  1. So having only ever had fat-tyre bikes, and therefore knowing less than nothing about road bikes -would those who venture on both sides of the Force be kind enough to share some thoughts on the following: I already have v-brakes ( as opposed to canti's) set up on the bike - would these be compatible with road levers? In other words, if I went the whole hog of buying the off-road dropbars, and then were looking at getting the road brake levers, would they work with each other? Assuming this to be the case, what model in the roadie world, would be similar to LX / SLX / XT? Don't want to break the bank - just want something solid and dependable... And then lastly - assuming I ran it as a singlespeed - and therefore do not require gears, would this impact on the type of levers one chooses? Do they all come out as integrated systems now, or can you still get those that only brake - or doesn't it really matter? Apologies for the hi-jack(?) - but hopefully others will also find the answers to the above useful...
  2. Ha - all been there, at some point. Yip - be velly velly careful with the seatpost, especially if (like me) you are big-boned! We naturally produce so much power that failure of the ugly kind becomes a real possibility if the seatpost doesn't have enough in the tube... Get the bike down to your lbs - they'll very quickly be able to tell you if you're running one too small... Good luck!
  3. [facepalm] So Mike it is, then....
  4. Seriously? It's like his 3rd of 4th name, right? I mean, who would do that to his son (he called me Sue)... Then again - who exactly would teaze him?
  5. Cool! What did you end up doing?
  6. It friggin' mows the lawn as well!!!! WOW!
  7. That's a beaut.... What fork is that?
  8. Or try and figure out what the clamp size is of the front der... [Aahhh - don't have the bike with you? Phone your a dealer?]
  9. Good news! Thanks for the heads-up!
  10. I've been mulling over it for ages - and with Xmas around the corner, figured I could take the plunge... Nothing even remotely fancy - but figured I would see how it goes when I replace this:- with this Gusset Jury SL Trials fork.... Should be here in the next few days.... will drop down a few lines once I've given her a go... Happy days. [Edit: Customs clearance paid today. Hopefully will have it in my hands tomorrow. ]
  11. Awesome clip - thanks!
  12. Pics would no doubt help things...
  13. That's a beast RW - decals on the fork and seatpost?
  14. That Sir, is a mighty fine job. Pls be sure to pop up pics of the final product!
  15. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I used to play around in the singletrack warren at the bottom of where the DH guys ride, below the Taalmonument - until one morning, coming round the bend where many of them cross over the tar - I saw a Geelslang, sailing off the road... The screen grab from Google Earth doesn't really do justice to the distance from the yellow line to the culvert on the side of the road there, but it's head was through that culvert and coming up the other side, and its tail had not yet finished crossing the yellow line... It gracefully slid off down the singletrack to the left - and I have never been back in there... It was an absolute monster of a snake - and beautiful too...
  16. Very tempted to go this route on my old Ti frame, that I'm currently running as a SS... It's a matt finish, so rather dull - half & half might just bring it to life... I see a fair bit of time being spent on googling "Painting Titanium" in the not too-distant future...
  17. Haven't had a chance to see it yet - but will certainly do so. Will try and not build up any expectations, which is possibly what ruined Darjeeling Express for me. Uhm - ok - actually Darjeeling was ruined because it was crap! Hope I'm pleasantly surprised by the new one... looking forward to it... PS - Really enjoyed the Fantastic Mr. Fox... came into its own for me, when the special features explained how they went about filming it...
  18. Some old-skool bling....
  19. There is nothing remotely awesome about this post...
  20. Thanks SB - had a look. Very interesting. Will keep my eye on it, especially the nusi.org site - much needed research possibilities there....
