  1. I like the option of a short route being available, especially with my wife still starting out. However I do not think it is worth it to travel all the way to Cape Town just to go do the short route. So nice idea, but will rater do the short Herald tour instead with her, and get ready to do the full one eventually.
  2. Moved to PE recently, and this has great timing to introduce me to the local trails. I have done Haterdale (Actually in Addo, but still close) and Norm Hudlin so far, nothing too technical. Now I have a much bigger TODO list for the rest of December.
  3. On the streetview you can see the expansion joints running in the same direction as you would be riding, make sure to cross it at 90 degrees, like the red arrow below. Several people fell badly last year. I think there was an ambulance there with someone when I came past.
  4. It was supposed to be Maurten Gells and Gatorade Edurance drink, if the same as Mosselbay and Durban.
  5. Anyone else doing Mosselbay 70.3 this weekend? It seems like a tough cycle with all the climbing, but the time for prep is done. Nothing left but to just do it.
  6. The price on the Garmin site is about R15000. https://www.garmin.com/en-ZA/p/731136/pn/010-02503-23 . You can get it cheaper, but will have to be patient or wait for a special Like Black Friday coming up. Might just get lucky.
  7. Getting some group rides to get people used to riding with other people and the feeling of the extra speed while drafting will gain a couple of extra entries. I started doing races when I was young and stupid so did not care wat happened really. But now just being stupid and not riding in groups a while, it is quite scary to join these bigger races. Especially since indoor has made everyone fit with little skills, me included. Also traveling sucks post Covid and Kulula death. So will rather join a local races than travel to any of the bigger ones across the country. So might be worth it to focus marketing more on the locals that do not have to travel.
  8. Good luck, hope this finds a good home.
  9. If you can run 5km in 17 mins, you should have run enough to be out of points by March.
  10. Trying to watch this video
  11. They do have a "ready to ride guarantee", so would hav also been a bit pissed if the tyre is leaking. But also to be fair, their checklist does not include checking tyres 🤔
  12. What a way for Louis to make it into the top 10 😅
  13. I do moving time for most riding (This also takes care of robots I cannot skip). But for timed rides or races elapsed time definetly matters. I find that auto pausing works great for this as well, except on really steep stuff, going so slowly it pauses sometimes sucks.
  14. Yeah keeps me away for now, so looks like it is working.
  15. Thanks, I just assumed as it was not the swimming version, I should not swim with it. But a quick google inspired by your post confirmed my Tickr is waterproof up to 1.5m. Not planning to go any deeper than that so will be trying to swim with it on for the first race.
  16. Doing my first triathlon in a few weeks and need some advise. What do you do with a heart rate strap for T1? It is not a swimming one, so do not think keeping it on for the swim will work. I would like to have it on for the bike and run to help with pacing. I can just put it on the strap for the swim and click the other piece on in T1 or just take the time to put it on after the swim, just want to finish anyway. Any tricks I am missing here?
  17. I also use wahoo mainly, but have a Forerunner 35 also running just for vitality. That does not go to strava etc. Been waiting since way back for an easier way.
  18. Can you spend the miles directly without having the discovery bank aswell?
  19. All I can see is ride with a cadence of about 90, and eat a lot. Still figuring out the math for my own nutrition, but to expend 6000 to 7000 kcal, you have to eat basically the whole time, while on cobbles, climing, attacking etc.
  20. I have a cheapy hardtail that currently has Ardent 2.25" up front, with Ardent Race 2.20" at the back. Currently being used more for gravel grinding, with light trail use (nothing over blue). The problem I have is that the back tyre is a bit close to my chainstays, a bit of mud and I get some rubbing. Are there any actual available (In stock) tyres that are thinner than Ardent Race 2.20? The difference between actual and stated width on different brands are difficult to look up and test without the actual tyres. The front doe not have any clearance issues, can go up to 62 mm width, which is just more than 2.4". Will it make any difference to change to a wider tyre, or is my current plan to use up my Ardent, then fit my Ardent race okay to keep my face out of the dirt?
  21. I recently relocated close to Addo in the Eastern Cape. Without a bicycle shop or Engen nearby, I am a bit lost as to the road routes that are safe to actually ride. There are plenty of dirt road and even Hayterdale trails nearby for my MTB, so that should be fine. Does anyone know which roads or even just directions that are fine to ride? Or if there are any groups nearby? Driving around and checking on strava looks like Kirkwood and back might be my best option for now.
  22. Fair enough, seems some people do know them, but just from the website I would not use them for any amount I am not okay with losing to test it out. Not a big risk taker when it comes to these things.
  23. This does not inspire much confidence :
  24. The single review looks positive, I just have my doubts on how they will perform in the wet or in my case sweaty hands, the pattern looks quite smooth. But this is takealot, the returns should be painless if they are not up to scratch.
