  1. I don't want to Jinx it but It hardly rains in the Worcester. I now live here(my house in the background of the poster) Seriously it might rain against the back mountains and it does get cold but this place repels water. So bring warm kit. a pair of arm-warmers is not going to cut it. Beautiful route though with a couple of steep little climbs which will hurt later on in the race. I might do the 35km but I've ridden about 260km this whole year so far so I'm not even considering further.
  2. That Canyon I've been looking at getting one of these. I live out where there are a multitude of great dirt roads but the only tar is provincial roads which I am not very comfortable riding on. I thoughts were a Gravel bike that doubles up as a roadbike. So If I could have my way I'd want to have a set of road discs with 25cc slicks and a set of 2-2.2'' Wheels which would double up as MTB race wheels and Gravel bike. One would then have 3 x 29er wheelsets. That's If one could get a MTB and Road frame with similar dropouts. That would be my wish.
  3. I Agree.. Kate is in for a rude awakening. Ariane Also looking strong. Her and Langvad would have made a killer team but they are both teamed up by (in my opinion) weaker partners. So will be interesting watching. Often these combos just don't work and the stronger rider blows up the weaker..
  4. YES!!! Haha. Is it the kind of day one can bring your family to?
  5. Are you gents saying this event is worth it? I've been sinking about it. How tough is the long route? Any comparison to Eselfontein?
  6. Digging these vibes as well. Think theres still a market for guys in the Trail segment wanting a bike that climbs well and dropping the front end will always score well here. There seemed to be a time when everyone was doing dual position/U-turn/ travel adjust on forks but with the introduction of Enduro it seems to be more acceptable to have to climb in that position? Locking it out doesn't do much apart from ease the bobbing when climbing out the saddle, but lowering the front end has a way bigger effect. Unless you really don't mind the uncomfortable position or walk the climbs anyway. I can imagine it complicates things and while the focus on actual suspension performance has never been bigger the guys are perhaps focused on this, not gimmicks to drop the front end.
  7. This is very nice. Not the biggest Merida fan but this might change my perception all together!
  8. Does someone know..Are those last photos the new additions of the trail? I saw Trailtroop post some pics on insta. On which of the trails are they or does more than one make use of it. ?
  9. All I know.. Day one will take you 10 hours plus, and If you get a headwind(winter) you will be looking at 12 hours plus. In fact.. they are all pretty tough, but I guess a group of 3-4 fit & focused riders will make it.
  10. Very Noice! I'd be keen for sure! Nice that one can just ride.. If you have a good day, just ride the whole thing, or take it town by town.
  11. Ah this is so Photo shopped Nice bru. Shot for the ride yesterday.
  12. I've ridden this place about 4 times and agree with you all. Its crazy. I really enjoy how one can carry a good amount of speed through most of the lines. Also the jumps and berms are a breath of fresh air compared to many of the trails around Cape Town which are not built for ripping..These trials inspire the inner shredder to come out. As a word of warning, it gets very hot and humid in there and since what goes down must come back up, prepare to sweat a whole lot going up the technical climbs out of the ravines on sunny summer days. My favourite trails are: Short drop line with decent sized table top jumps and berms Yellow pumping smaller version of above. The new Mountain mania.. No Jumps (at least when I rode it) see video below evidence of the property I bought halfway down. Its a 10 minute leg burner that will blow your mind. The climb up there is pretty nasty though. Here's a clip that Fellow Hubber "Nox" took of us riding the new line. "#Mountainmania" in January. It was very wet this day so slightly sketch but unbelievably fun you can pretty much go as fast as your nerves allow you to go.
  13. Sick. Yea I guess there's also just something about ripping it up on a short travel bike.. slightly riskey Like a chick going to church with a short skirt and high heels..!! Not that I'd know hahaha
  14. I would also like to demo this. Even do a review. I might build it slightly more conservatively to keep weight down. What does it weigh as is? There is a unique breed of mtbikers that don't fit into the typically polarised stereotypes. They wear lycra, or baggies, or whatever they feel is more comfortable on the day. They will hang with the XC whippets, on Saturday, whip the Enduro rippers on the Sunday and ride the 24hours of Oak Valley the next weekend. You only have one bike. You enter 40-80km racesThe weight DOES matterThe downhill performance must not come at the cost of climbing. However a stock XC race FS bike just does not cut it when boosting rollers, hitting jumps at speed or flying down singletrack at 40kmph. Sign me up!
  15. I'm pretty sure the call was made from the car, just to keep an "upset"off the cards. Must have been pretty awkward out there when it was said. JvR might have had him all the way I agree but it wouldn't have tasted nice. It will leave him hungry though.
  16. Stefan de Bod is developing into a great young prospect. Hope he is looked after well and some of the international DI Data riders takes him under their wing when in SA.
  17. Stating the obvious here, but if full road closures were never going to happen, because of all the farming activity in the area, the route should perhaps have been thought out better?
  18. Darn.. Take me back! If I may request.. More jumps (slightly bigger) on that last run..!
  19. To be fair, its a 29er... lol @Myles Mayhew Remember the jumptrack in Knysna? Think 90s..

    Review: Pyga Stage

I think it purely comes down to the numbers. Carbon moulds isn't cheap. Unlucky
  21. How much is the entry if you're a PPA member? R510...is quite stiff. Thinking if its heavily discounted It might be pay a bit towards reinstating my membership. Haven't bothered the last couple of years.. R500 x 35 000=17 500 000.... Almost the reverse of the Cape Epic model
  22. @Esels, That's a pitty. I wasn't aware that would be the arrangement. Are there any entries left for the 3 day race? @Wolver, The date has moved back and forth between October and Nov but its always been the same race/festival so I don't see there being another event.
  23. @Esel, is the 60km not open to the Saturday only riders?
