Well I asked PPA the question, they confirmed that the tour de PPA is a seeding event for this years race. So I’m holding them to that.

That sucks how your race ended, all and all it was a good coffee ride? I was in the same group, definitely part of the guilty few that enjoyed the coffee ride. I took a turn in front just before the R304 and R302 crossing but realized very quickly that the majority of the group was keen on a coffee ride so decided to rather keep something in the tank for the last 5km. I was shocked as well seeing a few E bikes in the group that dragged the group the last few kms

Yes that’s why I tried my luck, it’s become really expensive. For that price one could buy two crank based power meters to fit a road bike and a MTB. But I must say I’m keen to try the pedal based ones

Yeah I was in said F group as well, I managed to hold on until Bothmanskloof climb. At the foot of the climb I immediately realized I burned most of my matches and was dropped by the first of many groups yesterday. Humbling moment seeing that I wanted to move a group up😅.

I've been cycling with the first ascent stuff for more that 12 years and have always been happy. But I've never tested anything else. So is it a case of ignorance is bliss and would it be worth it to try something else?

I agree, I grew up cycling at Van Gaalens and moved to Stellenbosch. Be ready for some climbing, those Magaliesburg mountains are hills in comparison. As Thermophage said, through the gate go up Irish to 7 or 8 then down Armageddon. I do it on my hardtail as well, and you can roll over everything. You are tired at the bottom after all the shaking but well worth it. Then go across the valley, up bosluis and go down firhut. Firhut is fun and flows lekker. Yeah I currently have a 36 on but it's cause I use the bike for commuting as well. When I hit Jonkershoek I realize very quickly that the 36 is probably my peak😂

Shimano 12 speed, set and forget. Odd cable change but really such a simple setup. I’ve worked on some of my friends’ SRAM 12 speed stuff, you know cause I have 12 speed “experience “. What a frustrating process.
