  1. I take it this was on the Sani2c all nighter? I must say I can't actually understand why there is even room for an eBike category on a very hard endurance event like this? Then again is this kind of ultra event so different to the normal S2C? I'm confused.
  2. No its not very slack for a hard tail at all. As soon as you sit on it the HTA steepens because there is no sag out back. BTW, on my road bike, my toes can hit the front wheel if there is an unhappy confluence of pedal and steering input. Those so called trail HT's are more like road bikes 🙂
  3. Makes sense for you to opt for either to save time and fuel. That said, why don't you just ride a normal bike? I did some commuting on my road bike yesterday between Kenilworth and Tokai area to drop and fetch my car for a service. Unfortunately the trip from home to work is longer and I'd have to take back roads in dodgy areas with high traffic so its not an option for me.
  4. Latest reviews put the latest RS Lyric with buttercup rubbers at the bottom of the damper and airspring shafts and a super quiet damper (that is now more like the grip 2 - i.e an IFP as opposed to a bladder (I stand to be corrected if I've got this slightly wrong) as ahead of the fox 36 Grip 2 in terms of performance.
  5. I guess there is a place for everything and jump skills are all part of the equation. I will break out the 26er HT for that Plasir flow trail. Haven't been out to try it yet. Looks like a lot of fun.
  6. An eMote will do that to a cassette or was this on your able bodied bike? 🙂
  7. Just do it #bro's
  8. As many opinions as there are tyre brands...I've had less than perfect tyres from several brands over the years. Maybe it was a bad batch in your case. The Ardents I have on my enduro HT have been awesome - they repair well with plugs and the rear tyre, despite being worn out still holds air perfectly. I run them on old 26" Stans Flow rims. The Maxxis Assegai on my other bike has been fit and forget too. I think there are several variable - rim design, pressure, rider weight all play a role. A friend of mine had tyres pop off his MTB rims (Roval carbons) while riding on the tar. He's a heavy lad and pressures were too high for summer.
  9. I am hoping by next summer 🙂 Lots to do.
  10. Finished the paintwork out back and reassembled the linkage and shock after greasing the bearings. Never did get the swingarm off. May have to wind down the preload but going to test it as is... Back wheel on to make the bike easier to move. Really do need new disks front and back. Rear caliper is also in need of a service kit.
  11. Keep it up guys!
  12. Thanks Yaseen. Go for it guys - lets get our voices heard where it matters.
  13. I'll take the battery
  14. Ya, this thread reminded me my Magicshine batteries need replacement. Must say those R500 buck Chinese units have never missed a beat, bar the rather poor batteries.
  15. OP asks for info and then disappears. Rest of us go mad discussing bike lights. Not complaining just wondering what I can start a thread about to see how many pages it will get to...
  16. I created a league for Bikehubbers...password is "bikehub"
  17. You guys must both know that same as a moto, your most important brake is your front because the front wheel develops grip as it weights up under braking while the rear loses grip as the front end compresses and weight transfers there. Trail builders must have hated you 🙂
  18. Sponsors see reputational risk in a situation like this. There were three people involved in this sorry tale. One is dead, one on the run and one losing sponsors. Its quite clear that Strickland was a major actor in what transpired, probably not guilty of murder but nonetheless his behaviour was causally linked to what happened. The sponsors actions are morally justified and probably legally (contractually) valid too.
  19. https://www.velonews.com/news/gravel/sponsors-cut-ties-with-colin-strickland-in-wake-of-moriah-wilson-murder-case/ I wonder if this idiot will learn anything?
  20. That's 1/3 the price of a Lyne dropper post with lever... ouch.
  21. I'm willing to bet he is morally culpable (dirty lying cheat) but not a murderer. Have you read the police affidavit?
  22. Here's a wake up call re Tokai and indeed any tracks in the park. There is a SAN Parks review of the management framework for Tokai and Cecilia underway at the moment. Once implemented this plan will determine the way these areas are managed for the next twenty years or so. TokaiMTB have already spent many hours attending meetings and making representations on behalf of mountain bikers and the retention of the trails there. There will be a detailed press release in due course. The principal issues are environmental and there is a particular organization that proposes a total ban on single track MTB trails in Tokai. Yes, they would like to ban bikes off anything other than jeep track because of the perceived (but not proven) environmental impact bikes have, from erosion to foreign seed importation) The fact that our members and sponsors help TokaiMTB keep the trails as well maintained as they are is one of the reasons SANP are happy with the trail network and support our efforts. Were they left to erode away and turn to rutted water courses, the environmental lobbyists would have even more ammunition to use against us. I'd personally like to thank all of you who do contribute to the trails and have joined TokaiMTB. Your R400 contribution is helping keep the trails safe and well maintained which in turn will be one of the reasons why these tracks will be available in perpetuity.
  23. Dude you so wrong. There are historic cobbles all over the back roads of Kalk Bay, or are these too steep for those ridiculous gear ratio's you ride. Bladdy roadies 🙂
  24. @Robbie Stewartyou mention the cost of travel to Stellenbosch, for instance. I used to head out to there or Wellington far more often but cost and time constraints mean it hardly happens anymore. Even Tokai, which is barely 10km from home seems a tad far on an enduro bike (and still have juice to ride all the fun stuff) and too close to drive to, hence my reliance on the green belt/TM tracks. That said, I'm looking forward to going for a post work spin at Hoogies one of these days when the new descent is open. Tokai requires a bit more than one visit to appreciate unless you have time and energy (battery power?) to ride everything in a day. It is still the busiest trail riding area in the country based on Strava and Trailforks data. This is partly because it is close to a very big urban area with no other options for proper MTB tracks within 30km.
