  1. How do you go about choosing the correct stem? I'm busy in the process of building up my new hardtail 26" bike, and require some advise on selecting the correct stem. This is being built up as a XC race bike. having normally just bought a complete bike off the shelf and going with the stem supplied I want to get this correct. Having recently been for a proper bike setup, I was advised for my old bike(26" GT hardtail) to move from a 90mm to a 100mm stem. The guy doing the setup did not really say there was anything else wrong with the stem(rise) besides the length for me. Now how do I go about selecting the correct new stem? I did a lot of reading online into this, but need some further advice please. Do I go carbon or Alu? Flat Stem or a with rise? The current stem has a 6 degree rise and others I've looked at have a 10 degree rise? Will there be a major difference in the setup between the two hardtails, from GT to Giant XTC Comp. I've been offered to come back free of charge to have a new setup done, should I wait till then to see what I will need? Many Thanks
  2. Not sure if I'm being a bit over the top here, and it may be a bit off topic, but it is a good idea to put some sort of protection around the seat tube where the front mech clamps?
  3. I think it should be a personal choice. Certain instances I won't, most of the time I will.
  4. I stand to be corrected, but as far as I know it is legal to ride without a helmet in SA. Its the same as the OMO/Surf ad where the kid riding the Specialized builds his granny a sidecar to join his ride, no helmet.
  5. Would this apply to a carbon seatpost in a carbon frame, or does it also occur with alu seatpost in carbon frame as well?
  6. Thanks for that, was looking at getting a set of ZTR 650b built up, just need to be absolutely sure that it will work on my new frame. I got the measurement of 684mm from the Stans website. an extra 12mm so should sneak in. The front wheel is not an issue, just the back I need to be sure of. I've got a chance to get some Stan's rims for next to nothing.
  7. Is this a common problem? Any way to avoid this happening, going to be putting a new seatpost into my first carbon frame and would like to try avoid this.
  8. So much of nice , does it live in the Wendy House?
  9. This a great idea Why can't they make them inbiodegradablee packaging? Can anyone elaborate on this
  10. They are not really selling too many Trance 26" at the moment, as far as my LBS store in concerned they will not be bringing anymore in. I'm not complaining I picked up a 120mm Fox Fork off a Trance for next to nothing on Friday
  11. I was told this morning that he swerved into the path of the taxi by a mate that was riding.
  12. Would be awesome if you could run a decent bike maintanence course as well, if you are gonna go the DIY route

  15. Maybe a call to the cops is needed to get the patrols back out.
  16. Can anyone confirm a diameter for a 650b rim, I seem to be getting conflicting info on the worldwide web. Some sites are saying 584mm others mention 571mm, and if I convert 27.5" it gives me 698.5mm. Would like to get me a set of rims, but need to be sure of rim sizing and then tyre size as well.
  17. Eish, thats hectic. Seems to be getting out of hand again . No where seems safe to ride in Joburg . Did they manage to keep their bikes?
  18. I think it may have been the old Rush Sports Website

  20. So which one is it then, all jokes aside, cause there are 4/5 various bikes to look at in that link.
