  1. Had a Tokai test of my new Spank rear rim with Nukeproof foam insert. The rims give a very tight fit even to a Maxxis tyre so I was forced to ditch my too tight WTB Tough casing tyre ifo a lowly exo Maxxis Aggressor. That said I wasn't too worried about the tyre or rim as I had the insert. Fitting the insert was easy despite the tight tyre fit In short and admittedly after one ride, I am sold on the foam feeling. Rear wheel feels better damped and just different to a tyre without. The new wheel build - done by William at William's Bike Shop in SSW also surprised me. Feels stiffer (not hard) and 'more efficient as a result. I rolled my super high bars back a bit and quite liked the feeling. I am enjoying the better suspension balance that comes with a more even weight distribution front to back and less weight on my hands when descending. 20220828_140502.heic 20220828_140543.heic 20220828_140559.heic
  2. If anyone missed it, someone has uploaded both races on youtube. There is all the raucous sound but no inane commentary.
  3. Sounds familiar
  4. Come on guys, back on topic, how would you set your suspension and flip chips up for that drop. On an ebike would you use full power mode? (Q - surely it should be easy to get the speed on a Levo making me wonder if the Eeb rider had a flat battery 🙂 )
  5. Zipp make moto style carbon rims that are supposed to be more forgiving as they allow a bit of rim float at the nipples. Expensive and earlier ones were prone to breaking I believe. That said, I suspect that most "normal" carbon rims are a bit more forgiving than those Ibis ones.
  6. Your Thule back pack is on its way to you as I type.
  7. If you don't have DSTV get your VPN's sorted. Love WC time, geo blocking and all. Track looks fun and perhaps not as gnarly as some but if it rains...
  8. Looks like the best track of the year - a bit of DH and Enduro thrown in for good measure.
  9. These are aluminium rims and handlebars, so no, not in this case.
  10. Pity he didn't answer some of the questions eg bike weight and what his training week looks like - "it depends" isn't an answer. At least Thule got mentioned at least 3 times though 🙂
  11. https://windscribe.com/ Free for up to 10 gigs per month is the one I have. Used only for worlds.
  12. Oh dear - its a vpn for the DH and Tiz for the XCO in my case...Hate the Worlds 😉
  13. Some hubs seem to have really poor internal tolerances which lead to failures. The failure I describe was after a few years on a Funn 142x12 hub so I wasn't too upset, but I had a trash Spesh rear hub that chewed bearings from the outset and was clearly made very poorly. My wife's really old DT star ratchet wheelset has never needed new bearings and they still feel quite acceptable.
  14. Is the hub also only 1 month old? I had the bearing in a freehub fail and it only made the noise when actually pedaling. I was convinced it was the seat post until I realized it made the same horrible noise when standing or seated while pedaling.
  15. For a bit of entertainment and proper trails try this
  16. Looks like a lot of fun but quite costly and far to travel from CT.
  17. I think it was a roid rage induced crash into Nino?
  18. But does it come with a skin suit and an automatic weight reduction diet and exercise program to maximize the benefits??
  19. Well along with my internally insulated bars I got some Nukeproof tyre inserts. So I am filling as much as possible with foam. Frame is a good idea actually - then after filling you pull oyut the cables and you have internal frame tubes for when they need replacement. Wow - uses are endless.
  20. The commentary is terrible and the short recaps are pretty poor too. Such amazing tracks and proper DH trails but poor media. Supported by Spar - so weird. I bet its cheaper to do the Swiss version than our local one, even if you fly there and stay in an air bnb. Anyone done the maths?
  21. You jest, I had considered trying just that. The stuff doesn't extend to the end of the bars but you can see the green foam if you shine a torch in. It looks just like that Sista foam shite.
  22. How about SBS brake pads for a moto - R280. Easily 10 times the pad material as some MTB brakes, last many thousands of km but SRAM want R400 for theirs.
  23. I think your answer lies on the Spank website - they even do it to some rims they sell. I can't feel the foam when riding 🙂
  24. Could be but I've played a round a bit and sometimes wear some long stretchy gym/running pants over my cycling shorts in winter/rain. Keeps you clean and I think a bit warmer than without. You also get fleecy lycra longs with padding that are very cosy.
