  1. Some one asked my what (race) I'm training for, after seeing some intense rides on Strava. I said "I'm not training for anything". They then asked why I'm doing those workouts if I'm not training for anything. "I enjoy it, and I need to be-prepared..." and then I have to Google a quote that I keep forgetting the exact words... “The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable prerequisite for success.” – Brian Tracy
  2. As an active cyclist, if motivation is needed to ride a bike, then something else is wrong that needs addressing. Best find out what that something is, and address it in which ever way removes the need for motivation.
  3. I'm the opposite, in that I would leave the office at 15:00, or if it was a work from home day, it allowed me to jump on a bike at 16:00, or by 17:00 latest. Now that's it's back to the office, full time (and full days), I might have to revert to mornings before dropping the girls at school. Will see how things pan out first before making the big shift back to mornings.
  4. The three answers to your question are: no, no and it depends. 1. What is your definition maintaining current form? Or rather, what is your definition of “form”? Once you’ve defined it, then you can see how to measure it. Is it form, as in TSB, or a physical condition like in form to race, or something else. 2. Your goals are “your” goals, not someone else’s. If you define it and own it, then you might need help setting process/step goals to help you get to your desired outcome. I would agree that finishing the CTCT and 947 comfortably could be a bit vague. Finishing with the start group is a little more specific, as it allows you to start in a group you feel comfortable to ride with. As for a comment on distance, it can be a dangerous metric. Chasing miles can be fatiguing, just for the sake of getting there at all costs. Speed can vary, especially now that you’re riding with a group as opposed to on your own, so you might be able to achieve the 10k total mileage with less hours/rides. But it can be an applicable goal, eg. I want to do 100 imperial mile rides by the end of 2029 (an Eddington score of 100; in miles). I was on 36 at the end of 2024, so 64 means 13 per year, or one every 4 weeks, as a way to spread it out and make it achievable. So every year, I have a review of where I am and what adjustment I need to do to get there. Would I have failed if I only get there in 2030? No, the goal is 100 rides of 100+ miles. As for motivation, my tips are: - find, and do, things that are enjoyable. - stop doing it before boredom sets in. This way it’s like an “addiction” but without the need to keep doing it. - write it down, and have a way to show progress. I’ve shared two of my visual charts showing progress on some goals. 100 imperial miles - automatically updates after each ride, using the Intervals APi. The challenge I set my daughters to complete the Versus Back to Base running challenge. They walked/hiked and ran 50km while on holiday last year, so I asked them if they wanted to do it “officially” this year. For my older daughter, she fell in love with cross country at school, so this is part of her conditioning for netball and cross country this year.
  5. Pretty much the same as me, which was (for me) 12 years ago (next month). I’m sure I posted the x-ray somewhere on here previously. Edit: found the photo in a post from 2016

    Bike Fit

Richard Baxter used to operate from Dunkeld, Mellow Velo and Finishline Cycles; I assume they’ve taken over as standalone figment centres?
  7. Slightly means exactly that… minimal force; I used too much force and they broke off. The unit was so old (2017) that 4iiii said it’s no longer serviceable, with an error 20 code (I think it was). I could never calibrate it.
  8. Opening ride for 2025; adding to the eddington mile score 37/100
  9. Final activity for the year… an easy-ish coffee ride, before breakfast with my brother (before he returns to the UK). Another fine year of riding. All the best for the new year.
  10. Ride 4
  11. 100% agree
  12. Festive500, day 3; “a bit of the East”. 87.8% complete. Some rain, coffee and kwasonts, awesome company, and some good legs.
  13. Day 5, Ride 3
  14. Did someone say empty roads? Festive500, day 2; “up north”. 55.56% complete. Some hills, awesome views of Jozi, and some more hills. The queen stage
  15. Day 3, ride 2
  16. Facebook video of his finish. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/19tnHpaap1/?mibextid=wwXIfr
  17. I’ve never purchased the same helmet brand twice. The current one is a MET and it’s the best fitting one yet. The Lazer and MET have MIPS, while the Giro, Bell, Garneau, Rudy Project and others were all just regular lids.
  18. I have a triple century planned, for 2025, possibly on a 5.2km loop. Edit: not for the Festive500, but just a long ride (some time) in 2025.
  19. I’ve done 100km with the pace partner group, and it’s about a 2:40 ride time. There might be a few coffee breaks in there too. i see two Saffas did 400km together.
  20. Compared to these mal mense?
  21. Day 1, ride 1
  22. Festive500, day 1; “the souf”. 32% complete. Forecast showed mostly cloudy, some rain, minimal wind and moderate temperatures. We had some sunshine, stronger than anticipated winds, no rain and some humid conditions. Better than being at work.
  23. Looks like your world has been turned upside-down... 🤣
  24. Course files loading; it’s not 32°C currently.
