  1. I see the entries page does indeed make provision for elite women. Extremely excited for this! It's time for some good crit racing here.
  2. I think best for me is Midrand through Woodmead, Western Service Road, possibly Rivonia/Oxford then across the M1 to Waverly/Higlands North up to Club Street and through to Bedfrodview. You could even add Sylvia's if you wanted to. I will need to do some test runs of potential routes over the weekends and do some plotting on Open Runner. I'm open to suggestions based on experience, and hope to potentially find some other people, even if you are just riding a portion of the route.
  3. Hi All, Looking for a group/bus to ride from Midrand area to Bedfordview for arrival by 7.30/7.45 and return leaving around 4.15. Any takers?
  4. Except you need to have medalled at World level in the keiren to be invited to the keiren school....
  5. You should give Casper a call 083 508 6490, he runs a service called Chain Wizard Mobile Services. He is based in Midrand but will come to you to do the services. He has a number of years of experience on a professional team in Europe, so you couldn't ask for a better, more professional service.
  6. I am in the Midrand area and really looking for a group that I can join on either the road or MTB early on weekday mornings. I am happy to drive to meet up with people, say in Lonehill or surrounds? I am sure there are plenty of us looking for partners to ride with! Looking forward to hear where everyone is riding.
  7. My sister is very adventurous with her Paleo/LCHF cooking. She recently visited us and made sweet potato chips (just slivers of sweet potato) that she "deep fried" in coconut oil(only in about 2cm of the oil in a frying pan, you cant make more than one layer at a time or they go soggy) Super delicious. I guess you must just measure your sweet potato carefully to not exceed your daily carb intake. Other than that, its a wonderful snack. She sprinkled them with Robertsons Salt and Vinegar sprinkle.
  8. I think that you should call Chain Wizard. He has a fully mobile setup and comes to you at your home or office or does collect and deliver (so you could watch him work, if you really wanted to) and he will never go ahead with any work without your go-ahead. He has a good few years experience as mechanic on a professional team in Europe, so you couldn't ask for better quality workmanship. He absolutely dislikes having his work returned, so it is either 100% or, in the very unlikely event that there is a problem he returns to fix it, free of charge. He is on twitter @chainwizard Casper 083 508 6490
  9. Shew, shame guy having your tonsils out in your 20's is painful... For me, the anaesthetic was the biggest lingering nuisance once I was back on my bike. It takes about a week to recover per hour that you are sedated (from what I was taught and have experienced). I have a pretty good pain threshold and I laughed at the doctor when he told me I would be sore for 10 days. I was SORE for 10 days. I don't take pain killers, but boy was I glad for them after that experience. And the painkillers will obviously also affect how you feel on the bike. Keep your chin up, give it another few days and I am sure you will be back at the sharp end soon.
  10. I really enjoyed the race from a scenery perspective. I would have enjoyed it more had I not been worrying about the damage the mud was causing to my bike. I would also have loved to actually have some USN at the "USN" water tables. If I think back to the heat and distance of Crater Cruise, there was no shortage at all. Surely they know the requirements of an event and then cater for it? The day was summed up by the guy riding next to me saying "Die gaan groot skade maak" which it indeed did. LOTS of people will be having a complete strip of their MTB's this week. (And here I am going to shamelessly punt the best mechanic in the universe who comes to service your bike at your home or office. You should really call Casper to help your bike recover from it's traumas at Dullstroom. 083 508 6490. You wont regret it )
  11. USN is selling this in capsules, saw some at Dischem. I have also read about it, let us know if it works :-)

    Linden Cycles

Jonene and Linden Cycles assisted me when I was still a full-time student and selected to represent South Africa for a Track World Cup. I went in to ask for assistance with purchasing discounted equipment for my ailing road bike when Jonene disappeared into the back for some time and came out with a brand new Raleigh with racing wheels and proceeded to have me set up on the bike! Even though my participation in the World Cup didn't materialise (thanks CSA) Linden's assistance motivated me hugely and helped me on to some consistent enough results on the road that I was able to move onto a road team for two seasons. I will always appreciate what Linden Cycles has done to help me, and I am grateful to finally be in a position to start "paying it forward".
  13. Hi, I don't think so. I have sold it to a happy buyer, this frame looks really big though and the wheels are different. Erm. Sorry didn't read to the end of the thread. Very glad the owner has been reunited with the bike!
  14. I have also not been able to enter, have been trying since Friday. Conveniently their contact email returns to sender and they don't answer their telephones. Really hope they make provision for us to enter.
  15. I recall riding past a water bottling company on the left on one of the district roads at Van Gaalens race. I don't remember which company it was, but they would have made themselves look good if they had got into the spirit of the day and set up a water point outside the entrance. I suppose we don't all think the same way though...
  16. I agree that the riders should rather be given an opportunity to race Grand Prix and other events internationally, and not have their first international experience at World Champs. I read that the women's keiren was the first keiren that either of these girls had raced! Not only is that unfair on them and WRONG, it's also DANGEROUS!
  17. Hi Hubbers Anybody know how to get in touch with AB 1? He doesnt respond to his PMs, and of the two phone numbers i have for him the one is incorrect and the other on voicemail. Really appreciate your help.
  18. Motorex makes a helmet spray, designed for motorbike helmets but my boyfriend used it when he did the Epic and it works very effectively. Otherwise just put your helmet at your feet when you shower and all the shampoo suds get the helmet clean and smelling peachy! SOaking straight after does work wonders. With Assos bibs in particular, I was advised to at least rinse the bibs immediately, otherwise they go threadbare in the back because the sweat breaks down the fibres apparently (happened to 3 pairs of ours despite following all the other washing instructions, I didscovered this only subsequently)
  19. I sincerely hope the comment about gear cables not stretching was made tongue in cheek... Anyway, you should rather call a company called Chain Wizard, they come to you to do bike maintenance on your premises. Give Casper a call 083 508 6490 he really does give tip top service, and saves you having to traipse around to bike shops and deal with their shoddy service.
  20. Firstly, very glad that you are ok. Secondly, at the risk of sounding insensitive, that was hilarious! You do write brilliantly and descriptively. There will be little to beat that story. I had projectile tears coming out of my eyes. I had to read it twice only because I think I missed half of it I laughed so hard. I sincerely hope that they caught them all again though!
  21. Try Chain Wizard, a mobile tech service that comes to service your bike on your premises. Top class workmanship, you are unlikely to find a better mechanic. Contact Casper 0835086490
  22. Good luck if you contact them. They sent me the (VERY) wrong thing, and have ignored countless emails to every address I can find for them. I'll NEVER buy anything from them again
  23. Why don't you go and race then Hippo?
  24. Contact Buksie (thats his username on the hub) he's an experienced mechanic for one of the bigger mens professional teams. His prices are very reasonable, his work is faultless and he guarantees his work. He's based in Randburg and will work over much of the greater JHB area
  25. Hi, Its 1-3 October in Cape Town in Bellville at last check. Normally www.cyclingchamps.co.za has all of the info for all of the champs through the year. See you there then
