  1. I've got an old and well used 2003/4 Manitou SixPort and want to know 2 things. It is worth servicing, and if so who in Cape Town does that? Thanks.
  2. Just don't have much faith in anyone involved in sales right now. Getting over it.
  3. mmmmm. I'm NOT sure if I'd believe this. It sound very suspicious to me.

    Riding in MUD

I reckon this is the way to go, I've got a 50% used SLX cassette and will use my current chain. It will be muddy for sure.

    Riding in MUD

Yes. Any advice? mmmm. Need to get an old training bike to be able to practice in mud; its wrecking my fancy new bike.

  8. I had the same problem and it ended up recking my chain. I did a very wet ride; washed the bike off, left it in my garae for a day and the chain was looking BAD. I live 50m from the sea in Blouberg so I jst keep my bike indoors; ALWAYS make SURE it is dry and never leave the chain on the bike if its is wet, I take it ff, clean it and then lube it with a thicker lube. Helps a treat for rust.
  9. Hi I'm doing a stage race in a month or so and the mud, sorry MUDDDD, is rather bad apparently; ala new chain, cassette, hubs. bb and cables after the race. Is there a useful technique or helpful tips (apart from making sure your chain is cleaned and well lubed with wet lube prior to each stage) that anyone can offer me? I find I suffer badly in the mud; like I used to in the sand, until I learnt to keep my weight off the saddle and keep my cadence high. So is there a similar tip or technique for mud and soemthing to help me prolong my ride and life of bike? At the moment I avoid it as much as possible; even a small patch of mud and my bike sounds like it is going to break and it is almost brand new. Wll the Chain AND cassette are!
  10. Have a look at Rapidsport on the corner of Bree and Wale I think it is. It is on the 3rd or 4th floor of the building; a well hidden shop. Not THE best quality stuff but good value for money. Not sure what they charge to make special shirts but I know they do.
  11. Which means I need to get a Discovery credit card...mmmmm... 1 with ABSA is tough enough to manage.

    Camelbak

I have a VERY basic camelbak, which holds about 2 litres, and has place for a multitool, my car key and that is pretty much it. I used to use my MTB baggy pockets but I recently changed to bibs and no more pockets. HELP. I cannot load my shirt much more either. Can anyone help me out in finding a decent one with more space without bankrupting me, all this in Cape Town? GO.
  13. OK - So I've heard that Clicks will not order the products I'm looking for.... Does anyone know if the they count towards the Vitality discount thingy of purchased at Pick 'n Pay - Because there are 2 PnP's close to me that stock almost every USN product out there!
  14. Can you tell? mmmmm; I've got to stop saying stuff like that... Sorry.
  15. There is always the riding at Killarney on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays for everyone, Wednesdays for the league manne.
  16. Not so much a training tip but its kind of relevant to the Iron man. Iron Man is a hero. Iron Woman is a command. wahahahaha.
  17. Yes the Fiziks are the shizz.
  18. NOT jealous at all.
  19. If she was 9th was she the lady who left her cycling shirt and gloves at home? Dude she was riding like crazy!
  20. So it seems there is nothing I can do about it?
  21. Just DO NOT leave it outside. I do the same as Indigo Kid ito the freezing. It works well for me.
  22. Nope, chain and cassette are still at the LBS, and I'm at work, but have requested they keep it aside.
  23. Yeah the first "muddy" ride I did was the 3rd ride on the bike I ever did so I'm not sure what to think anymore. Hell what is the point of buying an MTB if cannot handle 25km or even 100km of mud?? What would one then do in a race of 100km if it was wet? Stop half-way and replace the chain or wash your bike, dry it and then re-lube it?? (This is not meant as a dig at you Sharkie 2, but I do feel it is a question someone, anyone, needs to at least consider and think about and possibly answer.) The point is what is the use of aspiring to completer a hardcore MTB event, only to have the unreliability prevent you from competing or even enjoying it. Ja look its tight, I'm flippen bleak at doing the Sabie Experience, which is known for being wet, and having to chicken out due to chain wear half way trough a 75/85km stage.
  24. Road or MTB? I have less of a hard time accepting that road riding (bigger blades = more tension on the chain) will wear a chain quicker. I was my chain clean clean, then soak it in a tube of White lightening Epic lube. Where can I find out what Shimano say about chain maintenance?
  25. Do you perhaps know who I can speak to? I've had bikes for YEARS and even though this is the fittest I've ever been (ito cycling) I have never had this happen this badly before. sorry that sounded arrogant, what I mean is that I'd be VERY surprised that my riding style, as opposed to a professional cyclist, would be aggressive enough to wear my chain that quickly.
