  1. I'd do the TT if I had a TT bike, just going to do the road race, I recon its going to be tough though, Vets racing isnt easy, some good ex elites have dropped down to our category recently, couple that with the terrain and the fact that its a UCI qualifier and its going to be mental.
  2. See you there, I'll be in the 30-34 group, looked at the race profile, seems like its going to be a tough ride with a good amount of climbing, not sure how much exactly but would guess over 1000m.

  4. I havent seen much hype around this event on thehub which surprises me given the fact that its a qualifying event the 2012 UCI World Cycling Tour Final (Vets World Champs basically) first 25% of each race automatically qualify. Who's doing it and whats the general feeling around the event? Entries close tomorrow (21/10/2011) Event website is here: http://www.msunduziroadchallenge.co.za
  5. I also dont get it, the "short ride" is like 17km or something shorter and goes over the same "big" climb. Because they're both seeding events and because no Elites race the "short" ride, seeding are generally very good on the short ride so if someone is looking to up their seeding for Argus and 94.7 this is the one to do, I recon that at some point, you'll have more entrants in the short ride than the long ride.
  6.
  7. Agree 100% if the items are not in stock they should indicate that the product has a lead-time at which point you could contact them and find out what the lead-time is before paying, simple website upgrade if this feature isn't supported. I run a large on-line store (one of our business portals, not our core business focus) and we indicate if the item is in stock or not, always blows my mind how we still get clients placing orders for items that are clearly marked "*** Currently out of stock *** and then paying us for the order, just creates an admin overhead that could be avoided.

    Tyres

Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp, go up to 12 bar, train on them and haven't had a single puncture this year, not badly priced either. Worst tyre.... Schwalbe Ultremo, soft and got tons of punctures with them.
  9. Cool Thanks, probably should have searched thehub before posting, was gonna send you a PM to ask anyway
  10. Anyone riding these? what are they like, dont really know the brand but they seem pretty cool and pricing is pretty good too. Looking for new MTB shoes in that sort of price range, what other brands could I look at? Here's a like to them on CWC
  11. Mike at Mean Machine in Germiston has some Mavic Open 4CD rims, brand new. PM me if you need the details.
  12. I can never understand why companies handle mistakes like this in that manner, regardless of who's mistake it was they could rectify it and supply you the correct image and it wouldnt cost them a cent (its an image in a database), in-fact had they done this you probably would have posted a positive post about them instead of a negative post and they would have received some free advertising out of it. It reminds me of the Dave Carroll / United Airlines saga, see below. A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar ($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar. During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for YouTube exposing their lack of cooperation. The Manager responded, "Good luck with that one, pal". So he posted a retaliatory video on YouTube. The video has since received over 10 million hits! United Airlines has contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was, "Good luck with that one, pal". Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has lead to a sharp increase in orders. Here's the video...
  13. punctured with 2km to go stopped 3 times and eventually rode to the finish on a flat wheel, not nice seeing 40 riders catch and pass you at that point. The reserve was killer!!
  14. And what happens if the rand is at 6.50 to the USD in 3 months time? I think you're describing forward cover here in which case you'd be obliged to take the currency at that rate, you can get out of it but not without paying a penalty, this is because the bank has to purchase the USD's to guarantee the rate so they need to recover their costs.
  15. Really enjoying this post, makes for a nice change on some of the really stupid posts I've seen on thehub of late (Gay post takes the cake hands down IMO) Touristvisa, your comments are bang on the money and the reason for the rapid weakening is because we're classified as an emerging market and investors are looking for lower risk investments, local politics have nothing to do with the weakening, not yet at least, looking for someone to blame, Greece is your guy. If you're an importer (as I am) or looking to purchase anything in USD the trickiest question will be do you wait for the ZAR to gain some ground, or do you buy before it slides even more (and risk having uncompetitive prices)? unfortunately, I think at this point, people would only be able to speculate and its nothing more than a gamble.
  16. Here's the same one my mate got yesterday trying to sell his bike on thehub: Hello, Thanks for the information. I am at sea at the moment because I work as a Marine Engineer but I still have my family house in South Africa where I lived for many years before relocating to the United States of America to join my husband, and accordingly, I will be pleased to make the payment in the United States dollars equivalent which is easily convertible to South African Rands. I need four and will however be paying you by PayPal and insist on this payment medium because I don't have access to my bank account online as I don't have Internet banking. But I can pay from my PayPal account because my bank account is fully linked and attached to it, and besides, the payment system is perfectly secured for both of us. I will therefore need you to give me your PayPal email address and your acceptable exchange rate of South African Rands to United States Dollars so that I can make the payment as soon as possible. In case you don’t have PayPal account, you can easily set one up within a minute at any branch of First National Bank in South Africa or go to www.PayPal.com . Should you also wish to have more information about PayPal which is now widely used for payments in South Africa, the First National Bank in South Africa would be glad to help, you could also obtain first hand information from FNB website on thins link https://www.fnb.co.za/news/archive/2010/20100325paypal.html Please don’t worry about the PayPal charges because it is my responsibility to add it to your price so that you can have your complete money. I need only your PayPal email address to make the payment, and nothing else. There is already a shipping agent for the bike to ship it to our family house in South Africa after you have satisfactorily received your payment. The shipping fee will however will be included in my payment to you according to PayPal requirements and it will be their ultimate responsibility to ensure the successful shipment of the bike . Please let me know any other relevant conditions about the bike and the total amount of your price in United States Dollars equivalent. The bike is a surprise birthday gift for my late uncles sons forthcoming birthday during which every members of the family will be celebrating with him. Therefore, I will be pleased to make your payment immediately so that you can thereafter release the car to the shipping agent as soon as you have your money in your bank account through PayPal. I will be pleased if you could still send me some few more pictures of the bike for my personal viewing. Thanks a lot. MRS PATRICIA STEWART
  17. What if it were an offer to get a product that you were really interested in at 50% off? I dont think its the end of the world, there was an opt out option, the mail was sent with good intentions and Hubbers stood to gain, dont think thehub needs to get roasted for that. Sure if we're getting 50 emails a day then I'd agree and would also get irritated but it was one email and the first sent from the site. I think its great that thehub is approaching (or being approached by) organisations that are willing to offer hub members a discount just for being a member. What the site is doing in terms of the ECA is perfectly legal, they need to have an opt out option that's it, now if they continue to send you commercial based emails after you've opted out, then they're contravening the ECA and then you can get your panties in a twist. I get tons of emails like this and its not ideal I'll be honest but its a part of the communication age we live in, the only time I get annoyed is if I've opted out and continue to receive emails from that specific organisation. Hats off to the site admin for not shying away from this topic and actually apologising, we all make mistakes, its how we handle them that count.
  18. Yeah, be careful with these kits, while the quality isnt too bad, the sizes are asian sizes so a fair bit smaller and the "replicas" arent exact copies in most cases so riding down the road, the guys around you will know you're wearing the fake stuff
  19. What did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?
  20. Where do you stay? we have a group that leaves the Greenstone Hill area most morning, leave between 4:05am and 4:30 am and then meet up with some guys up the road, we usually go out towards East Rand Mall and try mix the training up a bit with intervals on Linksfield and in Bedfordview near St Benedicts, hill training out by Silvia's pass etc... Send me a PM if you want more info. I'm sure the Bedford guys will be back on the road soon though but they havent been there lately in the week. We communicate via a Whatsapp group and let everyone know whats happening the day before.
  21. hehe
  22. Nevermind, they added me to the list and sent me the latest ride info faster than I thought, so here it is. The track circuit is open for cycling this week from Monday to Thursday… Subject to weather condition. Time: 5pm – 7pm. Price: R10.00
  23. Eldron, have you got the latest info on the rides at Kyalami? I've requested to be added to the mailing list but not sure how long it takes to be added. Thanks Mate.
  24. I agree with your training method for the climbs but I find the opposite when I do lots of hill training, I lose a lot of my leg speed on the flats.
  25. I'm not a Specialized fan but that's pretty cool!
