  1. Hi did this yesterday on the gravel bike. Parking. Noble village was awesome. no charge and had some coffe afterwards. from there and back 60km Road condition. we did one side only. I pushed twice as my gearing not set up for the loos rock towards the last 2 bends. It is hard as always but caution i needed dependent on kill lvl Climb is ok with very rocky section. was more stressed coming down. lots loose bits waiting to catch you.

  3. It is sad and was also on the bucket list. But interesting is the cost that was associated. Was looking at r2ts (yes i know you cant compare) but at R1250 then you compare that to the Reits stage race that comes in at 1950 all in for 3 days. Route 66 as well. I just dont have the budget so guess will stay on bucket and it will get longer and longer Trans bav R3300 pp 360 R2500.00 CTT R1900.00 then add logistics. Like golf becoming exclusive and over priced Perhaps if i win the lotto...
  4. See that why you use a gravel bike with 700 x 45. Comfort and no rush. I do put the tt bars on but that's for them nasty Head winds. I am not to worried about how fast. and my avg time is 4-430 per 100 including stops.
  5. use on my gravel bike no issues

  7. AS a side note when i did the 400 audax that was only 19 hours total. Just a thought. only one day needed
  8. That is strange as I had same and they did mine . Two wheel trading are the guys and only had great service from them. I got my unit a few years back from Takealot. When my arms went they replaced it with the new aluminium back cover. sales3@twowheelstrading.co.za 071 850 7068
  9. AS an added note: Just did a claim for my wife's prescription glasses. No hassle, no issued, done. Again they were specified.
  10. Law of gross tonnage you always lose
  11. Sadly had the privilege of running into them on sterkies the other day. A smile and a wave would be nice. out of the group i greeted everyone and only 3 returned the greeting the rest were miserable and rude. I know sterkies is hurt locker but common courtesy to all other cyclist....even just a lifted finger. but i guess the roadie stereotype will live on.......
  12. Outsource. And have never had issues. This includes all sports equipment i owned from archery to golf. never had issues with claims. But i am honest in what happened and specified each item
  13. Also left it late this year. had to chuck in a 220 and 140 to leave me with 13 on the last day
  14. Will likely do same as last year. get it done as fast as possible over 3/4 days. 270+43+186+22 Good training for grit, audax etc etc etc etc.
  15. Up front i withdrew at 875km because my body gave in after tankwa 2019. "The race is semi-supported meaning that riders will be provided with support from race officials and at race villages, but will not be permitted to have support along the route" this issue came up before in previous races. people get family stopping a long the route with preferred food etc. I guess each on to his own. but changing things will not make it the toughest race anymore. It is what it is because of how it is structured. It takes a way from the race and the experience. I understand the marketing side etc but like many i am scared this will become the norm. outside help and support. I missed turns not because they were not visible but because i went 102 hours with out sleep and was chasing shadows. Only support we had was each other and towards the end the ER 24 Guys that as per rules had to keep a certain distance from us. Especially at night due to their lights. I missed a water point and rode for 3 hours with no water in the dark. I can recount many stories that I experienced and that added to the challenge Sutherland kitchen being closed when we got there at 11am, 1 hour before official cut off. I learned and will be doing grit 2022 and then returning to finish And looking at TL. i dont think people realize how remote you get out there alone in the dark. TL is last thing on your mind and if you really want to know just check the log sheet when you sign in. You dont do the munga because it is in your comfort zone .
  16. Ask around. Some. Guys have gotten lost and did extra and I mean extra km. But you have to go back to where you left. In 2019 few guys pulled pulled out due to go's failing in the heat or not working properly and getting turned around. I found 3 guys thta got lost and ended up following me to. An rv. 2 lost for 3 hours and one riding in the wrong direction for 2. When they say put your bike the way you are going it is not a joke. You can ride on the wrong side of a fence and not even know it. When the ride while you sleep hits it can really screw with your mind.
  17. They dont it is up to you.
  18. You can finish tomorrow if you want but wont be official. a few have done that to just cover the distance Only people that have done or attempted knows what it takes just to enter never mind the rest of the journey. All winners finish or not.
  19. Where most of the field is now is were the body goes. Hands dont want to work, feet dont want to work, Butt is hurting and mind has left. And maddogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun. Oh and met vetseun at 94.7 but didn't know it was him. Just saw the bike and had a cant
  20. PANARACER GRAVEL KING SK + 700C X 50C TYRE Gravel King SS+ are you expecting stock soon?
  21. im assuming magalie park? from the pic. I have done a few long aduax rides there and never had any issues but if you feel unsafe go with your gut. plenty of MTB trails. especially vangaalen, breeds etc. Also sure if you check on facebook you will find local guys. also the canals rides on the other side (r2ts routes etc. and those are popular Tour de dam Vangaalen the downhill at the cable car. been told this is awesome https://www.bikemap.net/en/l/1015621/

Agreed with above . My issue is with the handling of the situation. all the blame is being shifted to the riders and none to organizer or CSA as a sanctioning body. We had same issues when I was an Archer. The organizers would always blame the shooters. Know the rules blah blah. but when you point out a genuine issue that could have been prevented mums the word. and we had the same arguments year in and year out and it never changed. See my FB post According to point 4. Then the obstacle which is the chevron that was in the way of making the left turn should have been cleared. and pointing out obstacles oh an this will include the tape? is that not an obstacle to clear instead of just riding over it???and gonna be tough doing that with a rider so close? Yes at the point were the tape is crossed someone should have indicated the error or picked it up. What leaves a bad taste is the complete lack of accountability on CSA side. Reading the conclusion your language use is very timid on the "lead vehicle" but harsh on the rider. "and this will make everyone feel terrible about the situation" Really! Perhaps this re-write will help explain: "The lead vehicle has clearly failed in its mandate of rider safety and the necessary action and improved training to prevent future incidents will be addressed. We apologize to the riders involved on the situation and the handling of it afterwards and will insure to address future issues in a more professional manner."
  23. oh to add. on weekedns in the early morning 6-8 and late afternoon 14-18 and lunch time12-14 it does get busy with traffic as people head out to return or head out to lunch. For MTB go do breedst neck. up and over. park the same place as hekpoort but go the other way down the dirt road.
