  1. Cant imaging anyone in this country needing one of those for anything else than bragging rights. When the guys winning the enduro races are not even using enduro bikes. Will be more handy at the endure class of the DH series. But wondering how long they keep the Lyric on. Although Its a very successful product and they'd be stupid to cull it.
  2. There are parts of the other trails I love.. but as a whole.. Red P does it for me. If I had to break it up in sections: Iron Monkey's top 2 tiers.. the flowtrail part is so hot and then the next pretty nice with some proper gnar in the rocks, but not quite as bad as Plumber's middle. Armageddon 7&6..the first two we did at the EWC. Also keen to ride the DH trail..next time I have some time in there, some nice jumps and gaps to do. I now have a Annual Jonkers Permit so I guess im kind of local there. However, I rode Helderberg with Nox about a month ago, they did some serious grooming on some trails and rode so good! some gaps to he hit as well. Was a bit windy on the particular day, but I'll be back for sure.
  3. Take me there.. Red Phoenix has to be my favorite trail right now. Its not the most Gnarly, steepest or has the best jumps.. but I just love the continuous flow of speed and especially the middle part where you just bomb straight down with a ravine next to you and a wall on your right. I could do laps of it all day. Would love a few more airtime options.. but its darn close to the perfect "trailbike trail"..
  4. Wow. Cant help but drool over that Ohlins equipped Privateer. What's the seat angle on that thing anyway?
  5. Hey, of course man, Im not bashing anyone, I was just saying. Probably stating the obvious. Trails are obviously not this bikes main focus, and I agree with you, but a capable rider can do amazing things with these things. I use to be an advocate for this, even doing the Plumber, drop included with my full height saddle although pretty darn scary! I think I'm just getting old
  6. Nice bike, Nice paint options. It feels like a bit of a forgotten art with all the attention going to Geo, Kinematics, tech etc. Nice one Spez. I'd love one of those Magic mushroom inspired paint-jobs. via Pinkbike Funny I didn't see one in Jonkershoek this passed weekend Speaking of Stellies though, I know the big "S" is based in Stellies, so It makes sense to have this shoot/launch there. I rode Armageddon which is more on the xc side of things, right? Well I rode it (on my Enduro bike) with my brother inlaw on his RM Element, and I suddenly became aware how rough and technical even that trail was. Hard to Imagine anyone still wanting 100mm bikes. But then again, 90% of the country rides dirtroads I guess.. If you live and ride in these areas however, and taking into account how efficient bikes are these days, a 120mm Epic would be my choice.
  7. https://youtu.be/SQ51ww-qQ6U Check this out.. Its hard to imagine.. but Big Wyn Masters Rips this little LTS circa 1997 so hard! I was waiting for those wheels to buckle around every turn. Probably because thats all I can remember from the 90's !
  8. Haha, maybe..maybe.. Maybeee I just ride so smoothly I have been riding it pretty firm to be honest. Trying to keep it high in the travel. I took the C2 damper out a while ago to do the "MTBR-light rebound tune" and put the Moco back in, I couldn't bottom that out either So perhaps its something to do with the Pies.
  9. Hans I went from the C1 RCT3, to the C2 RCT3, and must admit, the biggest performance gain might have come from the new airspring (I had the DPA though). The C2 damper has a softer compression tune, which is more comfortable at "supportive" spring pressures, If that makes sense. Which is nice for me, but im a lightweight and you might not want/need that. Apparently C2.1's tune is even softer and you might have to get it custom tuned firmer anyway, since the original C1's shimstack would have been perfect for you. The Debonair II or III does make sense though and you will enjoy that. So, my answer would be, get the latest debonair spring, and get your damper custom tuned for a win-win. The Newer boost fork is nice and wide looking though, Looks a bit more "stout" incase you were just itching for something new.
  10. Running no tokens at the moment. I managed to use full travel a couple of times, but that was only when hitting a certain G-out on my home trails so fast I almost blacked out from the Gforces I rode Helderberg 2 weeks ago and only got about 120mm even after bonking some of the jumps. I dropped 3-5 psi before hitting Jonkershoek this weekend, and although the fork felt more comfortable on the smaller stuff, and not really harsh on the big stuff, Its just not using that last 25mm which is not a train smash, but I'd like to believe if it does what the new MK3 Airspring says, it should be pretty good. I'll be sure to comment once I've tested it. I can always throw a token back in, but one cant take more out right now.
  11. I Believe Tom has..? I ordered one but have not managed to collect it. Will let you know when I do. I rode Jonkers this weekend that passed and Still only used 120 of my 150 mm travel. Lets hope the new spring unlocks the last bit.
  12. In that case, you'll have to consider how much compromise the versatility brings. However in this case there might not be much?
  13. With the current trend of SA riding, "Racing" becoming more technical and Enduro riding becoming a more popular choice, this bike pretty much covers the one bike quiver..
  14. Wow. How badly do I want to go ride some of Hyltons trails right now! I've built a bit in my lifetime, and I'd admit I've never been able to just build something first time, and it just worked. However, Where I live currently out in the Breede valley, there are hardly any proper red or black trails but mountains all around. I have permission to build I just need time and rain. Go Hylton. Please come build more trails in WC.
  15. Hey Cap, been reading through the MTBR thread on it, and I think If possible, rather get a longer travel air-spring. The new Debonair MKIII seems to have a smaller negative spring, which might make it even harder to reach full travel although its not what they clam. https://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-suspension/rockshox-debonair-2021-a-1133399.html#post14673989
  16. Yea, likewise. I'm getting exactly 142mm on my 150mm pike, on my bike thats designed for a 150mm fork.
  17. And in the Blue corner... https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/gear/gear-news/rockshox-updates-debonair-air-spring-for-2021-r8110?source=sidebar As you probably gathered, this just pi$$ed me off big time..
  18. One more question to Rockshox please. How does an oversight like this sneak into a top tier top dollar suspension design, gets rolled out to thousands of products before the fix is released as an upgrade 3 years later? Sorry to sound negative when there is something else but COV - 19 news for a change. But as you can gather, I have one of these products that needs the "Fix" They have revised the air-spring 3 times in 3 years. I have the MKII on my new Pike (the red sealhead/PIKE) which works fine but as I found out and was perplexed by, the 150mm version only has 140mm travel, and that was apparently OK at the time? Being a Product designer I know how this works. This thing wasn't tested and developed properly. It goes like this: R&D calls Marketing; "Heya guys we got another upgrade on the air-spring you will love it." Marketing; "What is it?" R&D; "Well its a new anodized red seal-head that gives a plusher initial stroke which one can feel right in the carpark and weekend warriors will love!" Marketing" great we are just finalizing the catalog for next year and need all the details ASAP." R&D; "Well we are still in the testing phase but so far it works a treat, the only downside is the larger air spring is taking 10mm to settle to equilibrium, therefore we need to redesign the seal head offsets or lengthen the air shaft so that the 10mm is taken into account before allowing it to have the right amount of travel, it will take 3 weeks.." Marketing; "We don't have time its good enough.."
  19. Agree. The Flats and stem had me wondering if this bike has been updated for Lock-down (backyard riding)
  20. I Posted my whole Story a week before lock-down, so some of you might have seen it.. (Stolen) no bike for the best part of summer then as soon as I got a new one, the boss of the world says "LOCKDOWN" I cant tell you how badly I want to take this baby down Red Phoenix ! The story goes... My bike was stolen in the early hours of the morning on black Friday 2019, never to be seen again. However, since it was stolen from my house "Santa"m came to the party and paid out an amount I could put a fairly descent bike together with If I shopped around cleverly. As it turns out, every part has a unique story in where they came from or how they came to be that both makes the build more special because of what I managed to put together for the price, and, the mission I went through getting them. Every part had a story Fork - RS Revelation (150mm debonair) now Pike from bikehubSA. Then when I traveled to the UK in Feb, I picked up a Charger 2 RCT3 damper on e-bay UK and brought It home with me. Frame - ICAN P9 /Evolve Alpha 150mm Ex China, Snuck this out there hours before Chinese Lockdown.RS Deluxe RT3 bought new from Ukraine EbaySRAM GX Eagle group set (Bikehub)ECC hubs (bought for a bargain from a local kid who tried servicing the hub himself, incorrectly installing a bearing and doomed the hubs bust, took me 30mins and they were good as new) on Rapide TR30 rims, built myself.Shimano deore brakes (Still need a 180mm rotor for the back) + Pedals bikehub Lyne Components:-Pulse Carbon 35Di bars bikehub-Pulse 55mm Stem Stoke-170 Contour dropper bought from a buddyMaxxis 29x2.5' Aggressor + 2.5' DHF exo+ Stoke Since it took me months to receive all the parts, I opted to build the bike myself. Took muuch longer than anticipated but in the end, apart from the BB, there were no issues. PS. Excuse the water bottle, I had to got a side entry and the pink one of my wife's bike was all that fitted for the first ride but that's now sorted. I now have 3 photos
  21. Hey Mr Smooth, when this whole Lock-down is over, can we organize a ride down the Iron Monkey and Red Phoenix ? Maybe even Invite your retired from MTB younger but older brother ? I feel for you. Your garden was this neat, and your bikes this clean before lockdown, WTF are you going to do for 3 weeks!!?? Nice bike

Not sure this has been covered on here but I signed up to Re-Brickable a while ago. Its a brilliant concept and can give many sets a new lease on life. You can buy plans for your old sets to make new builds. The platform of uploading your sets so you would know If you qualify to build other sets however, is a ball-ache. Lets just say I haven't had a few hours to try figure it out. https://rebrickable.com/home/ Give it a go though.
  23. Those EXO sidewalls are not the same as the EXO on the gravity tyres by a long shot. I burped ardent Race's on the rear, time and time again.
  24. Sacrilege! Gram counting on the fork, but running kg tires. I'm running one myself, but on a trailbike.
  25. Gotta love these guys testing XC bikes with DHF tyres
