  1. About 3 days too late: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/93705-powerbalance-busted/page__hl__powerbalance
  2. Absolutely agree with you its a free forum hence me pointing out that I don't particularly agree with all of your negative posts, I'm not going to get into a bickering contest with you, I've made my point take from it what you will.
  3. Whats up with all your negative posts all over thehub? You've not got a good thing to say about anything or anyone on thehub! Why not try a more constructive approach and actually try contribute in terms of idea's or problem areas with some sort of suggestions rather than just slate everyone? yes there are issues with CSA at present, we all agree but if your comments are not contributing in anyway, why even comment. Your remarks on this particular post are totally unrelated and of no particular substance! Why not take up golf instead of cycling and do us all a favor!
  4. Thats how I understand it but like I said I could be wrong, best would be to contact CSA, thats what we're going to do, we're putting a Cat 2 team together but have one or 2 riders who are just outside of the required seeding index.
  5. There are also some good Youtube videos for gluing tubbies I also had quite an interesting conversation with a guy from a leading bike distribution company today who recons he uses straight forward contact adhesive (i.e. what you'd buy from say builders) and does not use tubby cement (glue) says its the same thing but without the fancy branding and higher price tag.
  6. From what I understand (but I may be wrong) yes you need the full race license if you want to take part in events such as SA's but I also understand that if you want to race as part of a team in Cat 2 (and above) you need the full race license and in order to race / qualify in Cat 2 you need a seeding index of lower than 12. VA, VB etc... is a thing of the past and if I understand it correctly a guy like yourself (unless you're riding on a Cat 2 Team) will then go into the open category where you race against people with similar seeding indexes regardless of age etc...
  7. I completely agree with you, R/$ fluctuations cannot account for a 40% price difference, I'm not sure what item you're specifically referring to but could the price variance not have been as a result of CWC running a promo on that particular item when ASG weren't? I've seen some of the specials that ASG run and thought that they were pretty good and in a lost of cases they were the ones with the price difference being in their favor. Like I said, I'm on no particular side here, at the end of the day with current market conditions price plays a huge role but backup and after sales support is key and should be taken into account, if CWC is good with this then well done to CWC, if ASG isn't then they need to lift their game, point is its not only price and because ASG work through a reseller channel they're at risk that their reseller could drop the ball a bit and not offer fantastic after sales support which indirectly I guess reflects poorly on ASG but if this is the case lets take a more constructive stance as consumers.
  8. Firstly, I have no affiliation whatsoever to ASG but I think that some of the comments are grossly unfair towards them! The ASG business model is completely different to that of CWC, I'm in the distribution game myself and can closely relate to the points (such as R/$ fluctuations) that ASG have raised, you win some and you lose some and its unfair to brand them as being expensive because they may have landed product at an inflated price because of currency issues, the fact remains they're committed to all of their their brands and keep stock locally ALL THE TIME, although the CWC range is comprehensive, they dont always have items in stock, I've found on a few occasion when trying to order stock from them that its not available (out of stock), I'm not attacking CWC at all and am neither pro ASG but lets just be fair. The mere fact that ASG have 1.) attempted to defend themselves 2.) highlighted why their prices are sometimes out and 3.) attempted to redeem themselves shows their commitment to this industry in my opinion. Apart from them committing to holding stock locally they're also very involved in SA cycling in terms of sponsorships, so they're giving back to the industry as well, how many of the online retailers are matching this or even doing it at all? Just be fair guys, thats the only point I'm trying to raise, no one's perfect and when a distributor is trying to rectify a situation give them a chance to do so without being biased!
  9. Thanks Mampara, I think I emailed them last time I went down there asking about group rides and they never got back to me but I'll try again.
  10. I'm off to the South Coast on Thursday for a week or so and have heard that the guy that owns the Vodacom Shop in Shelly Centre is an ex pro and has group rides leaving from Shelly Centre most mornings, anyone know anything about this or who I can contact to get the details? I staying in Southbroom and it would be great if I could hook up with a group in the area. Looking to do about 100-140km per day so dont mind riding out to meet up with a group. If anyone has information on group rides out in that part of the world it would be great if you could give me the details. Cheers.
  11. Without an altimeter accuracy will be within 2-5 metres, depending on the signal you're getting to the satellites.
  12. You gotta love the hub
  13. I made the move from tubbies to clinchers and am going back to tubbies! Lighter, lower rolling resistance, rubber compound is generally better than clincher equivalent. Use slime and if you do puncture you'll probably be back on the road quicker than if you had Clinchers, for me, if I'm racing without a backup vehicle, I'm out of contention either way.
  14. Nice build but bar tape spoils it IMO, needs white tape and white hoods will look awesome then, or black tape with white hoods will also work.
  15. I think the fund raising initiatives that come out of this event are incredible and far over shadows the negativity surrounding the expo / event. Its one hell of a spectacle and we should be proud as South African's to have a race of this size on our doorstep, not even the yanks are bigger and better than this! Well done for starting a positive thread
  16. What evidence have you got? would need to be very conclusive for CSA to take action, should end up in a 2 year ban in my opinion.
  17. Dont let it get to you, they're cheating themselves no one else, at the end of the day when they're in a start group thats out of their depth, they're not going to be able to hold the bunch anyway.
  18. I thought what let the race down a little was the road surfaces on some parts of the course, I remember hurling down past zoo lake at 75kph with a bunch of tandems flying past us and bouncing across the uneven road surface, noticed a few bottles scattered across the road and I went through there early so can only imagine what it looked like later in the day, apart from that I think the race was very well organised and would consider it a safe ride. There were a couple of crashes in the Vets but I think this was because of a full double lane road going into a single lane turn at speed, just isnt space for everyone in circumstances like that.

    ActionPhoto

You can have the high resolution images emailed to you, I did that with the Dome2Dome pics. Its probably a good idea to inform the race organisers about these issues with the photo's as they're the ones that elect Action Photo as the official photographers, but I do agree with you guys, its unacceptable to have to settle for this service, their photo's aren't exactly cheap, the least they could do is offer superior service.
  20. Will never go back, its awesome
  21. The super sexy RED is worth the extra R5000 for its looks alone
  22. I agree 100% with you Shaun, the groups out at the cradle do tend to take up a lot of the road, I dont think it justifies someone throwing tacks down on the road or coming dangerously close to the cyclists but its a bit of a catch 22 situation there at the moment and its going to get out of control, going to the cops is probably not going to achieve much and if anything its going to fuel the fire. The general attitude from Motorists is pretty bad to say the least, I train at 4am during the week and dont look forward to my weekend rides anymore because I ride from about 5/6am for 3-4hours and the roads are quite busy, the motorists seem to have this attitude that the road belongs to them and we have no right to be there, inevitably you'll get a couple of idiots who then think they need to prove this point but speeding past you with only millimeters between the car and the rider. At the end of the day though, there's a certain responsibility as a cyclist I think to ensure we're also being fair to the other road users and if we dont do this the situation is never going to improve and thats where we need to start in my opinion.
  23. I've got a virtual IDT, have tried riding the tour stages, doing intervals, time trials, beating previous course times etc... I usually watch TV and to be honest I HATE the IDT, it sux big time, there's nothing I can do to make me wanna do it or enjoy it, it takes a lot for me to get onto it, I dont know how you guys do it. Takes a lot of self discipline I suppose.
  24. BRAVO
  25. Hey Hubbers, looking for some advise, recently bought a set of SRAM S80 wheels, complete with cassette tyres etc.... cost about R15K thing is they're a bit heavy for my liking and also deep as hell so not ideal for bunch riding in the wind. I was thinking of selling them but not sure what I could get for them, any ideas? They've done about 800km and are in mint condition, they look absolutely awesome (that probably why I bought them in the first place) and really make the bike look ubber cool but they're not practical. What I'd like to end up with, is keep my existing training wheels, get a pair of 50mm carbon tubby clinchers for the flat / fast races and a set of really light (Bontrager XXX Light or the likes) wheels for hilly courses.
