  1. I hear you. It leaves me cold. Was he trying to provide for hungry mouths back home? Unsure. I genuinely dont think so, but cannot be sure… Live by the sword/die by the sword. Probably not his 1st robbery. Could be his tenth? I have some empathy. And then, I feel he got his ‘just desserts’. Climbing a mountain, to then (violently) rob people. Idiot.
  2. …its just Cape Town WAS NEVER CLOSED for business! We were ALWAYS open, AND enjoying life… (..and yes, i have worked in fast-paced Jozi for a GOOD few years: more chance of a CAPE phone getting answered on a Friday afternoon than the Jozi crowd…!)
  3. received, no reply from that number, but I left a detailed message. tx.
  4. i have requested the fund details - when received, will post here.... Cheers Chris
  5. …would like to contribute, to that fund, if anyone has a link? Makes me very angry - not simply the stealing of someones bike, but the violence that goes along with it - shocking. Chris
  6. As a 3-time Epic finisher, i feel i MUST explain to our esteemed overseas rider what a, er… ‘Bossie’ is…🤣…. A ‘Bossie’ is a Bush-Poo. The End.
  7. …the batterys GENERALLY last, and last well, mine is 6+ years old (the battery), still going strong; your apprehension is SOMEWHAT misplaced…
  8. …a very informative thread for future planning, made for good reading - thanks…
  9. Whew, some brilliant wordplay here!
  10. Unsure who Gail is? Just be aware, it can also blow a G-A-L-E out that way, in the afternoon…
  11. https://forum.bikehub.co.za/profile/39501-buffsvintagebikes/ @Buffsvintagebikes Brett - do you know of anyone?
  12. …just for clarity: the ‘SA’ in the picture … ‘ SA Champion Cyclist…’ relates to South Australia, and NOT South Africa… Chris
  13. …am VERY happy to hear there is some progress, even if it is just a proper WARNING, …I try not to judge people by the car they drive (try!), but Hummer + close-pass manouever + then standing with rock in hand (and possibly some ‘Roid Rage - as opposed to Road Rage), someone needs to have a serious chat with this twat. Well done Chris
  14. Here in Hout Bay, I have seen some of the stongest SUSTAINED wind i have seen in over 20 years: the wind was vicious! As predicted, it dropped earlier this morning, and at my place, is no more than the LIGHTEST of breezes, but we had 3 BIG days of wind…
  15. …I think you mean a JeanP-A-N-T…?
  16. Some nasty aggregate/building stone spill approaching top of Suikerbossie, from Llandudno side? Will report that in, since it could ‘force’ cyclists accross into traffic, making ‘keeping left’ difficult. Will take a look on my way into work. Cheers Chris
  17. Interesting; I LIVE in HB, and never had a problem riding past I.Y. (township), but heard of ONE incident on a day a car had its window smashed, too. Though most rides I do are over Chappies, else S’Bossie. Because a Red Ant bakkie (anti-land-invasion) is parked there literally 24-7, it sure seems like that was an isolated incident. Whereas I personally know of a few bikejackings on the (side) road past Ocean View. Good to know all this feedback Chris
  18. On your around Cape Point ride, there is ONE r-e-a-l notable ‘hotspot’ to avoid: When passing Misty Cliffs, direction Kommetjie (at 4-way-stop, contine straight on…) or Ocean View (meaning turning right at 4-way-stop), DO NOT turn right over the short hill, and on past the SIDE of Ocean View - a repeated crime hotspot for bike theft and or cellphone theft; SAFE option is straight over 4-way stop, through little suburb of KOMMETJIE, and THEN on towards Sun Valley. Very real chance of bike theft on this short stretch, rather avoid… Enjoy Chris
  19. A quick ‘back of cigarette box calculation’ shows Jewbacca is 36% (1/3rd+) of the way to raising the R20k needed for his Munga entry -nice!
  20. …someone say….aquaduct?
  21. 2 RECENT examples: 1. 10 days ago, I dislocated my shoulder going OTB on Snake Eyes/Tokai; 2 mates helped call the med-evacuate Bakkie (donation made); point is, only 1 rider had med-evacuate Bakkie s number in his phone, so us 2 LEARNED from this, in case we need help OR need to help…what the number was! 2. Returning from Makro Milnerton today, motorcyclist down in burst water mains puddle in Montagu Gardens; could not stop due to traffic, so took a longish detour, assisted him, bandaged his arm and leg, for him to THEN tell me he bought a top box for his new KTM from us on Sat morning past - small world - what goes around; comes around!

…and I will ‘see’ your donation; please send LINKY…💶
  23. INNER bar-ends for the W-I-N…
  24. Had the REVERSE done, which meant they HAD to cut, since they obviously had to insert Lycra, but I agree with Michael; a reversible ‘pleat’ sounds clever for your requirements. Cheers Chris
