  1. I had the same issue, every race i did, I'd loose a spoke. Very annoying, I assumed it was uneven tension in the spoking. It was a different spoke each time, so thought it even be corrosion. So I bought new wheels!! Problem solved!
  2. Another option is to ride the Koegelberg reserve. Enter near the Palmiet River bridge on the Cape Town side of Kleinmond. Pay the entrance fee and it's about 30km of beautiful riding down the valley. Its an out and back route. Take a picnic basket
  3. It really amazes me how much people can bitch an moan about goodie bag, seeded groups, starting time, route markings, prize money - you'd swear you were all pro's or something. This is a FUN ride. Not the Epic - that was that other event going on, on the day. Ya, R180 is steep - so if you have a problem with it, don't enter. No goodie bag, shame - i bet you'd throw most of the stuff away anyway. So they started early - so make sure you are there on time. 54km instead of 50km - the last 5km were downhill and flat - seriously??? The timing was manual, as it has been every year. There were 4 water points, plenty of good route markings - better than some events, beautiful climbs and single track and the views are always spectacular. If you road the race and finished it, be thankful that you could, and stop complaining about the tiny details. You have your health.
  4. I wouldn't suggest you ride American Classics - they are very lightweight wheels. I think their weight limit is 85kgs.

    Cycle buddy

I downloaded it onto my fiance's iPhone. seems to work. Just need to use it on a ride!!!
  6. Make yourself Bircher Meusli. You make it the night before: 1 cup raw rolled oats, 1/2 apple juice 1/2 fat free plain yoghurt 5ml cinnamon 1 grated granny smith apple (optional) mixed all together, place in sealed container in fridge over night. To serve add handful raw mixed nuts and grated apple (optional) Serves 2. Really yummy, lower GI than cooked oats, and tastes great. Given up on cooked oats too, and this has been the best discovery ever!!
  7. Mine has slipped so badly, I dont even qualify for league anymore!!! All after 4 years of racing with the women...
  8. % For me with VA. Strange mix. Should be interesting!
  9. I know that this format wont encourage positive racing among the ladies. There is no need for it. We just hang on for dear life to the Vets' wheels, and see who can hold on longest. Seems that in a very hilly race, only the pro's managed, and the rest of us just raced hard behind! I'm not complaining, as I had a good ride yesterday. But we'll see later on!!
  10. I'm really hoping you are blonde? I am female. I really didn't think that posting that fact twice in one post (and for that matter anywhere on the hub) was neccessary.
  11. My list is quite long: Had a great summer league, followed by a top 30 in the woman in the Argus. Became a mountain biker and won Potberg, and got second at Lourensford Classic. Completed Cape Pioneer with my amazing boyfriend, and then took 3rd in Hell and Back 2 day. And then Finally being in the top 7 to cross with line in the winning ladies team, in record time in DC. What a great year
  12. Haha - Good point. but she needed her sleep!!
  13. Finally built up my new bike last week. she is such a beaut (or am I biased?) Haven't had a chance to take her for a spin yet - but think it'll be awesome when i do!!
  14. Thanx. I take it you weren't riding hey?
  15. That was a great point. All the Water points were great on the CPT though!! I see you got me getting a nice cold cloth put on my neck in the first pic!
  16. Use the bracket which comes with most red rear lights.
  17. Use the N1, such a short stretch. Would use the harbour - tracks aren't nice, and cars/trucks worse on that road.
  18. There my girls
  19. With regards to seeding - and i'm in the minority on this one, but worth mentioning. I race woman's league and due to the small numbers and the actual racing that takes place, our times are a lot slower than if we were in large groups. And hence my seeding is dropping as each race receives a bad index. At face value My suggestion is that there needs to be an adjusted or weighted seeding for those of us competing in these league groups that are affected like this.
  20. We left in groups with ~5 minute intervals between each. A to H I think. Unicyclists went off first if I remember correctly. TT style or seeding for next year would be great. I was in group G and only started at 08:50 - so it was a long morning! Hey Mikkelz - I was in G too!
  21. Yup - check the SPAM thread!
  22. I'm in B, but they've messed up! meant to be in % again!
  23. Or John 'o Connor Cycles in Mouli Point
  24. I think the Herald was done like that - split the licenced ladies into 3 groups. works well, if you have enough!
  25. Prize money and recognition for woman's sport has always been an issue. However the prize money does not encourage woman to enter and race, nor does the recognition. Examples that prove this are: 1.They offered to set up a Vets Woman's League in the Western Cape if they could get 20 entrants, i think there are 21 woman in total who entered league? there was prize money offered, but there weren't people interested. 2. WP champs, they awarded medals to all age categories (all racing in one group) and they only awarded positions acording to number of entrants in that age group, not where you came overall. So (for instance) they only awarded Gold and Silver in Elite, even though the 3rd Elite who came in was 4th overall and actually made more sense to award that position than to the only (can't remember which cat) person to race in that group??? I'm by no means saying that they mustn't reward the positions, i'm just saying that it's not a sure way to get the people to race. i wish that they awarded age categories, or made sure the woman raced separetly, or enforced the rules more stricktly, or just that there were more woman interested in racing. coming first out of 3 doesn't mean as much as coming first out of 200. It's something that we'll be fighting for til the end of time no doubt.
