  1. I'm pretty miserable at the moment. Was planning on doing my last recon ride this weekend before heading to Knysna for the Sept holidays. I need to ride the lower part of plumber and Iron Monkey. But behold, I have a cold! Happy trails guys, don't crash.
  2. Damn... I think I'm in love! 130/150 thing is beautiful.
  3. Darn.. I want some, they are nice quality, I have held it in my hands and a mate had one on his Tallboy. A bargain at that! The shops had them for R3500 a set.
  4. @Headshot: Do you need hubs? try these, https://www.isikosports.co.za/ECC-E-618-MTB-Boost-Hubsets-p91148782 These ECC hubs are nice, besides, they sound like CK/I9.. Would be interested If they sold directly to you, but Still, worth a shot.
  5. Ish, you might end up paying a clearance+handling fee on each parcel..hope I'm wrong.
  6. For sure, those are gold. Lets keep an eye on water levels in the week leading up to the race.
  7. Would fetching a bottle from the car between Plummer and Armageddon be considered outside assistance? Otherwise, just fill up at the water-station, just don't be last The is no way I'm carrying water for 5 hours on me for all that time.
  8. Tell me about it.. Kids, work etc.. No one is going to think I'm being funny when I pitch up at home with my arm in a sling.. I walked away from my crash there in June, bruised and some scabs but I've definitely stuffed my neck up. One only gets one body, and I'm only half way in this life. It definitely knocked my confidence a bit though. I never use to second guess stuff and would just go, trusting my skills and the trail. Now I second guess the bigger stuff which is k@k, and probably more dangerous. Even the doubles section on Zululand makes me second guess myself now. Before I'd just hit everything blind.
  9. I cant imagine the heat yesterday..We better pray, and leave black helmets home Not even to mention the Full face debate.. The answer is no people! Mmm.. I hope we take the last Contour and ride straight to the top of Iron Monkey. That last climb up to saaltjie is the worst ever! Do you hit those top Doubles on DH1 ? I haven't ridden them since that time with the side wind when I crashed my balls off over there The first wasn't so big but pretty long, then that big one. Pray for a cool day.
  10. Awe, en hul kom in small sizes. (for a friend) Kry jy die hierbo locally iewers? Prys?
  11. Nice If my wallet allowed it I'd probably have joined you for some of those. I am seriously contemplating getting some Airflex Pro kneepads though since my G-form puppies are well out of fashion by now.
  12. Eish, I'm a ballie now bru. No time for riding & posting! Nah not true in fact, Ive been on some Enduro related threads. Ya I know, another one bites the dust Its probably more temporary as my 1 our ride a week doesnt lend itself to endurance rides/races, so Im having some fun.
  13. Jonkershoek yesterday
  14. I overheat in the middle of Winter wearing mine! I usually take the chinbar off at the bottom hook it to my camelback and get moving. I guess It will be the order of the day then.
  15. While riding up to the trailhead in Jonkershoek last night, I was wondering. Do the rulebook for Enduro allow you to do the liaison/climb without a helmet? (I doubt it but what do the EWS pros do?) In other words I can take it off and hang it off my Bars while climbing? Or does one hang it around your neck like Rupert does while keeping the other half on. I have a Super R2, and its not to cumbersome to hang it around your neck, but when faced with a 50minute climb, I prefer not having anything distracting/irritating around my neck.
  16. Eish! I rode there again last night after work and saw what you mean. The winter sun never reaches some spots in that valley, long parts of Red Phoenix 1 looked pretty shiny. I was however quite happy with the DHR in front, which I did not dare push to hard at first but gained confidence as I went and managed to get a PR run down there half blinded by the setting sun. Was planning on hitting plumber with the main purpose of checking out the features on lower plumber, but the wind was so hectic that It made me take the exit at the 1st road crossing and go back up to hit Red Phoenix. Bit off topic, If I may share. I was pleasantly surprised by the difference a few small tweaks in bike setup made to a proper steep trail like Plumber. Riding a trail with confidence vs hesitation makes a massive difference. (I added soft volume spacers up front which makes it ride higher in the travel whilst keeping it supple(I'm a huge fan of this) Had the new DHR on front, and replaced rear brake pads so they worked well.) Last time I felt like a bit of passenger down Plumer 1, not being use to the steep loose surface. This time I immediately noticed how the DHR "takes command" of the front end and bike felt more planted and lets you focus on the trail giving me the confidence to let the bike go in turns and those drops into the turns. I was then able to perform most of my braking before turns then holding on letting the bike and suspension do its thing..which is easier said then done down there as one gains speed rapidly, but In ones mind one must just BOSS it.
  17. Sorry to hear about the crash. You ok? What happened? Nice bike. I'm going to try hit it tomorrow arvy around 3:30pm.

  19. https://www.trailforks.com/route/ewc-3-jonkershoek-full-enduro/ FYI - Last years ?
  20. Nice! I can vouch for these. https://www.rapide.co.za/product/alpina-straight-pull-double-butted-spokes/ Don't know if the double butted is a bit to lightweight for you.
  21. Ya, agree, I think they mean the A lines will be open more than the B lines will be closed. If the B lines are open on most DH races, I cant see how they can close them on Enduro days. There would be casualties for days. I will have to go try that step up.. I have almost forgotten about it. Iron Monkey also has quite a rocky section which might hurt even more by that THAT time of the day.
  22. Plumbers drop-in is only scary because its somewhat blind. Go and ride the thing on your own with no people around and its no issue. What it does do, is give you an instant boost of speed which is pretty hard to control if you're still focused on "the drop". So either way, get your head in the game That off camber rock garden just before the first road crossing is going to catch a few guys out though.
  23. Haha, Ag its not so bad, the only thing to really be scared of is the pressure one puts on oneself. Like, can I still keep up with the lads..? I haven't done a Enduro for 3 years..?? and last time I was fitter stronger and everyone else still sucked. The climbs however, do scare me..
  24. Also Entered, and I'm more than happy with "only"4 stages Route from Entryninja: The Route Liaison 1: a nice little warm up... +350m Stage 1: Red Phoenix/Bennet's Red, top to bottom: 2.58km, -318m Liaison 2: This is where you start hating us a little! +318m climb. Stage 2. The Plumber: definitely to top two sections, including all large features. maybe also the lower section if there are reasonable riding lines around the jumps. We have yet to check out it's condition. 1.17km, -246m Liaison 3: This is where you start hating us a little more! +311m climbing Stage 3. Armageddon/Canaries: top-to bottom including re-vamped upper section and Zululand lower. It's easier, but it's longer... hello arm pump! 4km, -453m There will be a Cadence Nutrition water point at the bottom of Canaries, for you to wash away your tears. Liaison 4: There is no hate. There is only being one with the bike. And a donderse climb. +436m Stage 4. Iron Monkey: top to bottom. -479m
  25. Any route details for this?
