  1. the salesmen was thinking "boet as jy die fiets breuk gaan jy vir betaal" but was a little worried about implementing his thoughts consider the armed onlookers
  2. If you become cycling mates with Malema imagine the potential perks i.e. support vehicles with blue lights, free spares, refreshments on demand, armed guards, no worrying about bike jackers .... to hell with playing golf lets go cycling with Malema. I was reading the paper over the weekend and there were a few pics of him over the years and he really does look rather porky of late.
  3. hometime 2.5 hrs to go !
  4. I think it has its merits. I was doing a 1.5 km swim in about 37 mins (open water tri race) with normal workouts - my swim sessions consisted of 3 * 1.5 hour sessions a week of about 3km per session. Then came the new coach. The program looked like this 3 * 40min sessions a week of about 1-1.5km per session. The difference being that in the revised sessions we concentrated purely on form and high intensity sprint work. 4 weeks later at Sun City I reduced my 37 mins to 30 mins.
  5. 2nd hand. you not gonna get much for 5-6k new. but could definitely get a fairly ok used bike. plenty out there.
  6. One of my favorite song's by Judas Priest "Breaking the law" .... number plates suck catch me if you can .... ok ok before you all beat me to death I'm joking ... seriously !
  7. Heat has a big effect. When doing brick sessions I always try to do as many runs as is possible late in the day to simulate the real thing. The more you get used to it the better you handle it. Still sucks big time though. I find everything slows down in the heat. I started 94.7 in 2010 at about 10h30 boy was it hot and what a shocker of a result compared to my 07h30 start in 2011. Completely different results. When you jump into the oven for the first time its gonna come as a hell of a shock.
  8. At my age the podium is something for the youngsters so I prefer a bit of tea party. The best part of a triathlon is the swim and run section up close, personal and the run can be very sociable. As for the cycle leg YUCK. I cant think of anything worse than spending 6 hours on training cycle on a Sunday on your own ????
  9. I see no problem at all with 2 riders next to each other the only thing that will happen is you gonna have a general chit chat a chuckle at the dudes in the Peleton and worst case if you laugh enough you might just crash into each other.
  10. The problem with the non drafting rules is it gets kinda lonely out there on the road. If I do 70.3 this means I am gonna be cycling for 3h20 at least. Full would take me 7h ... all that time checking out some oke's butt 10m in front of me. hmmm not much fun. These days you cant even wear an ipod anymore so the only thing you gonna hear is a ref passing you by, seagulls or the guy in front of you grunting. The one thing I really like about normal cycle races etc it gets really interesting in the bunch oke's passing comments telling jokes etc etc its really quite a different experience.
  11. Hmmm how do I spell that work again Bio .... Ok so how about telling us some more about Biokinetics and why we should consider seeing one.
  12. i get cramps when 1. dont take my vitamens, including magnesium, on a regular basis 2. have been slacking for a while and then overdo things
  13. Theres 2 deals on groupon today. 1 for a datadot to secure your bicycle and another for a voucher Pay R99 for R200 from buycycle. So my thoughts are: 1. The datadot technology is fine to mark your bike and its many components but what stops a thief selling the bicycle to me or you ? how are we going to check these datadots. Not sure about this deal. 2. The pay R99 for R200 voucher sounds cool as long as we are not restricted to "selected goods" which I cannot see in the fine print so cool you get R100 off on any purchase. Think basically you gonna get your shipping free.
  14. "final race" sounds rather final. what follows final lad ?
  15. maybe these motorists bought their drivers licenses in lucky packets and have yet to recognize cycle only lanes. red possibly in their eyes means stop, pause, curse at the other drivers who are stopped and then proceed with due haste
  16. well i must say the last triathlon i was doing i was simply amazed at how much kit is turfed. if i was not going for a personal best and i had time i would have needed a very large bag to put all the tubes, co2 bombs, tools, pumps, water bottles not too mention a few used sachets. i could probably make a nice tidy profit selling the stuff back to the owners afterwards.
  17. i've see many commuters riding their bicycles in the opposite direction to the traffic on beyers naude. personaly i ride with the flow and run against. a pair of eyes at the back of my head would be great
  18. must agree here. I am earning about the same today as I was 8 years ago, lets not even consider the fact that expenses have greatly increased since then. things for the priviledged few have definitely improved (top black elite) as for the rest of us we got to make room for the priviledged few. If the race entries were all R300 a pop i would enter every race. At R600 a pop not a chance. I have definitely swung from triathlons to running races simply because of cost.
  19. Lets hope global11 get the timing system right. The race at sun city as far as results go was a fail.
  20. eish would love too but quite a drive ...
  21. If the girls are'nt taking part then neither am I
  22. Must agree. On my budget I have to choose races carefully. The last weekend at Bela Bela cost me around R5k all-in-all family included.
  23. Must agree with a few comments in this thread. My opinion is that the general "state of the nation" is very poor especially when it comes to roads and the people who use them. The biggest problems being we have become totally intolerant of other road users, we race around like the world is coming to an end, we have complete disdain for the law. No one cares. Everyone just wants to get somewhere 10 minutes faster without a care of the people around them. This includes all of us motorists, runners, cyclists, motorcyclists, walkers, pedestrians the whole damn lot. We buy our drivers licenses ? WTF ? It all started in and around 1994 ....... and has spread like a cancer and continues to comsume us.
  24. Nothing quite like Ice cold water and the jingle of ice cubes in your hydration pack after 3+ hours of mountain biking and you still got a way to go ....
  25. I quote "The cyclist denied any wrong doing" again why even mention the word cyclist .... people gonna whip out a tar brush and give us all a make over
