  1. I was "running" 33PSI at Jonkers last year and Im (70KG's) for all the rides before the Enduro Nationals, and never had a pinch, only suffered a small ding. In the beginning it feels a bit hard but one gets use to it. I'd probably prefer that over the 1000g's DD casing and inserts would weight. On EWS Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb_puXicyKo Ric McLaughlin asks the riders what they are running. Pinkbike did a whole spread on DH tire pressures.. If I recall the DH guys were running 25PSI front and 32rear? Thats less than what I run, but I suspect its because they run DH casings and all of them use inserts these days.
  2. Yes.. You dont want to go back.. You are quick to forget how your 2.5WT will roll off the rim in berms, or the rim will need trueing after every ride. 30mm ID rims dont look so wide on a 2.4 tyre anyway. Since I've been running 30mm ID rims I have hardly had to true a rim, but I dinged my rim so bad without even noticing that I could not get the tire off the rim! It literally pinched it and I had to pry the bead open to get it to release. Tyres and rims cost about the same these days. My new bike will just have RAPIDE TR30 rims, which are for argument sake, trail wheels, but there was very little difference to the Spanks I upgraded to. If I have to replace a R900 back rim once every 1.5 years. I can probably live with it.
  3. Perhaps the tire inserts do that ??
  4. Perhaps try bottomless tokens
  5. Harder rims will pinch your EXO rear tyre, but wont ding the rim. So If you go DDown on the rear, you'll be ok. I'm in berlin next week. Wish EXO plus was available for the AGGRESSOR. I might just go for the EXo regardless.
  6. Id be very keen but my bike is not here yet (Stolen in Nov). Its really not that gnarly a track and a perfect enduro stage really. I will try make the other events for sure.
  7. Yes you are right, but then I would start with a much cheaper fork to start off with. I picked up a 2019' Revelation RC Debonair on the hub here for R4500. Im getting the RCT3 upgrade, which sets me back just under 3K (I'll pick it up from bikecomponents.de when in Berlin next month) But the Ultimate damper is R5500.. which If you're already paying 10K for a fork, Is a lot of cash. If you're coming off of a Recon, You-ll be happy on any Pike. If youre not at least an advanced rider riding proper technical trails all day long, the Highspeed compression setting is a waste of time (read minefield) Rochshox Charger 1 dampers have a rep for being harsh or spike on successive big hits.. which was because the circuit was designed to accommodate heavier riders. (Having your fork's shimstack adjusted would sort most of this out) Charger 2 dampers is apparently better, and the 2.1 is apparently is pretty good off the bat (if you're in the 70-80kg weight zone), Listen to the audio clip halfway down the VitalMTB article below, they did a lot of work trying to make the 2.1 smoother https://www.vitalmtb.com/features/2020-RockShox-Suspension-Overhaul-See-the-New-Signature-Series-Products-Charger-2-1-Damper-Update-an,2657 The Charger RC (selfbleeding damper) in the Pike select can also be tweaked a bit, its all in the MTBR thread. But thats if you actually reach the performance limits of the fork at all. Its like going from a MP200 bakkie to a entry level ranger Fortuner, its already worlds apart.
  8. Hi There The differences in the Pike forks are all in the damper. So the Debonair side are exactly the same. The most obvious differences to you are the settings on top of the right fork leg but they do differ "under the hood" as well. . The Pike select and select+ which I think was called the RC previously has a simple low speed compression dial. "Under the hood" The Pike Select uses a slightly more elementary version of the Charger damper called the Charger RC damper. There are whole threads about it here: https://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-suspension/2018-rock-shox-revelation-rc-1063027.html It was previously only available on OEM Revelation Charger RC and Lyric Charger RC forks. The good news is that the damper actually performs really well. Has a slightly simpler version of the expanding bladder style but its actually similar to the FOX GRIP damper, and, as I said, Performs well. The RCT3 Has 3 distinct pre-set Low speed compression settings (Open- Trail-Lock), with a finer tuning dial for the open setting. This is my preferred option, since I use thee trail setting when climbing. The RCT3 has the Charger 2 or 2.1 expanding bladder style damper with a pre-set high speed compression and the low speed compression adjustment mentioned above. The Pike Ultimate has the Charger RC2 damper which has independent low and high speed adjustment, but no trail mode. Pike Ultimate, Is the ultimate, but I think to you it will be the ultimate minefield. To simplify, If you're going to use a "trail" function a lot, get the Pike Select. If budget is not a problem, the RCT3 with 3 position low speed is nice to have. However, they all are serious forks and can handle pretty gnarly stuff. Only when ridden really hard will you exploit the benefits of your hard earned cash in the higher end models. The higher end Pikes might feel slightly smoother, since the new ones have a soft HSC tune, but If thats all you're after, get a Reba.
  9. mm, I'm not so sure. What I am referring to is perhaps more a function of progression, which is a spring curve thing. Something to push off of when wanting to pop off rocks and little ledges.
  10. Well the DHR II is even worse as a front tyre..tried it. According to MAXXIS, its suppose to be a faster rolling rear alternative to the DHRII , so It wont ever be a "Ass-guy light", since the ass-guy is even slower rolling than the DHR ?
  11. So since I'm in the market for suspension... There are 3 x MRP Ribbon coils in classifieds... I kind of know how to tune a pike now, have the charger damper bleed kit, and I know I can make any pike feel pretty good, or good enough for me anyway. However, the MRP promises slightly smoother stroke(better sensitivity) and travel adjustability which will come in handy. I'm not sold on coil spring mid stroke support, but I thought Id come here and do the responsible thing.. ask on hubland.
  12. @Mayhem I know NOXX just got one from the factory, he should be able to give some feedback, although perhaps not a straight comparison to the DHR and Agressor, which we are comparing it to.
  13. They will probably only pay out about R25000 If Im lucky. So I'm going to have to go pretty budget on the suspension parts. But will rather build up again, since I can at least pick and choose. Will probably get a Pike again (there is 2 in classifieds) since I now have all the tools to bleed them and tune the shim-stacks etc, I know I can make them feel good enough. The rear will probably not be a piggyback shock straight away. But It will do for a start. Probably have a bunch of lower end stuff that I can upgrade over time again.. sigh.. But It would afford me the opportunity to jump to a more Gnar-worthey frame for sure.
  14. This is what I have in mind.
  15. That is quite nice, I must say. If, insurance pays out, I am caught between wanting a Enduro worthey bike, and a trailbike that will make my everyday trails fun.. I had a 135mm/150mm bike, and it was pretty capable, but on the fast steep stuff It was still out of its depth.. Is 150mm at the back to much to pedal around? I do have 2 x wheelsets, (one lightweight and one solid) and Im not exactly doing 50km marathon rides lately, I just want to get to the top fine. The answer, I guess Is that it totally depends on bike and Geo.
  16. ICAN - Direct import P8. The same as this https://evolvebikes.ca/products/alpen-29
  17. Hi guys, Just a headsup, My Bike was stolen on from our house in Worcester on Thursday night. Broke in, alarm activated, but got away. Please keep your eyes open on classifieds, Gumtree, Taxi rank etc.. Easiest thing to Identify is the White Pike DPA RTC3. Those are hens teeth around here.
  18. Hi gents, My Bell Super R3 is slightly to big for me, causing problems with sunglasses and just a bit to much "play" between my dome and the helmet. I am going to the UK next week (black Friday) and have the option of bringing the right size from Halfords, Merlin or CRC. OR, I could get a Leatt locally. Has anyone had both and can shed some light on the situation? Regards
  19. Saw n Insta. Guy clipped and broke his pedal, was unconscious.
  20. I just saw this on FB last night. Never rode Muratie though..worth it? https://www.facebook.com/events/1358811797614119/# Dirtopia Pop up Enduro...How does this one work? Marked stages. Tag readers at top & bottom. Ride the ones you like, as many times as you want within a time period between 8am and 1pmish. See the live timing online and compare stages with yourself and friends. Stop for drinks or food at Muratie when you want. We'll have medics on standby
  21. Bliksem, Ive done F*koll since EWC, I'd most definately not be betering my times and would be walking even more of the route. Good luck, post Strava times here Actually I think a stopwatch time is more accurate. Enjoy and send pics of those trails, I'm missing them!
  22. If you're Fit, and have good trail riding skills like you probably do, you'll be absolutely fine. Do It! I'm hooked on riding like I haven't been in years after this event and already thinking about next year!
  23. Whats my password again...?
  24. Next time... The timers at the end of the stage definitely gets the raw end of the deal, with riders being to gassed to talk or even thank you guys mostly. I was wondering about the state of the trails after the event. I guess its bitter sweet. Great having the event in such an awesome location, but the trails is pretty buggered for summer from here on in. Temperatures rising this week and probably not a lot of rain left means its not going to improve. However this probably would have happened eventually anyway.
  25. On the topic.. Would have been nice to meet some of the hubbers! Although way to serious of an event to expect people to wear hub kit, unless there were serious performance benefits to it If you guys got some photos from the event photog? Post some to see what you all look like?
