Black tyres would make it look like a MTB. No, white tyres it is. Hellocolour is right, this is form over function and style over substance - though Ti and leather give you both. Very nice bike, perfect for the promenade.

No, I don't think so - though I can't find one in my desk right now. That curvy thing at the logo looks dodgy. I wouldn't send the goods at all until I had definite proof that the funds had cleared.
Also a new (old) bike - first MTb, actually. A GT Avalance 2. Feels lighter than expected, compared to my steel road bikes. Got it Tuesday and still haven't had a chance to ride. Roll on tomorrow. (Incidentally, are Rocket Rons tubeless or not - or does it depend on the rim?)
Total Immersion is great. First, you find out where your real centre of balance is - more at the hips than the chest so you swim more level (they take underwater video, so you see how *** your normal swimming is). At first, it feels like you're swimming downwards. Then, strangely, you punch the water instead of pulling your way through (you'll swim with ping-pong balls at one stage). It's much more relaxing and easier on the shoulders. You also glide further. They call it "fish-like" swimming, because you rotate your body, twisting like a corkscrew. That also aids your speed by making you more streamlined. That said, I've never tried it anywhere except in a pool. But I can't see why it would be any different in open water.
I tend to wander, meander, stop at shops, sightsee, potter, perambulate, waste time, drink coffee, so a 50k trip can take anything like 4 or 5 hours. That said, my computer usually says around 25km/h. Not much more for races, unfortunately: I think around 28km/h has been about my fastest. Disappointing. Where's your average, Rattlesnake?
And here I thought it was "Gay May" on the Hub, what with the Hot Men on Bikes thread. I was about to end all my posts with "Mwah!" Good point, Tubehunter. I don't want to mess things up for everyone else. Well, not yet anyway. I'll do that when I'm the slow rider blocking the singletrack on a fast race.
So I just bought myself a 2nd-hand MTB (GT Avalanche 2.0) from Avron. I stay in Greenpoint, and know there's a trail of sorts at the top of Glengariff - on the Table Mountain thread that looks like a walking trail. Is that right? (I've seen a pic where it seems Hairy was on it one morning.) If I ride on it, what's the worst that could happen? Or where else is good for a noob?
Stellenbosch cops are quite paraat. Maybe phone them and ask if a car or bike could be out on the road at that time, keeping a look-out for the offender?
