  1. Okay thanks Jewbacca and Robin for getting me closer to the answer. I though I understood that the Gravel and Bikepacking scene was built around not having to plan around "Events" and being able to do this with getting an organization involved. But it looks like this is viewed the same way I viewed my Half Ironman (still planning to do a full eventually), motivation. So if this is an event to drive a stake in the ground and commit to the challenge, that I can understand. So apologies if I was coming across as attacking the event, or the lifestyle or whatever. That was not my intention, I was just curious. And I am looking forward to read some war stories from these events. Not my cup of tea, I`ll be sipping my coffee in the other corner ☕.
  2. Clearly, And it looks like I stepped on to many toes, so let me bow out. But would still like to find out the why, but looks like this thread is not the place. Happy that there are people that believe it is good value for them. Enjoy the evening,
  3. Mike, my first was Mosselbay. I am not a good swimmer and the swim was the easy part. Pack your climing legs for both the bike and run. Good Luck!!
  4. Asumptions are dangerous, especially on the internet. I am just saying I do not understand what makes people value this highly enough to justify the entry fee. From the website I cannot see that the roads are anything but publicly availble routes. A medal, start and finish lines can be done at a lot more events. The distance with recording, start and finish without support is pretty much Audax. So what part am I missing that makes this worthwhile for the 20 odd people that do it? I do not understand,
  5. You can see for yourself on their website: https://audaxsa.co.za/entries/ Compared to the description from the Sedgefield 500 https://enter.gravalist.com/sedgefield500-wilderlands: The descriptions are very similar, so just because it is "Gravel" they charge almost 10 times the price? That is the math that does not make sense to me.
  6. Ah the GPS tracking added makes this whole lot make a lot more sense. From the website it looked like it was just some app that you needed to add on your phone, but if you are issued a device to be trackable on route, that is becoming a lot more reasonable. The CTCT comparison was more of the value for money for me, what it costs vs what is included. The price looks even worse when compared to a 600km Audax, essentially the same thing for just R200, excluding the GPS tracking.
  7. Okay, do not understand, but for those that do enjoy these events, go have your fun. Just to clear up some potential misunderstanding, I am not saying I want to do this event without paying on the day. It just seems that you are paying a substantial amount of maoney, and not getting a lot of value. Personally at almost R1000 now CTCT is already expensive, but you get closed roads, medical support, aid stations etc. This comes in at double for just a gpx file, that is the part that I do not understand. For only R200 I would rather do another Audax any day.
  8. No worries, thanks for the quick response in this thread, happy for it to be nuked or locked if that helps. Keep up the good work, really do appreciate the work that is done.
  9. A lot of the cancelations are also to make sure the lifegaurds can be on duty. I personally do not want to be standing on a paddleboard in the middle of the bay when lightning is striking nearby. Similarly some swims get shortened by having to wait for fog to clear for the lifegaurds to be able to see the swimmers. A lot goes into making sure the participants are safe.
  10. Okay makes sense, a notification with that would have been helpfull, then I would not have asked the question again in the scammers thread. Let me delete that post and see if the event organiser answers the question in the event thread. Still seems relevant to the scammer thread though, as the event seems fishy.
  11. Hi @Matt. I am a post in the scammers thread asking a question about one the previous post with links to several events. This post has just dissapeared along with others in that thread. Was there some rollback that dropped some posts this morning, or are posts just deleted without notification?
  12. So what exactly are you paying R2000 for, just a gpx file?
  13. Agreed, different ideas on price is why resellers wil exist in some way or another on most platforms. Some people are not willing to wait, and others are willing to pay the marked up prices.
  14. So the reseller is taking the risk of the stock sitting for a while, and putting their markup as the premium for taking on that risk? For some of these examples that has been a bit steep to me. But people value money differently, especially around hobbies.
  15. This is what got me thinking about how I can do it better. Soft brush and Garden Spray bottle already seem like good additions to my bucket routine for the road bike, leaving the hosepipe and harder brush for when I play in the mud with my MTB.
  16. With water becoming a problem in several parts of our country, what are some ways that a proper bike wash can be done while wasting as little as possible water? Some questions that I have been trying to figure out, and would like to find out the "HUB wisdom" on: How ofter to wash the bike? (after every ride, when visibly dirty, when it starts making crunchy noises) Different techniques or methods that can be used? (pressure wash, hosepipe, bucket and sponge) Products that work well with little water? (sunlight vs expensive bike cleaners) Any difference between different bikes? (Dry road ride vs muddy MTD fun) Any other ideas, tips or videos? We recently got a warning in PE to boil the water before drinking as the dam levels are now so low that extra untreated water needs to be added to the system. So I am trying to find a balance between not wasting water and not destroying my bikes with lack of care.
  17. Flat wheel?
  18. Might have you squeeling on any downhill,
  19. Am in PE, so will be doing the short road version, have not done any races for a while so easing into it again.
  20. Mmm, now I have a target for my "junk miles" rides down the coast. Should be able to get to 75 soonish, after that it starts getting to a lot of rides to go up.
  21. As I understand, it is jut panels and electrical work, no extra plumbing needed as with the other options. Considering as one of my options as well.
  22. Sounds a lot like connection issues? What are you connecting to for calibration? And what are you using for the workouts (laptop, phone, software, dongles)?
  23. Sure, send a PM and I can see if I can help you out.
  24. Not the best numbers I have had, but included two moves and a 70.3 finish. So not happy with the numbers, but happy with the results. Now that everything has settled a bit, I can set a nice target for next year. Still busy resting now.
  25. From the leisure island beaches you can do a nice and long swim in high tide, the water is shallow enough to stand in and was nice and calm for swimming. Not sure about the deeper waters or elsewhere in the lagoon. I would assume there are shipping lanes to avoid but anymore a local should be able to help. You can laso check if the Knysna extreme tri course is available normally: https://www.knysnaextreme.co.za/thecourse
