  1. Hmm, team challenge at "24 hours at Weisenhof" comes to mind. Never having ridden an MTB before, I hired one at 10 in the morning and rode my first lap about 2 hours later. Fell off after about 300 metres (on a slope, head down, feet in the air). Rode into a tree shortly after. Then drew the 10pm slot, which took me 1hr40mins to do 1 lap (about 4km, I think). I couldn't see more than 2 metres in front of the bike. After that, I just turned over and slept for the rest of my turns throughout the night. But the 94.7 also comes to mind. A saddle sore the size of my thumb (literally) on that long back stretch of highway.
  2. Permanently or temporarily? The latter, I use masking or electrical tape. Otherwise Tippex or a very light scoreline with a steel scribe.
  3. They exist.
  4. It's Friday! This thread should start hotting up soon.
  5. Kiff single-speed commuters too. Wouldn't mind one myself.
  6. Brake. But this suggests it's not your cranks.

    Eddy?

I heard he was in town - some other guys have seen him too. Eddy that is, not Eddy, unless Eddy also rides through Bantry Bay, in which case Eddy has been seen not once, but twice.
  8. I think the right-hand side looks more mysterious ...
  9. I'm inclined to the purple .. violet indigo blue green yellow orange red ... I think it'll make the blue pop. Green's too safe by being complementary.
  10. Jared who sits behind me in the office did 4:28 ..... on his BMX. Sick.
  11. Anyone see good prices on helmets? And shorts or bibs? (I drove past earlier - with that parking, I think I'll ride my bike there tomorrow.)

    Argus tire pressure

My tyres say 120 psi, so I go to 130psi (or, if you're finicky, 8.96318448 bar) 'cos I only wear 60kg. Should I go harder, as a last minute adjustment to make the night before when I also index the gears, clean out the bearings, and adjust the brakes?
  13.
  14. Maybe he and Tony Ehrenreich want to ride together on the cycle paths?
  15. The left-hand lane is for the MTBs.
  16. That's just the thing - it's not pain like I feel after a gym session or anything. It's more of a deep throbbing ache, like the bones are being stretched - and I've read all the stuff about cyclists getting brittle bones (not that I ride that much). But yes, maybe I need to make an appointment with Jeroen Swart. I'm just scared he'll tell me all my bikes are the wrong size for me ...
  17. Fonts of knowledge and experience! Remember that ache you got in your legs when you were a kid? I get them after a race or longish ride (41km yesterday - I know that's not far - but the legs really got sore). Does anyone else get them? But the real question is, is this something to worry about? Osteoporosis? Old age? A heated imagination? Second childhood? Protracted or delayed puberty?
  18. Bonus and I are in the same boat. Apart from Bay City and a few other races, I'm only getting going now. 41km this morning to work, 41km home ...
  19. After paying R490 for my substitution entry, I'll ride the damn thing if there's thunder, lightning, snow, and arctic blizzards. My miserly nature demands its money's worth.
  20. Good rework, Blokman. Keeeffff!
  21. Brrr! Chilly. I'll have to wear my jacket.
  22. Hairy, you cheating? Those are Critical Mass peeps in the background. I see my mate Dave's green Du Toit fixie on the left there. Unless the buggers are doing rides without me ...
  23. As long as it's round all round, it's good. But I ride Serfas, and they're brilliant.
  24. Helmet-Schmelmet. I still have my bad Supersport helmet, and it sucks sweats big time. Only for races. Anyway, at least there are lots of companies & people starting to do some good work here. The PPA's sticker, Engen Cyclists initiative, this ad ...
