  1. I know ... <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Hopefully those parts make it through customs in no time & up to Jburg in a flash so that I can get those knobblies off the couch and dirty asap !
  2. Well, it was time for an upgrade & decided on an Epiphany <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I believe the complete bike from head to toe is 2010. That includes the 2010 Fox Talas shock that is not out in SA yet But, as with all new things, sometimes there?s teething problems ? The wheels are the 2010 wheels and they need a small adaptor to fit the 9mm skewers on the 2010 Talas fork ? which didn?t come with the frame & build kit. Good news is, the adapter should be in SA by tomorrow. Then it?s final touches, setup & ready for Kievits Kroon corporate challenge by Sunday. So for now, the bike is spending some quality time on the couch ?
  3. I also have cramp problems lately, someone actually recommended putting some Glutamine in my energy drink. I use it for weight training afterwards in a protein shake. Anybody tried this? What it can do With an increase in levels of glutamine, muscle catabolism is slowed down during periods of intense physical activity or stress Glutamine can possibly aid in building a damaged or lowered immune system What it cannot do Glutamine has no effect on exercise performance or body composition during periods of physical exercise Glutamine does not build muscle mass
  4. More of Groenkloof ... the video clip is a lot funnier ... Already lost it going down ... Having a good laugh while the dust settles ...
  5. Groenkloof ... Still going ... Going down ... And a good laugh for all spectators ...
  6. Had a lekker early morning ride on Saturday, wanted to show the bridge to mates ... Took the black route, but must have missed a route marker ... we only managed 27.5km ... or is it on the blue route? Forgot to ask if there's route maps at Teak's reception, you guys perhaps have maps or know of?
  7. Not an easy decision ? good luck ?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> There?s a million opinions & thoughts out there ? Had to make the same decision on new bike ? in the end budget decided what combination of frame & build kit I could go for Also try these links from Google: http://outside.away.com/outside/gear/200905/outside-cycling-issue-mountain-bike-reviews-intro.html http://bestmountainbikesonline.com/ http://www.bicycling.com/mb/home/0,8132,s1-6-0-0-0,00.html
  8. Have a look here - sure you'll find the answer: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=49241&KW=customsYsterman2009-10-13 02:34:24
  9. Ag lekker man, baie geluk
  10. ... Also thought about this ... my conclusion is that its better to date a non cyclist ( for me ) Reason is - I cycle to relax, get away from it all, or pedal myself to death to get rid of frustration, talk sh$t to my buddies for hours, discuss girls ..., marriage issues, sex problems or the lack of it ... If she wants to come along, I cant do that anymore
  11. http://home.freeuk.com/jrknight/smileys/postpics.gif Awesome ride!
  12. Thanks, will try these out
  13. Just wandering how you fasten your bike on a bike rack (I have a Thule RideOn 942 ) without damaging the paint etc. The Thule works great, but the rubber sleeve provided to protect the bike did not last long, then I used an old tube around the upright with some success ? but somehow there is still damage to the paint<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Maybe it is unavoidable due to vibration, potholes & speed bumps ? there will always be something that causes the bike & rack to shake violently ? but maybe you?ve discovered something that limits the damage to the bike I?m getting a beaut of a MTB soon, and really want to avoid any marks from a bike rack ?
  14. The plan was a follow: <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> - replace the frame now: R15-20k (import frame eg can get Ellsworth for R20-22k) (not sure what other frames one can get separate ? any recommendations?) - current bike has XT components ? rebuild onto new frame as much as possible, and just replace what?s needed - replace rest of components with time before s2c (current components about 4yrs old and have done some hard riding) - total budget: as close to R30k as possible (second hand & imported parts) - need to last another 4-5 years
  15. My current bike weights in at a whopping 14kgs ?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Is there any rule of thumb that will guide you to achieve a certain weight e.g. for a 11kg bike: if frame is 2.5kg, then wheels & tyres needs to be ?x? and rest of components ?y?
  16. Jip, another one of those threads ?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> So the Ride Before You Buy at Groenkloof did not give me any more clarity on what MTB I want/should get ? I?m just more confused ? I enjoyed all the rides, but didn?t get to ride all the bikes ? and then all the brands were not there either. The difference to me was the following, and I?m making these assumptions for you to correct and help me decide: ? It was my 1st time on a 5? travel bike ? the biggest decision I think I need to make ? o I?m competitive, like racing ? but I?m no racing snake & am not going to get a podium finish soon o How much time/energy/whatever is really lost if I were doing a 75km Dirty Harry or S2C on a 5? travel bike o 2 of the 5? bikes it did feel as if I were ?losing? the rear wheel on tight corners ? o The Cannondale Rize surprised me, didn?t have that ?couch? feeling, maybe it was just setup correct, etc ? A lekker/good ride was a 10kg 4? carbon Giant dual suspension, but again this is probably to be expected of a 10kg bike ? Major differences I think between the bikes was due to bike setup and components ? Could not really experience the different dual suspension technology that the brands claim makes their bikes better that the other brands ? ? And then there was the GF 29er ... So, this is my thinking: ? There is no way I will be able to test ride all the MTBs out there ? Make a call between 4? & 5?. I really enjoyed the more comfy ride of the 5?, but want a frame that is least ?couch? like ? Decide what brand/technology is generally accepted as ?good? and that I like and get the frame. Budget will decide ? ? Build up with selected components to achieve weight/budget/bike setup constraints ? Target weight = 12kg So where did I miss the boat here ? Ysterman2009-09-21 07:35:14
  17. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Back of Midstream Estate, on Down & Dirty route Friend of mine stays in Midstream and does a lot of MTBing on the farms & plots there. From Midstream there is access to many single and jeep tracks and can easily do over 60kms, of which some of it is on the Down and Dirty route. Been riding there on his own many times & we?re using it extensively for training rides. Been very safe ? Yesterday, five of us went out for a 3 hour ride, when 3 idiots tried to attack us. It?s on the Down & Dirty route after the 30km split ? see pic. Think these dudes were novices, but they did manage to smash my buddy?s Specialized helmet with a piece of wood and manage to get a second shot in across his arm. We fought back by throwing stones etc. and they ran away. Next time, me thinks they will be more prepared ?
  18. My sani2c buddy lost his garmin edge 705 at the race finish on Friday. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> If miraculously, any of you know something, please let me know. The lost garmin we can live with (will somehow get over it ...), but we?re very sad about the race information on the garmin. Therefore, if we can get the info ? we can ?let go? of the garmin ? we don?t want names, details, etc. ? just the info Many thanks
  19. Team GT going down ... 1st racing snakes over the bridge
  20. We were very lucky to snap team GT hitting the decks there on the bridge at the same time ? will try post later when I have more time.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Awesome race ? will have to go study the Oxford dictionary for more appropriate words to describe it ? ABSOLUUT BEVANGE!!! Was my 1st, and I will be back next year for more!!! Question for you guys that was there ? the photos that were shown every night ? they did show the website of the dude ? but I can?t remember what it was. Anybody with a good memory. Then where do we find all the other photos or videos. I see action photo only has a disappointing few ?
  21. My Raleigh RDS 7.0 Med. (19.5") frame snapped on Saturday. The welding joint on the vertical pipe below the rear shock came loose complete ? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Question is ? do I get another RDS 7.0 frame, or do I upgrade? And what would be a good frame to upgrade to? Needs to be dual suspension Budget at this stage is just not going to allow for a new bike, but need to be smart cause ?goedkoop koop is duur koop?
  22. What makes a glove good or comfy for you? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> My hands go numb and I hate it! Bought some expensive Specialized gloves that were recommended by LBS, but my hands still goes numb ?
  23. So how does one put together a simple training program for an event such as s2c?<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> For those of you lucky enough to have gotten an entry ? yo mind sharing your training plans? I can only ride on weekends ? So can we just base it on doing certain distances per weekend / or hours ? so that we can possibly simulate the first two days about two weeks before the start - by doing it comfortably ? Not sure I?m in to complex heart rate training programs ?
  24. ... found this on Michelin's website ... if I am allowed to copy: "Why have a fitting direction? The tyre's fitting direction will enable mountain bikers to optimize their tyres' performance in terms of braking and traction. In the most frequent types of usage, the front tyre has to contribute to braking, while the rear tyre has to provide maximum traction, as it transmits to the ground the force applied by the cyclist on the pedal." "Should everyone ride with the same fitting direction? Depending on their style of riding, each individual may seek different types of performance, so everyone can adapt the fitting direction to their riding style." Ysterman2008-10-02 03:39:20
