  1. Yes but you're then supposed to declare the purchase when you get to SA and pay the local VAT here, you could try get away with it though
  2. I only needed to wait another 400 minutes and it was mine
  3. Jeepers buddy, you'll have a heart attack at this rate, stop getting so worked up, its a public forum, let the peeps have their opinion!
  4. You'll probably not see a single car for the duration that you're in the reserve. Just make sure you ride in the right direction, the reserve has traffic flowing in one direction only, you'll get some angry cyclists yelling at you if you're going the wrong way
  5. Armstrong's claims were that he was the most tested athlete, Contador is saying this year, not of all time.
  6. Whats the web address for Maestro? www.maestro-uk.com?
  7. George is a legend and like you say, you'll need to be prepared to scratch around but it'll be worth the scratch. When I was there he had an old TVT frame which was my dream bike as a kid, has a broken rear stay but he's going to fix it for himself. He has some really great NOS rims in his shop with some nice old frames too.
  8. Try George at Mean Machine in Germiston, he has some retro bits laying around but knows what the stuff is worth so you'll pay a fair bit.
  9. Hey Guys Would be interested to hear what you think this bike is worth, I bought it off a fellow hubber who had "modernised" it, I've subsequently converted it back to old school and have spent a lot of time and fair bit of money on it, problem is its a little too small for me, size 56 and I need about a 57/58. Bike is in good to very good condition apart from a couple of nasty scratches on the top tube and rear stay which were inflicted whilst moving it (previous owner) I was not keen to get it resprayed because of the custom work on paint job. Bars, stem (3TTT) & headset (Shimano) are brand new (NOS) that I imported. Grouset is Campag. Bike is mid 90's and the Altain is pretty rare, it columbus tubing (I think its Columbus Brain tubing, just branded Altain for Colnago) My photo isnt very clear, but here's a link to a site I found with the same bike http://mauisvintage.blogspot.com/2010/04/90s-colnago-altain.html
  10. You'll find the Columbus ones on eBay but they're not cheap/
  11. Well its for an old colnago (90's) with Campag, so something that would go with that mix, either white or silver cages I guess. can you maybe send me some pics of what you have? Thanks.
  12. I'm looking for old school water bottle cages, can anyone point me in the right direction?
  13. I've got the BBB, no problems with it, CWC has it about the same price I think as Chain. Woops, posted too late... But if CWC doesnt have stock they'll get I'm sure, ask them.
  14. google: disk wheel decals. Also, check out this video
  15. Ok cool, maybe I just need to get used to it.
  16. What did you set tight that screw on the side of the pedal? How exactly do you adjust that? I tried playing with that setting and it didnt seem to make any difference.
  17. I installed a set of Time Titan Carbon ICLIC pedals, put the cleats on my shoes and went for a test ride, the float on the pedals is crazy! I dont mind a bit of sideways movement but yikes my foot svivels a massive amount from left to right, I'd be terrified to sprint with these things. Is it something that I need to get used to? are there other cleats or adjustment options to reduce this float?
  18. And here's the link to her post on thehub with additional information about the training programs.
  19. I've been meaning to post about this on thehub for some time now.... I'm part of a Vet's / Cat 2 team and we approached Maryke a few months ago for her to design training programs for our riders, although they’ve only been using the program for a short while the results have been impressive to say the least, we’ve had some of our riders enter Cat 1 races and they’ve managed to get some fantastic results, we’re off to Zimbabwe for a tour this weekend and I’m pretty sure the training will pay dividends there. Maryke has done her B.A. Honours in sports science and some of the programs she offers includes gym workouts, interval training, periodised systems (this is where she monitors an athlete for a season and assists them in peaking at the right times and for specific events) Regardless of your fitness / physical abilities, if you’re wanting to improve your cycling wihtout breaking the bank this is money well spent, trust me. If anyone needs any more info, her email address is maryke.verster87@gmail.com
  20. Had a business meeting with his cousin this morning and he told me the sad news, he apparently had a heart condition prior to R4S and obviously the strain was too much. Condolences to the family.
  21. You know those emails that you see being sent around about 200 million times a year about some poor kid who needs 100 million dollars for an opperation or she's going to die unless of course you forward this email onto everyone in your address book, or the one about how bill gates gives you USD10 per email address you forward an email to? well this is one of those! what the hell stops a cashier behind the counter from re printing these slips and then selling or giving these slips to the taxi driver? or as another hubber pointed out, just printing fake slips? if this is in-fact happening by us insisting on the slip will in no way curb the problem. And as for swiping the card twice at a toll road.... um wouldn't the toll company then get the cash and not the cashier? because surely that goes directly through their system? and I'd imagine the number of times the boom is opened is compared to whats in the kitty at the end of the day and they need to balance.
  22. Nope, like I said, biggest factor with sub 3 is the wind, if there's no wind this year you'll see sub 3's up to as high as D or even E group, well thats my opinion at least
  23. Well the fact that only the Elites did sub 3 last year should tell you something, even VA's who are basically the strongest group to leave after elites didnt do sub 3 which says a lot. I'm talking singles here only not tandems. Biggest factor IMO is the wind. But basically $ 2:39 VA 3:02 VB 3:04 A 3:03 B 3:10 C 3:11 D 3:16
  24. I've also noticed this, got back into cycling after a long lay off and the first thing I noticed was the poor service at the bike shops, its not a cheap sport it seems that unless you're spending R50K+ on a new bike they're doing you a favor, its a competitive industry and given the current economic conditions I battle to understand it. I've given up ordering stuff from the LBS, out of probably 10 times I was called back once and this is from at least 3 different LBS's. Its sad but this is why international on-line retailers like CRC are thriving.
