  3. makes me think of these slow motion photos i spotted on the lionman CD
  4. voted, see the number is up to 39 votes, Canada and Israel tied on 13. go SA
  5. i've just bought the wind cutters and am happy this far, still running true, will have to see what pad life is like as i have heard that they can eat pads?
  6. i've maxed out at 80km/h going down bredts nek on a MTB. but i know a bunch of guys have clocked about 120km/h on their road bikes. there was a thread about a video of a guy doing 120 on his bike, where this was discussed
  7. would not have thought about that, but now that you do mention it lol, that is a very valid point
  8. curtsy of wikipedia "In the process of red blood cell maturation, a cell undergoes a series of differentiations. The following stages 1–7 of development all occur within the bone marrow: 1.hemocytoblast a pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell 2.Common myeloid progenitor multipotent stem cell 3.unipotent stem cell 4.pronormoblast also commonly called proerythroblast or rubriblast. 5.basophilic normoblast/early normoblast also commonly called erythroblast 6.polychromatophilic normoblast/intermediate normoblast 7.orthochromatic normoblast/late normoblast - Nucleus is Expelled before becoming a reticulocyte 8.reticulocyte The cell is released from the bone marrow after stage 7, and so of circulating red blood cells there are ~1% reticulocytes. After 1–2 days these ultimately become "erythrocytes" or mature red blood cells."
  9. reason it takes a while for you to recover, is red blood cells are removed, and a while bunch more is pumped back into your blood system from bone marrow afterwards, these cells still need to mature before they are 100% functional at carrying oxygen. thats why your performance will be down a few days after donation
  10.
  11. i agree with you on this, you going to wear down your paint on the frame using a ratchet strap like they show in that video
  12. that is just crazy, i mean how the hell did he manage to ride along that cable
  13. oh so you've bought the winning lotto ticket already, they just need to draw your numbers on saturday
  14. yip sometimes we just have to accept you OLD FARTS and ignore your when i was younger comments
  15. oh boy
  16. Don't mind TNT1, take his comments for a pinch of salt, he likes to cause k@k. reason i said you could go new in hard tail is, you'd be able to get say a merida HFS300d for about 14k which leaves you with 6k to get nice shoes, cycling pants, etc. http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_za/bike/2011/34/MTB+Hardtail/MATTS+Lite+3000-D http://www.cyclefactory.co.za/bicycles/new-bicycles-from-cycle-factory.html the second link gives you a general idea of the price of some new bikes without having to go into a bike shop. but then again in second hand for 20k you'd be able to go for a duel sus, or carbon hardtail, some of the bikes they've shown above are pretty good bikes. And for your height I'd say dont go with any bike smaller then 19inches (large), i'm 1.82 and found the 19inch a little small for me but other people the same size prefer it, i personally wont ride a bike smaller then 20inch just feels funny for me.(have a 22inch frame currently). and with regards to 26" and 29" they are wheel sizes, the 29" are new to the MTB scene and just by using the search function you'll see that there is so much controversy between 26 and 29" I also found this comparison of MTB components quite nice in the beginning while learning how they are classified etc Shimano SRAM Quality level XTR X.0 Pro: Lightest strongest most efficient XT X.9 Expert: Light, strong, durable, efficient LX X.7 Sport: Strong, durable reliable Deore X.5 Sport: Strong reliable Alivio X.4 Recreational Acera X.3 Altus Entry level hope that helps a little to clarify things. but like i said, rather ask a friend who has been cycling for a while to help you out and look at bikes.
  17. i recon the best bet in this situation would be, find a bike you think is nice and worth the money, the chat to your friends already in the sport and ask them what they think about the components etc. but for 20k your should be able to get a pretty decent bike new, especially if you are looking for a hardtail
  18. well if that goes wrong ie: hits a pot hole etc. he will definitely make it into the Darwin awards
  19. contact Karsten cycles, i know they do group MTB rides in the area, or at least they used to last time i checked.
  20. just make sure to check the local second hand shops, the bikes sometimes make their way there
  21. contact Chris at cwcycles if they have stock and your happy to pay for speed services i'm sure you'll be able to have a new one tomorrow morning or late afternoon? i mean if they can get a saddle from the cape to Mtubtuba in 24 hours , then there's a very good chance you can have it tomorrow
  22. it bight be the ball bearing in the rear hub?, i had one or two turn square in there and made like a knocking noise.
  23. let me guess ritchey single bolt carbon seatpost? or at least it happened to me, i ended up selling the seatpost and getting one with micro-adjust (nuke proof post) rather, and since have had no problems with my saddle changing tilt during a ride.
  24. must agree i've also been using one for about 2 months now, and am very happy, used to battle hectically with sweat dripping onto the lenses of my sunglasses and blurring my vision. with the gutr it is all gone, did take about a week or two to get used to but now, i don't ride without it.
  25. now for the big question Price?
