  1. Reading through all the "I sweat alot" posts and it reminded me of a ride I did years back.

Massive bunch pushing through this village and we hit a cliimb, this big dude in front of me was wearing a buff but folded in the way that "Len Blue underpants" wore his. The little flap at the back was drenched in sweat and it kept flicking up on riders behind him...

Arrgghhh just thinking about it makes me nauseous...🤮

  2. I can recommend the Oakley Jawbreakers and Sutro's...

If you need bigger than that, I'd recommend a 1979 VW Bettle's windshield 🙂

The Oakleys especially the Sutro's were designed for you NOT to see any of the frame, I was sceptical at first but after a few rides I can fully recommend them. I do feel a bit like a wanna be douche bag but then I notice alot of other wanna be douche bags so the feeling then subsides.

You want to know why the next generation of drivers are going to be the worst. Stand on the street outside a school at pickup/drop off time and you will see. Just impatient, uncourteous and driving left right and center. That is all they see and know from a young age.

Same goes from the lesser privileged. You cannot blame someone for bad driving, when the only driving they have seen first hand for their life is that of a taxi driver. It is not their fault, or their parents, that is just inequality in society and they rarely have a choice. If they manage to beat the odds and get to a position of wealth where they can drive a car or own a car. They never had the luxury of being taught the correct manners to drive a car with. There is a lot missing in K53

Add the folks who aren't getting their licenses becuase "Uber and Bolt" is more convenient. They actually have no idea that said Uber driver is thick as f*&ck and doesn't actually know what the hell they up to most of the time.

A few weeks back I was doing the school run and there's an area where you can safely do a U turn and go back to the main road. Some lazy parent's choose to park there (blocking a secondary rd, but they don't care they save 30 seconds of walking and a few mm's on there shoes) anyway I digress. So I did my U turn and someone blocked the area, basically parked in the street. As I did the U turn, I rolled right up next to her (revved a bit harder than I should have to make her aware) and backed up. She opens her window and shouts let me move. I replied and said no need, you've chosen to park in the street blocking the road, all the parking bays are empty. She again says let me move and I ask her for what? You've chosen to park here illegally so just stay there. While she was talking I pulled up my window and drove off. I then started chatting to my daughters, saying how her children will think that it's ok to disregard law and order....

My eldest then replied saying that that womens daughter is a problem in the class, teachers are always having to talk to her. A few have said here that they will always try and do the right thing for the benefit of their kids and I stand by those rules. I've also enourageed my daughters to stand up and point out wrong doings. It's an uphill battle but lets have faith that law and order will prevail.

  4. Last week Sunday I tagged along with some riders from Rondebosch Common cause I didn't want to to Lower Main into Town on my own. We bomb through Lower main and turn right to go past the Old Castle Brewery and then to turn left onto the N1 and I know that's a hotspot....

Don't I see some cyclist parked off just above those shacks checking his phone obviously waiting for his friends. I want to live in his world!

TOTEM is the Makro bike.  This was Maritz's first 20" bike..... was not going spend money until we knew he was actually going to cycle .... I took it home and stripped it down.  Greased and assembled it properly.  The bike is still in very good nick.

TITAN is in a different price class, and a VERY good bike.

True story, I'm on the look out for two Titan 24"

My girls have ridden their Totems for more than two years now and really do enjoy cycling so they deserve an upgrade.

  6. Good luck, expect the unexpected.

Don't judge a book by it's cover (so you see a taxi and imagine it pulling off something stupid) but then you see an Aunty in a Nissan X Trail with a bike rack and Mom's Taxi sign and imagine all's well in the kingdom? Don't trust anyone on the road!!

Other than that enjoy the kilometers, enjoy the early morning rides, enjoy the feeling of being broken when you get home but be glad you did it.

If someone pulls a k*k move on you, just let it be (something I'm trying hard to do on a daily basis) don't go on a rant, it's not worth it.

I wouldn't hang my bike by the frame using those mounts...

Makro has something very similar, the wife and my road bike is currently hanging on it.

I might go with a Wille Hond style mount when we finish with the reno on the garage.

Just some personal advise here, just make sure and triple sure that you check where electric wires are on the wall you are trying to mount the bracket.

Don't pull a Matu and think, "wow this mount bracket and the bike would look really awesome next to this wall light" and drill 3 holes until you see sparks and the house going dark

    Just my 2 c

I mounted a TV on the wall (or was supposed to mount the TV on the wall) I notice the wall plug and avoid that at all costs, what I didn't see was the water pipe for the aircon in the wall.

Boardroom carpet and table moer toe!

    Not my finest DIY tale.

I used my twitter account purely to follow my motorsport interests. Its a great tool to get the inside scoop before websites do. Yes.

Had a decent amount if followers and followed everyone that mattered in that world. I used to make a point of blocking anything, anyone and everything that twitters algorithm decided i needed to see because im south african. It’s hard work keeping your feed clean.

But theres a whole world out there colloquially referred to as ‘black twitter’. And i just couldnt anymore. I made the call with the Knysna fires back then and the absolute racist vitriol that was being spewed around from both sides popping up in my 100% motorsports orientated twitter feed. Theres a reason fools like trump preferred that platform. Its where the trolls hang out imo lol.

I've encountered Black Twitter and I remember the Knysna fires racial shitstorm that erupted.

My curios nature does lead me down that rabbit hole from time to time and I admit to scrolling through some of that ***. It's very sad that some folks feel that way but it's also good to know.

I can understand why you don't use it anymore.

laptops, newspapers, novels, eating cereal, I've seen plenty

I was on my scooter once and saw a guy scratch in a ladies under carriage as she pulled away from the traffic lights. It made me chuckle... how happy were they when they got to work!

That looks like twitter? So that already tells you what you need to know about most of its users. It’s by far the most toxic of the social media platforms…F knows why. Its a troll cave, where humanity went to die. Also why i stopped using it 3 years ago.

I just treat any piece of road as a deathrace I need to survive.  It doesn't matter how entitled you feel as a cyclist on a specific piece of road or cycle lane or whatever, what your perception is of certain type of car owners or whatever…even if you are right and following all the rules.

Fact is, if something happens between you and any kind of motorised transport, you WILL lose 99% of the time.

So for that reason  i treat every car/bike/bus/taxi/etc like a possible accident waiting to happen. These days i treat every pedestrian the same way.
Trust no one. Assume they are all blind, deaf, road ragey, assholes. It might seem negative or not nice having to always ride so defensive, but Imo you will be better off in the long run. It becomes second nature. And swear at them in your head. Shake your head, call him/her a ‘dutch cat’ in your head and move on.

Im pushing 40 now and have been riding bikes in the streets since I was 7. I rode 15km to school and back everyday since the early 90s. After that i rode to uni. In all that time I have been hit by cars twice…once on a sidewalk lol. It sucks.

It has been said on here countless times…’i’d rather be alive than right’

Dude I love twitter, I find it hilarious. You get some absolute **** nuts but I generally find the funny side of life on twitter.

I'm not super active on it and I probably only have about 7 followers and 2 of that is the same person cause the dork forgot his password to his account so had to setup a new one. If there's any social media I prefer it's twitter at the moment. FB can go "kruip" Insta is ok but Twitter is where it's at. I've found some people who share some funny **** on the blue bird....

Ja, I've been trying to BS myself too all week that I am "working" . . .

I saw so many people on my ride yesterday who were just staring down at their laps while driving it was shocking - to me, because I have not really been active on the tar for the last 12 months. I've been riding mainly trails, so I forget what people in cars are like.

Looking at Laptops in the car? WTF??
