  1. I’ve done 21, and I also have a white bib, with black text. It’s (not) the end of world as we know it, and I feel fine.
  2. It’s about the same as last year… number entries that is. It hasn’t been north of 20k entries, since before the pandemic.
  3. 11585 people listed on the start list.
  4. My first MTB was the 26” wheel version of this same model, and I still have it. In 2007 I paid R5k, so 17years later at R12k for a bigger wheel version, the new bike price has aged well (8.5% inflation per year compared to higher spec bikes.
  5. The wife says I shouldn't be so critical of bad coffee (aka dirty dish water). However, after watching the Cafe Ride with Matt Stephens (interviewing Pogacar, I like his description of bad coffee... scroll to 27:00 to hear it. Best thing about this coffee was cup.
  6. Getting lost is not a waste of time. To travel is to evolve. ~ Pierre Bernard
  7. Rain 🌧️ and 🌩️stopped play
  8. The 90 days is written into the consumer protection act. Any item repaired must be guaranteed for 3 months.
  9. A car has a limited warranty, and thereafter repairs are for the consumer’s account.
  10. Good luck; most will not honour option iii, if they can bail out with option i and ii saying that they haven't breached the warranty.
  11. Obviously, the Tacx has a 2-year warranty (as listed on their site, so the 1 year in bold above should say 2 years.
  12. This is on their website: If during the warranty period you submit a claim for warranty service in accordance with this Limited Warranty, then Garmin will, at its option: (i) repair the device using new parts or previously used parts that satisfy Garmin’s quality standards, (ii) replace the device with a new device or a refurbished device that meets Garmin’s quality standards, or (iii) exchange the device for a full refund of your purchase price. SUCH REMEDY SHALL BE YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR ANY BREACH OF WARRANTY. Repaired or replaced devices have a 90 day warranty. If the unit sent in is still under its original warranty, then the new warranty is 90 days or to the end of the original 1 year warranty, whichever is longer.
  13. The CPA states that they (manufacturer/distributor) can attempt to repair first, before replacing, before refunding. You can't demand that they replace it, and/or refund, as they have the option to repair first. If there are repeated problems (inside the warranty period) requiring repeated repairs, then you might have a case for a replacement and/or a refund (if you have a good laywer to assist. The CPA not as one-sided as the consumer thinks. I'm currently in a battle with a company were the machine has a 2y warranty, plus the retailer's extended warranty, and they say that it's working each time I take it back. I'm fighting that it's not working as intended. The extended warranty says 6 years (3+3) but the original factory warranty is 2y for this specific appliance, and not 3 as the retailer stated. Until those 4-6 years are up, I'll keep going back to have it repaired at the manufacturer and retailer's expense. A bit of a schlep, but the brand/manufacturer has lost any future business from me once the warranty period is up.
  14. In your example, if a replacement is issued on 01 December 2024 (1 month left), then the 90-days (minimum by law) would apply, extending it to 28February 2025. Otherwise, the ORIGINAL WARRANTY PERIOD applies (2 years).
  15. Here's last year's GPX route for the MTB. 947_ride_Joburg_Mtb_.gpx
  16. Sorry didn't read the thread title... just saw the post above with epic weather.
  17. I’m not talking Elite, but a semi-serious, open-seeded rider sitting in the bunch.
  18. Compare that to the weather from Intervals, icu If you ask the forecasters to predict what happened yesterday, they'll still get it wrong.
  19. Drop daughter at dance class, then go for a ride before meeting back at the dance studio.
  20. Energade has 5g of carbs per 100ml, or 50g per litre. Coke has 8g carbs per 100ml, or 80g per litre. Think about how much you have to drink (fluids) to get sufficient energy in). 32GI RacePro can get 10 scoops in a single bottle (700ml). That works out to 180g in a 700ml bottle. Disclaimer: I'm not trying to sell/promote 32GI, but you asked what alternatives are available. Some drinks can pack in more energy without having to drink copious amounts of fluid to get the same volume of carbs. This is where 32GI, although very expensive, can be used as a single bottle feed. I wouldn't drink it all the time, but rather on long rides where carrying the kitchen sink is not an option. It's easier to carry 10 scoops in a zip-lock bag and fill up with water at a garage than trying to carry all those carbs in back pockets and top-tube bags.
  21. Racing snakes on a 2.5 hour race might average 220W. That's 1,980 kJ of work (792/hour) A slower rider doing the same race, in 4 hours might average 140W. That's 2,016 kJ of work (504/hour) Note: it's a conservative estimate of numbers, but proves a point that work, measured in kilojoules or watts per second, can almost be the same for two completely different riders. The total energy expended (mechnical output). They both do a similar amount of work even though the variables are/will be different. The faster rider will need to expend more kJ/hour over shorter duration, while the slower rider will expend but over a longer duration. Replacing it could be the same in volume (total carbs or kcal).

  23. I went out last year, after racing “lap 1” to meet up with friends at the top of Jan Smuts. I left the Team Vitality hospitality area at 09:03 and recorded an average temp of 33°C and a high of 38°C. Got home just before 13:00.
