  1. For those that haven't read the MyWhoosh thread yet, I started using Biketerra.com last week. It's currently offered as a free version and a $5/mo option. Nothing graphic-wise to write home about, but it works directly with a few platforms.
  2. Not as slow as him https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBZIDnesjw7/?igsh=MWpsMGRtN3o4ZTMwcA==
  3. First ride, outside, on the bike that has been used exclusively for indoor workouts; as far back as the pandemic.
  4. Finding the optimal route to the start of the fun ride world champs (highveld edition) started this morning.
  5. With the image posted, I agree; it doesn't indicate what road you're on. In that specific case, it's impossible to turn in another other direction other than follow the road to the left (onto the freeway), for normal law-abiding citizens. The official freeway sign (assuming it hasn't been removed) starts on the drag after the on-ramp has merged on the freeway, as the road prior gives users an opportunity to turn left, off the non-freeway road.
  6. Similar situation on the N2 at Somerset West; it's a freeway from Cape Town to the R43 offramp. After the offamp, there's a green sign board. It's no longer freeway for a very long distance. Are cyclists allowed on Sir Lowry's Pass? Not talking about whether it's safe or not, but whether it's allowed. I've cycled on the N2 between Grabouw and the turn towards Villiersdorp just after Botrivier.
  7. I've been using BikeTerra this week, which allows gpx routes to be uploaded; Rouvy used to offer this, and stopped the upload of custom routes). Nothing wrong with indieVelo, but I do like the idea (when needed) of doing some intervals on route specific segments. It integrates with TrainerDay, Athletica and Intervals.icu (training plans/workouts), as well as a Strava upload for completed rides. It's web-based, so any device that has a browser and Ant+/BLE connections can run it. Not the prettiest graphics, but it's free or $5/month. Free allows 1 upload (and 4 revisions) per month $5 allows a lot more. This is the second half of the highveld edition of the fun ride world champs.
  8. Is this the section of the N14 that is being questioned? The green sign would indicate that it is not a freeway. And these signs would indicate that turning left (the only option) is onto a freeway. Here is the start of the freeway (officially),above. The end of the freeway (from PTA to Cradlestone), below, so the "offramp" is not freeway.
  9. N indicates it’s a national road, and runs across multiple provinces. R indicates it’s a regional road, in one province. M indicates it’s a metro road and goes across multiple towns in a metro (JhB, Ekurhuleni). A freeway doesn’t have to be a N only, it can also be R or M. Cyclists and Pedestrians are not allowed on a freeway.
  10. I supported him for many years, until my girls were born, and when he moved out of Bedford Centre (BC). It was very convenient to get something when shopping at BC. Also bumped into Derek, his trusty side-kick at the shop, when I went to get coffee (beans) from my local roaster. #memories
  11. No offence taken, was a less serious response (italics are meant to mean the same as the comic sans font). 😁
  12. Seriously though, the route through SBR is not any worse than any public road. The risk remains with the rider choosing to ride at high speed vs a slower & cautious speed. I guess riding there helps with route knowledge, knowing when to ease up vs going all out. If it was my first time, I would approach the blind corners with some caution. The organiser perhaps needs to rethink an alternative start/finish, to avoid sharing the R42 with high speed traffic.
  13. Given that we no longer organise a race, we don’t have to be feel offended being bundled with “all” organisers. 😊
  14. Another indoor training app, this one a web based version with direct integration to/from Intervals (icu), Athletica, TrainerDay or a ZWO file import. Biketerra.com - no app needed. The free versions allow 1 route upload per month, with 4 edits. I've done two workouts on a local race route. Lousy graphics, but who cares when the custom route is available, like Rouvy was a few years ago.
  15. An oxymoron, if ever there was one... the first two words on red sign
  16. FinishTime did indeed time 2021 (first year with Faces timing board). They changed to PeakTiming in 2022, 2023 and will be using them again this year. As I said, the board can be read by more than one timing company.
  17. Both devices can be read by the timing companies. CTCT uses FinishTime 947 uses Peak Timing Two different businesses.
  18. It is silly, but what can we do? The problem comes in that all timing board details are pre-loaded in the timing database (that would be Peak Timing, not FinishTime like in 2021). If they didn't do that, then anyone could just pitch up and get a free time. They didn't charge anyone in the first year, only the subsequent years, so it's not a financial loss for anyone that still has their board (and rubber mount). Back to the old WinningTime vs ChampionChip battle. From their website...
  19. Both CTCT and old racetec timed events use the same boards.
  20. Answer: you have to use their board. Reason: while it would be able to be used, they link the timing board numbers to the list of starters. If your timing board is not pre-registered, it won’t show up as a participant.
  21. A chilled ride, mostly, around the hillier bergs of Jozi south. Another cracking day, and not as hot as last week.

  23. My Polar (H10) strap was replaced after 18 months. A new strap for less than R500 (the soft one, not the original) and everything works like it should. These things (straps) don't last forever, so consider a new strap.
  24. How old is the strap? You don't mention that in your post. Might be time for a new one, which is much cheaper than buying a new HRM.
