  1. The sales person at Westdene was rather surprised when I asked him to add a knuckleduster to my cart of cycling goodies the other day. When I read articles like this I know why I feel the need to
  2. Ironman can be a rather lonely experience especially when it comes to training in Jozi. I suggest hooking up with the folks at Jozi multisport http://www.jozimultisport.org/ at Emmerentia otherwise theres a running group that start off at the garage at Boskruin 5am during the week. Theres also the cycling dudes that you can hook up with on republic and braam fischer just after 5am. They start somewhere else but you can wait for them there. Just be ready to fly these guys dont mess about. Weekends hook up with a bunch who are going crazy and do your thing. Best of luck with your ironman training.
  3. The problem with Triathlon is the letters "TRI" the second that is mentioned in any product the price jumps up 3* what it should be. Having said that the other problem is that triathlon in SA is a growing sport but still not where it needs to be. So its up to economics limited demand high prices. Point is no shop can afford to concentrate only on triathlon you got to aim at a much broader market in order to ensure required turnover to pay tax, rent, salaries and hopefully some back pocket money for the owner. The broader market is cycling in general road and MTB. So NO is the answer its all economics.
  4. Hmmm think I'll stick to the northern suburbs and the west rand otherwise I might just get a SNOTKLAP
  5. Just make sure the "Enter Here" button works on the 16th
  6. Looks like the same chic who run me over in London
  7. I am a Nedbank client and that kinda looks like what gets generated when you make a payment BUT I would tell the guy to simply wait. When the funds have cleared then you post. NOT before. Its easy to make up an image like that using paint or other.
  8. I find that pool swimming and open water swimming especially during races are 2 completely different animals. What is good for the one is not necessarily good for the other. I really cant imagine how breathing in the pocket is going to work very well during iron man or any sea swim unless the water is calm. You will be surprised to note just how much those heads popup to see and breathe during a ocean race.even the pros do it. They just do it better than I do.
  9. international mail centre number is 0119616006
  10. Gee wiz what a question - THE NEW ONE !!
  11. I saw a dude ride into the back of a taxi recently on Hendrick Potgieter. I really thought the worst was going to happen but fortunately he was not going very fast and did not get hurt but he did admit afterwards he was not looking in front of him. We had a good chuckle afterwards.
  12. Must agree there seems to be a plague of these "massive jerks" on 2 wheels these days. Went cycling on Saturday could not believe my eye's. I thought roadies had bad attitudes but sadly I see this has extended to MTB as well. Tis the "new" SA. Respect ?
  13. Yes dont forget the swimming. I stopped swimming about 6 weeks ago concentrating on running and cycling. Went swimming yesterday EEIISSHHHHH it was no joke. I spent 40 long arduous minutes in the pool. Felt like a first timer .... and so slow !!!!
  14. this is a real bummer I know the feeling well. i am currently trying to get back to fitness level this time last year. i ran a 21k this last weekend 2h23 not cool last year this time I was trying to crack a sub 2 best to listen dude otherwise we gonna be doing a RIP and we dont want that
  15. Very sad indeed. Infuriating is the R5000 bail for murdering someone. Why not R500K ? Clearly the lack of law enforcement seems to be a major problem in Secunda and every where else. Sadly a very believable situation where we as tax payers are failed yet again by a government who simply dont care.
  16. I love doing my own bike maintenance. It is a bit of a learning curve and it takes time to build up a nice set of tools. Can be a bit scary at times especially when doing things the first time but if you got Google, the HUB, some cycling mates its actually easy.
  17. I ride XT crank with X7 shifters and derailleurs. I think if you are not strapped for cash I would just do complete XT but otherwise its really what you can afford.
  18. I think you have hit the nail on the head ... I live in Gauteng and might use the motorway once in 2 months same situation. Put the petrol price up and everyone pays.
  19. I have suspected this myself for quite some time now. You NEVER see them complaining about petrol prices. Same with the tolls taxis got exempted. I would really like to know if this was true. Perhaps there's a hubber out there who knows ?
  20. I saw the *** coming in 2007 already and bought a motorcycle which I use everyday. My monthly petrol bill is currently about R450 a month. It used to be about R320 some years ago.
  21. Think I am having an identity crisis here - I always thought I was a weekend warrior BUT judging from the brief by sadamhussein and the ensuing comments clearly I am not. I am also not a podium finisher .... the best I ever did was an 8th place in the old farts age group at Xterra Buffelspoort .... so what am I then ?
  22. I like ze look of Zee. Now all we need to do is check out pricing, weight and availability.
  23. Does anyone know what replacement part I can get/ use to replace my bolts on a dura ace 7700 crank for the outer chain ring. The bolt is a M8*10.5 the part number is Y-1bm 98010. Any make or color as long as it fits and works If you have one spare that would also be great !!
  24. You guys should do the Kinetic night series as well. Once a month at a different golf course. You run through the golf course and they host a 4k and 8 k run. Very well organized and very sociable. No TJOPS allowed.
  25. hhhhmmm this might be a problem "all the wheels of such pedal cycle are in contact with the surface of the road at all times" especially with some of the crazy guys I ride with
