  1. Old Holzfellers. The 20mm rise and 780mm width on the BooBar was too wide and low. LBS didn't listen properly, and cut my steerer shorter than I asked them to - so I can't simply move my stem up, I have to switch bars if I want more height - so I switched to old Holzfellers I have. 30mm rise, 710mm width. Rise is perfect, I want a little more width, so I am looking for the new 730mm Holzfeller or the 740mm BooBar, but with a 30mm rise. Apparently 6 weeks until new stock arrives, and I don't know if that will include those. On the other front, I am still waiting for my new helmet (since I dinged mine up pretty bad). And then for bonus points try and find a short sleeve cycling jersey that's NOT skin tight. *sigh* I love South Africa, I really do, but the industry has to catch a wake up. We're not all narrow bar riding, clipless pedalling, skin suit rocking race snakes...
  2. the blue bandit would be going so much better if I could find the right bars for it CRC is not always cheaper, but I might just do that.
  3. ...of not getting what I want, and I really don't want to go the CRC route, but that might be the only solution... I know. it's a pathetic rant. I apologise. I'm just dismally frustrated, and wondering if I'm the only one?
  4. here's dan, with the sanction: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Dan-Atherton-rides-the-GT-Sanction.html check the crank / chain ring setup. delicious.
  5. IF I go this way, the primary goal would be weight saving, hence the lean towards the Oozy. Pinkbike did a good review on them: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Spank-Oozy-EVO-Rims-Tested-2011.html
  6. SupraBH - 610g, 25mm Spank Subrosa - 520g, 24.5mm Spank Oozy - 420g, 21mm Wes - 112kg, 1.8m
  7. thinking of the new oozy evo's currently running AlexRim supraBH's - they are 25mm, and moerse huge and heavy. I think they are overkill and I might be able to get away with the 21mm Oozy's, and save a little weight. I should be able to run 2.4s on them just fine, no?
  8. Been thinking of getting some Spank Oozy rims. Help me out - what do the measurements mean: ERD: 537mm ETRTO: 559 x 21mm ?
  9. dammit - would love to but hurt my back and need to stay off the bike for a little while
  10. such a great clip, a pity that style of storytelling didn't translate into the film
  11. 4:40 my word
  12. Athertons now "officially" on GT http://athertonracing.co.uk/team/team-news/ http://video.mpora.com/watch/JNgqqW3UP/ Also they parted ways with Animal - looking at all the one industries clothing they're wearing, I'd guess that's their new clothing sponsor?

    skin tight ain't right!!
  14. so I had a nice little setback yesterday - messing around on the CWC track, hit a right hander on one of the downward sloping bits, lost the bike in the corner and smacked into the rock garden, head first. lots of scrapes and bruises, but more importantly a nice concussion - even though I was pretty alert and aware when it happened, as soon as the adrenaline wore off I had severe dizziness, followed by a headache, nausea, tiredness, etc. Doc insisted on a CT scan, but thank God everything is fine. Myself, and my ego, are just seriously bruised. O and my brake lever is bent. Bah!
  15. there you go, good way to describe it.
  16. I must agree with Cptmayhem and Capricorn - the movie was way too short, and it ended abruptly. It was also "ride ride ride" as cpt mentioned - I felt they could have changed the pace up a bit, perhaps with bigger breaks between segments. As the film started the pace was welcomed, but as it kept going I longed for a break in pace - as awesome as the riding was, it actually became monotonous for a while. Still, well worth a watch.
  17. Patches, I have a question about the reverb, perhaps you can help me... Is there a way to set the "fully extended" length of the dropper post? Obviously if you drop the post you can drop it as much or as little as you want, but let's say you lift you ass totally off the seat and pop it out to "full", is there a way to set how much "full" is...? Or can you only set it up by changing how far you insert the dropper post into your frame? Dunno if that makes sense... just asking because I've thought about a dropper post, but worried that at full extension with it in the frame as far as it can go it might be too high...
  18. hmmmm.....
  19. going where? To contermans?
  20. apparently the inaugural western cape super D / enduro event took place at jonkershoek a couple of weeks back, but it was very hush hush - something like 10 riders. there should be more, bigger events happening soon

  23. It is terrible that so much can go wrong with 1 bike! My 2c - first off it's a bit unreasonable to blame Giant for how the bike was specced - if you, as you say you did, did a lot of research before hand, you would have known exactly what parts were on there. You can't look at the new model, see it has XTR, and then moan that your older model doesn't. Also - you've had issues with your seatpost / clamp, handlebars (giant?), cranks (race face), brakes (avid), derailler / shifter (shimano? sram?), - as someone said, all parts from different manufacturers - surely ALL these parts can't be cheap / inferior? either you are damn heavy on bikes, or flipping unlucky. be that as it may, when your frame snapped it was replaced quickly and easily? so at least Dragons are good in that regard. My feeling is that the bike shop that sold you the bike should be the guys going to bat for you. I had an issue with my Rock Shox rear shock that took too long to service as the distributor was waiting for seal kits - I didn't deal with the distributor once, it was my bike shop that went to bat for me and sorted me out with a loaner until mine was right. I also don't think you're going to get far here - my advice is, get a lawyer. I had a scooter that packed up once, and was supposedly under warranty - they refused to honour the warranty, trying to blame me for the damage. Clearly they didn't have much faith in their argument, because the second a lawyer's letter hit their desks, ALL repairs were done with a minimal monetary contribution from my side. Either way I hope it works out for you! Not cool to blow so much cash on a dream bike and then have issues with it...
