  1. If you have a smart trainer, and using it with erg mode mostly, then either will work. Mag trainers are usually dumb, so you will need gears to change your effort, as they get harder the faster you ride.
  2. Do you have latex tubes? They are known to lose pressure quikly. Butyl tubes should not be losing pressure that quickly.
  3. Start of last year I could not get to 1km without stopping to catch my breath. Now a chilled 10 km seems like a fun run over the weekend. Slowly stepping up trying to see if there is a limit, so far so good. Just learned that jumping from 12 km to 21 km was a bad idea. That hurt the next week. Hopefully getting to comfortable 21 km by December.
  4. Ah lovely, good luck with that. Do you perhaps have the tyre clearance for the valerian bikes nearby? The only thing my current road bike is missing is clearance for more than 25mm tyres. Will even put up with disk brakes for a bit more comfort...
  5. @Titan Racing Bikes Just checking if this is indeed accurate? Seems like all you valerian road models have 100mm travel and clearance for 2,35 tyres?
  6. Yeah, if you are not using the extra features of the SunSynk it is a waste to pay more for it. I am a bit of a tinkerer, so will be using this with smart geyser switch to use excess solar to power my geyser (and oven sometimes). The extra the inverter cost is still less than a geyser retrofit. And I get more toys to play with.
  7. This is the Sunsynk 5,5kw. This specific view is only available if you have the CT clamp in the right position, before the main switch. So it monitors what is used before the inverter, and sends power back to power it if there is excess. The main reason I went for this inverter instead of the LuxPower/Growatt some others I know have.
  8. Got panels last week and with a short google and a few settings even the geyser is being supplied when I have enough battery and solar going. Next step is more bettery to maximise the panels I have, potentially more panel if I need after that. Currently already fully charged and running only on solar by lunch time.
  9. On their podcast they did mention that taking unstructured rides into account (and adjusting your plan, FTP etc) is currently being worked on. Just not ready for public release yet. So if that is the killer feature, you might want to wait a bit until that is released. I have a really hectic schedule and do not want to spend the extra mental energy making sure the training I get is good for the time I can spend on it. For that Trainer Road is perfect for me. I set up the plan, do the workouts that are prescribed, adjusting to longer or shorter (alternate workouts) as I have time. No faffing with FTP, TSS, periodisation etc, all done in the background taking my goal events into account. I have Youtube or Spotify playing anyway in my workouts, the avatar thing never clicked for me.
  10. What an effort, almost unbelieveble 😅
  11. Best advise so far, why even use a helmet at that point. But seriously, replace even if it has been dropped. Helmet prices are cheap compared to cracked skull, concussion etc.
  12. Thanks for the extra viewpoint. As I said, my wrong assumption was that the kind of people that do these distances, especially gravel and bikepacking, do not need an event to go out and ride with a group of mates without getting an org involved. I have since been educated that is not always the case. So having something official on the calender as a goal makes perfect sense to me, that is part of the reason I got my (half) Ironman entry as well, so can fully understand it. Getting friends to commit to something unofficial is like herding cats, so an event makes it official for everyone. And lastly this caught my eye as it was in the scammers thread, but there is clearly a lot of value for the people that do line up on the day, so happy that there is not some ripoff going on. Not my cup of tea, but all the best to the ones lining up. I will not be lining up as I just do not have the time or motivation to train for such distances currently, but I have the biggest respect for anyone that takes this on, if you could complete it or not.
  13. Okay thanks Jewbacca and Robin for getting me closer to the answer. I though I understood that the Gravel and Bikepacking scene was built around not having to plan around "Events" and being able to do this with getting an organization involved. But it looks like this is viewed the same way I viewed my Half Ironman (still planning to do a full eventually), motivation. So if this is an event to drive a stake in the ground and commit to the challenge, that I can understand. So apologies if I was coming across as attacking the event, or the lifestyle or whatever. That was not my intention, I was just curious. And I am looking forward to read some war stories from these events. Not my cup of tea, I`ll be sipping my coffee in the other corner ☕.
  14. Clearly, And it looks like I stepped on to many toes, so let me bow out. But would still like to find out the why, but looks like this thread is not the place. Happy that there are people that believe it is good value for them. Enjoy the evening,
  15. Mike, my first was Mosselbay. I am not a good swimmer and the swim was the easy part. Pack your climing legs for both the bike and run. Good Luck!!
  16. Asumptions are dangerous, especially on the internet. I am just saying I do not understand what makes people value this highly enough to justify the entry fee. From the website I cannot see that the roads are anything but publicly availble routes. A medal, start and finish lines can be done at a lot more events. The distance with recording, start and finish without support is pretty much Audax. So what part am I missing that makes this worthwhile for the 20 odd people that do it? I do not understand,
  17. You can see for yourself on their website: https://audaxsa.co.za/entries/ Compared to the description from the Sedgefield 500 https://enter.gravalist.com/sedgefield500-wilderlands: The descriptions are very similar, so just because it is "Gravel" they charge almost 10 times the price? That is the math that does not make sense to me.
  18. Ah the GPS tracking added makes this whole lot make a lot more sense. From the website it looked like it was just some app that you needed to add on your phone, but if you are issued a device to be trackable on route, that is becoming a lot more reasonable. The CTCT comparison was more of the value for money for me, what it costs vs what is included. The price looks even worse when compared to a 600km Audax, essentially the same thing for just R200, excluding the GPS tracking.
  19. Okay, do not understand, but for those that do enjoy these events, go have your fun. Just to clear up some potential misunderstanding, I am not saying I want to do this event without paying on the day. It just seems that you are paying a substantial amount of maoney, and not getting a lot of value. Personally at almost R1000 now CTCT is already expensive, but you get closed roads, medical support, aid stations etc. This comes in at double for just a gpx file, that is the part that I do not understand. For only R200 I would rather do another Audax any day.
  20. No worries, thanks for the quick response in this thread, happy for it to be nuked or locked if that helps. Keep up the good work, really do appreciate the work that is done.
  21. A lot of the cancelations are also to make sure the lifegaurds can be on duty. I personally do not want to be standing on a paddleboard in the middle of the bay when lightning is striking nearby. Similarly some swims get shortened by having to wait for fog to clear for the lifegaurds to be able to see the swimmers. A lot goes into making sure the participants are safe.
  22. Okay makes sense, a notification with that would have been helpfull, then I would not have asked the question again in the scammers thread. Let me delete that post and see if the event organiser answers the question in the event thread. Still seems relevant to the scammer thread though, as the event seems fishy.
  23. Hi @Matt. I am a post in the scammers thread asking a question about one the previous post with links to several events. This post has just dissapeared along with others in that thread. Was there some rollback that dropped some posts this morning, or are posts just deleted without notification?
  24. So what exactly are you paying R2000 for, just a gpx file?
  25. Agreed, different ideas on price is why resellers wil exist in some way or another on most platforms. Some people are not willing to wait, and others are willing to pay the marked up prices.
