
  2. Will the routes stay the same this year?
  3. I hate running. Doesn't work well with my joints. But I decided this year to add 10km running per week to my training to improve fitness on the bike and to lose more weight. Early days but let's see how it goes and if it helps.. Still regularly hitting PR's on the MTB, so I think it's helping. On a different note, I had to go for a medical yesterday for my life insurance. The previous one I had was two years and 32kg heavier ago. Then my blood pressure was 150/85, HR 72, Cholesterol 5.50, and Diabetes 5.9% hba1c. Yesterday my blood pressure was 130/70, HR 42, Cholesterol 3.0, and Diabetes 4.0% hba1c. The nurse was quite impressed and said it can't get much better than that! I think I literally added 20 years to my life already by losing that weight and gaining some fitness. Still about 15kg to go though... and then maintaining it there.
  4. Please share your knowledge Bomberman? I have a 2012 Fortuner and 2012 Hilux. I knew they were easy targets, but not that easy?!
  5. I must say I had one of my better weekends so far. Spent just under 13 hours on the bike since Friday evening, 140km and 3500m climbing on 90% single tracks, so I worked my butt off in the saddle! And no big cheat meals. Usually I'll eat everything in sight after rides like this weekend. But I just had a braaibroodjie on Saturday which I would normally skip when Calorie Counting, and a bowl of popcorn yesterday. Hoping to clock in under 93kg on Friday from 97.5kg at the start of the year.
  6. Joined! Not seeing my name, guess it still has to update? I'm aiming for 100 000 meters climbing this year.
  7. There, fixed it for you, I think! Dropping 2.3kg in two days?
  8. Yuup, just keep at it! You know how it goes..the following week you drop sommer 2kgs! The in-laws have been gone for just four days and I've managed to start dropping again. Now on 93.9kg from 97.5kg since 07 January. Still have about 150km and 3500m of climbing, mostly single tracks, planned from tomorrow till Sunday..that's some proper exercise over the weekend..just have to keep on my eating plan, then I'll drop a bit more by the end of the week.
  9. When will solar powered drones become a commercial thing? I think that will solve the battery life issue somewhat.
  10. That means almost 5kg in just 3 weeks?! Well done!!
  11. Did this Lily drone ever make it to market? Would be awesome if they asked one member of a team to use a follow drone like this. Guess the limitations are the 20min battery life and live broadcasting from a drone.
  12. Then forget the slime tubes! Just go tubeless straight away. I like Robert's advice. It's a 15min job that took me an hour the first time. Nice skill to have because you're not going to just do it once or twice if you keep on cycling for years.
  13. I have two mates that started riding last week and they had exactly the same question. Against my advice they decided to postpone getting tubeless conversions because they have already spent so much just getting all the necessities to get started. On their first ride, still on the 2km tar stretch before we get to the mountain..first flat. Lucky for him his bike came standard with slime tubes without him even knowing. They worked quite well for sorting out a little thorn. So if you say you're not going to do to extreme riding at first, consider the slime tubes.. Cheaper alternative to going tubeless. But slime tubes aren't going to save you if you hit something worse than a thorn. In a month or two when you realize you are going to keep on riding and get more serious, then go tubeless for sure.
  14. If the Merida is well looked after, definitely the Merida.
  15. Like Mayhem said.. Weigh in is on the 1st of every month.
  16. So, the in-laws are now gone. Still on 95kg this morning..Glad that I at least managed to keep it constant last week with them still here. From today back on my usual eating plan and daily training. Hoping to drop around 1kg per week..
  17. Even those with no sugar is very high in calories. 5 table spoons = 800 calories. I agree, peanut butter is good for you and is a great source of protein, but not great if your goal is losing weight and you want to take a few spoonfuls after dinner..like stated earlier, just a knife point.. I can't control myself, so I have none.
  18. Yiip! Peanut butter is really dangerous for me! I love it, that's why I stay away from it. I can easily sit and eat it scoop for scoop while watching series. Say one tablespoon scoop is 25g. Then 5 scoops is around 800 calories. That is already more than halve of my target daily intake on my current eating plan.. So I rather just stay away completely. Once in a while I'd buy those small pouches peanut butter..Then I know I can't over indulge. If it's not in the house, it's not a problem, and that's my rule with all snacks..just keep the lekker stuff out of the house, then no problem! If it's there, I'll eat it.
  19. I'm struggling to get going this year! My in-laws came to visit us straight after the holidays..and they're staying until this weekend. They are eating snacks and biscuits and sweets all the time..wanting to braai or eat out most of the time. I've been training hard, but it's really difficult to keep on my eating plan with them still here, but I'm trying my best! Down to 95kg from 97.5kg (From 125.1kg in June 2017), but I really feel I could've been down a bit more already. First mini target of 90kg is only 7 weeks away..
  20. Hi Mufasa..did you ever do the upgrade? Sounds like you have the same setup as I had. 1x11 XT 11-46T and a 30T on the front.(Came standard on my Scott Spark RC 900 Pro) Nice to have that 46T granny for climbing, but I had a problem spinning out at around 35kmh. I replaced it with the 11-50T Sunrace cassette, a new chain, and a 34T XT ring on the front. That took my gear ratios from 0.65-2.73 to 0.68-3.09. So I sacrificed a little bit of the granny gear(you barely notice it) and gained a lot of top speed on the other side! I rarely spin out now. I agree with the other guys, the shifting is not perfect, just a bit slower than the standard XT setup, but not a problem..It's been a month and I'm already used to it. I didn't change derailleurs or cages or any of that.
  21. That sounds like a nice going down fun, fast and loose combo to me! I'm more into XC.. I have a 2.2 Ikon at the back to keep down rolling resistance, and an Ardent 2.4 on the front..that thing sticks to whatever I throw at it going down! Think you'll have fun with that on the back and the 2.5 DHF up front! I used to ride Rocket Rons and Nobby Nics, but for some reason I ended up with snake bites and sidewall cuts with them all the time. 4000km in on this set of Maxxis and haven't had any issues or punctures yet. I'd say go for it! Sounds like a lekker combo.
  22. Some of it yes.. The Loop of Doom is now dead. I guess that will give Matt Macduff sleepless nights knowing he will now never have the chance to go back and conquer it after his failed attempt.
  23. Rob posted this last night on the Garden Route Trail Park facebook page: "After further consideration we have had to take the decision to close the coffee shop and the pumptrack. The coffee machine will be moving down to the Shell Garage in Sedgefield . All accommodation at the park will also remain closed. The future of the park as a whole is currently being considered, decisions in this regard will be communicated once things have been finalized. Thanks for all the well wishes and support so far." I really feel sad about this. He also commented that donations aren't an option at this time. Is there anything we as a cycling community can do to help these guys? GRTP is by far the best trails I've ever ridden, it would be a real shame if this place can't survive!
  24. Also down a bit today.. rewarded myself with Rocco Mamas and A LOT of red wine tonight.. at least got some solid kilos on the bike today.
  25. Johan, have you tried going on the Strava app on your phone, Settings, Link Other Services, Connect a device to Strava..Then go to Wahoo..disconnecting it, and reconnecting it as you did in the beginning?
