  1. Simple, IQ drop after 200 km of riding, means that some riders just dont have the grey matter to understand what is going on, with a chaotic finish area. They hear a little conspiracy theory and suddenly want to get all UCI on everyone
  2. You can't buy a result with a single import in a race with over 3000 m of climbing. You dudes looked styling as you passed me on the way down to Montague, calm and in control. Rubbish legs, what nonsense, the last time you had rubbish legs was Lourensford in 2002 when I beat you.
  3. Its not who gets to pull the yellow jersey on that counts, its who gets to keep it once the tests are in
  4. No sorry you are wrong, its only from a sub three in the August that you get to wear kit like this (chicks version is all I could find)
  5. The only race ride where a sub three means anything is the Argus, if you can hang with the bunch over the climbs then you have earned it.
  6. Don't do it, protect your frame too much and you wont have an excuse to upgrade in a few years.
  7. At least the sport is clean now, I can sleep at night knowing that all is right in the world
  8. I got a R500 set from chainreaction for 70.3 last year. My average speed on a 55 km training ride, in the same conditions went up by 2 - 3 km/h. So you are probably looking at around 10-15 minutes faster over ironman distance. Just don't expect the comfort and fit that you get from a TT bike and consequently the better leg condition for the run.
  9. Both bikes are fantastic, I ride a Slice, which is the best bike I have ever ridden. I have the Hi Mod frame which is apparently lighter and stiffer than the one that comes with the 105 group, so check the weight vs the Cervelo. If I recall correctly the Slice was also designed for a longer leg / shorter torso type build so it is a bit more upright, with the Cervelo having a longer top tube and a lower body position. But of course you need the right bar on the bike otherwise the geometry is irrelevant. I recommend that you read the reviews on (especially) slowtwitch, bikeradar etc... there is a lot of info out there. Finally make a decision based on the fit. In triathlon / TT fit is king
  10. Geometry promotes a more open hip angle. Your position is somewhat compromised with a higher front end, but its nice to be able to use your legs a bit once you are done riding.
  11. I hear its Dope!
  12. You know the other day I saw a post office delivery worker riding on the wrong side of the road. Someone needs to stop the scourge of postie lawlessness
  13. camelbak
  14. New headline sponsor for Ironman is my guess
  15. Go with the Dura Ace groupset, fantastic group and the increase in quality will improve your riding pleasure and probably improve speed as well with its improved shifting and lighter weight. You can then flog the 105 for a few bob and save up a while for a new set of wheels. You will always be able to get mid range wheels for R4k but it is unlikely that you will get DA for that price any time soon. IMO you are also wasting your money on a R4k set of wheels, you need to lay out some more cash to get a good set of race wheels.
  16. Another important consideration is the wheelset that comes with each bike. In my experience ultegra is much better than 105, which tells me to go for Felt, With a R4k saving you have a better groupset and you can afford a wheelset upgrade to something more aero.
  17. Adjust your price league, easy peasy
  18. People seem to be getting confused, this is a race not a tour of the western cape. The route is going to be similar each year, there are venues that work and portions of the ride that work, these will come up again and again, because this makes for the best racing. Its like Le Tour which does the same iconic climbs year after year.
  19. Oh dear here we go again, this has been covered exhaustively in another thread, go search for it.
  20. Had a good day out, solid swim, stayed out of trouble, but the group was a nice size so not too hectic, fantastic bike leg, pity that it is shorter than last year, but nice that that horrible little detour is out. I wish it was back up to around 50 km, 42 is just to short for a good test. The run course was fantastic, far better than the two loops of last year with all that tar. great to wind through the vineyards, who said 30 - 40 cm deep rivers? a few little splashes and that was it. The run could have been better marked, I got a bit lost and had spend some time going up the wrong way, but got back on course after losing about a minute. Love this event, back for more next year.
  21. Cannondale have some fantastic alu frames and Omico do bring them in, check them out, its also the way I am going to go
  22. Was a fantastic day out, conditions were great, only a light breeze to cool us off a bit. Amazing setting, good organisation, lovely course and plenty to keep my support crew occupied, jumping castles, food stalls, swimming pools etc.. Was my second go at this event and I will be back for more next year. Only problem was some route markings on the run being confusing, at one point there were three options to chose from with three arrows pointing in three directions, after flogging my guts out on the bike this was a bit rough, but only lost a minute I guess.
  23. Sixth place is the best Saffa with the Caveman, but 3 of our boys in the top 15 makes for good reading, add that to the SA contingent's results in Kona, with James 4th and Buckingham and Troutman taking home 1st and second in their age groups gives me a warm fuzzy feeling about triathlon in SA
  24. I would feel fine doing the bulk of riding on the MTB, as you are on flat farm roads it is easy to ride a steady output as you would in IM, but I would throw in a few longer rides on your TT bike from time to time and increase this until you do 80 % of your rides on your race bike as you get closer to the event
  25. Test me and I will probably test positive for absorbing the cortisone in the cream that I use on my kids' eczema, no TUE for that I am sure. Although it is true in my my case, it is a fantastic excuse, even Lance would kick himself for not having come up with it.
