  1. welcome to hub, and i'm glad to hear your back on the bike after a hectic surgery like that well from what i've seen the giant anthem 29er seems to be pretty popular also take a look at the specialized it also looks like a good bike (seeing that you already had top end bikes before) and i see scott is about to bring out there duel sus 29er range in their 2012 bikes. other then that, is all that i can think of off the top of my head, i dont own a 29er so cant really comment on what is good, is just what i have seen at races and heard about
  2. ok you managed to jump the gun before me lol
  3. i might be reading this wrong, but did he want you to post the bike or personally deliver it? if posting was asked, then just wait for the money to reflect in your account before posting? safest bet (can even confirm with bank), or if it is a delivery case then ask for cash in hand?
  4. you know i find that most fake websites have the downfall of not allowing one to select size of bike, but just quantity. this one on the other hand has had some thought put into it and is well done
  5. no i'd say slightly bigger than the picture above, and weight on the scale as one usually see's with bike parts was a gram or two over advertised price.
  6. this is a shot in the dark as i hear lots of people took short cuts over the weekend and i did the full route, so probably only half the riders may have passed it
  7. hmmm now that the pump story is sorted out. no one saw my energy bar along the route think it might have fallen out of my camelbak have attached a image if anyone has seen it
  8. oh ok thanks for the info, then the intent was there to give it back which i'm cool with i didn't hang around for ages after as i've now come down with the cold and was feeling quite poo at the finish line. so yeah.
  9. wow thats not cool, the site used to be totally free last time i checked
  10. give this site a go, i find the video's pretty good and informative. do all the work on my own bike from watching you-tube video's and sites like this http://www.bicycletutor.com/
  11. OH BOY. here we go one can never say that you dont get some interesting comments/ people here on hub.
  12. yip it pretty much does seem like those threads lol, but thought it would be worth a try anyway
  13. I know this is a shot in the dark, i did the 70km hazeldean this weekend and lent my pump to a guy along the route on the 70km for a mate who had a slow puncture along the route, so lent it to him, and he said he'd meet me at the finish, so thought what the hell knew i probably wouldn't see the pump again (wasn't anything fancy) so if your on the hub, it would be nice to get it back. but if not oh well Ok Sorted thanks, was handed to organizers but wasn't around as was feeling sick but for the effort on getting it back unknown rider
  14. well from what i've read here on hub your should try upgrade your components roughly in the order if your wanting to upgrade and get the better performance enhancement 1-fork 2-wheels 3-brakes 4-shifters 5- then weight saving stuff like derailers, seatposts, pedals etc. but if you can afford it generally it works out cheaper to sell and buy a better spec bike as one generally upgrades everything then. but if your planing to do it slowly over time then go for items you think will make the biggest difference first of what you can afford that will make a bigger difference. ie: dont go spend like R1000 on a stem when you could use the money rather to get better brakes etc.
  15. yes i get the idea
  16. ok cool, but how does one enter i cant seem to see any links on the page?
  17. hmm then i might be over tightening them then, i always assumed one wanted no play, as play is what lead to ball bearing damage (from what i understood), i always tightened to the extent where they had no play, but rolled smoothly without resistance, didnt know you need a slight bit of play before putting them back on the bike and no play after.
  18. ok cool, I'll send you a PM thank you very much for the help Brad
  19. yeah i know that, and i make sure the hubs are always running sooth and are greased, i do it myself its a 5-10min job per wheel and is easy peasy. just the ball bearings themselves dont seem to last, its almost like they flake apart like a jaw breaker with its different layers and turn square per say
  20. no i dont even own one, i'm talking about the bike wash after an event
  21. hi Johan thank you for the reply, in terms of which xt hubs i've got, i've got the M756 hubs, have attached photo's. i do notice though that if the bike gets washed with a pressure spray i always have to re-grease the rear hub as water always gets in by the freehub. if i where to get new hubs what brand and make would you recommend, seeing that your the wheel guru here on hub and see there strengths and weaknesses when you service them. and my last question in terms of the ball bearings would i be able to get some through you, i really dont mind paying postage etc. will happily do a eft if you keep them in stock, otherwise will do a bit of phoning around to track some down.
  22. Yes I'm making sure, following the tec documents to the tee, in terms of what ball bearings and how many goes into each side
  23. i went that route last time, and these are the bearings that are turning square, although i must admit it was richards bay lol. but will pop round to the LBS here in pretoria and get some as a for now fix for the coming weekend. but would prefer to get some high grade bearings if one does get higher grade ball bearings? which i'm sure one must, i dont mind paying a little extra for something that's going to last and not destroy my hubs
  24. please can someone help me, I'm looking for a place in pretoria that sells high quality ball bearings, as for the second time now one or two of the little ball bearings have turned to little squares in my shimano XT hubs (luckily no damage to hubs), bought the bearings about 6 months ago and make sure the hubs are serviced and greased regularly. have tire bearing man just to be told the dont keep the ball bearings i want in stock will have to order, and need some for this coming weekends nissan race so any help would be appreciated, sizes i'm looking for are 1/4" and 3/16"
  25. no you'll need the green stip, it basically forms a nice seal between the tire and the strip. All you'll need to do is slip the strip onto the rim line up the valve hole, stick in your valve. put on your tubeless tire and inflate. just a hint, use lots of soapy water to help seat the tire, but my advice would be go back to the bike store and get them to show you how to do it, and show you how to know the tire is seated properly, they shouldnt have a issue helping you seeing that you did buy the rim strips there.
