  1. Hi Bond, what do you think of the special below? https://www.easybike.co.za/tacx-flux-s-smart-trainer.html I would still need to buy a 105 cassette and a thru axle for the sl6 tarmac.
  2. Hi guys I actually started another thread a while back. Allota.... [Danger Powers] People gave me great advise. Long story short, this is for my son, he has a spez tarmac sl6, 105 cassette, 11 speed. I tried out a wheel on trainer today, it was not great, very bouncy and no real connectivity. Its a unit which sold for 6k, selling for 4k, but i think its time, you buy once, cry once, budget is 13k, and i would like whoever i buy from, to do the Payflex, just so it eases the purchase pain. I could also do the Discovery card / bank thing, probably at Sportsmans. I dont have miles built up, so lets forget about the 15th of each month..... I have Googles my eyes out, Elite, Wahoo, Tacx, on some threads on this forum they mention, dont use small gears, all gears, might have to adjust derailleur, i dont want to do that, and i will tell my mini me to just use some of the gears. Who has crazy deals on now, should i look for something which has a cassette? I see 105 Shimano cassettes are under a grand. Are there cool bundle deals where you get a heart rate strap with. For context, he trains hard, he has my old Huawei gt 3 watch, which actually works like a bomb and lasts 2 weeks per charge, shows him all his stats, but i guess it wont really help with any of the smart trainers? The space we have for him to start this is upstairs, all alone, there is a tv there, i guess i can get a mega long hdmi cable and hook that up to his laptop, i3 ssd, should be fine. But which would you choose, a wahoo core, get 15% discount and sportsmans, or an Elite, maybe find with a cassette, or any other make? Would be nice to get something which has the front wheel riser block thing and maybe other stuff included. Thanx in advance guys!
  3. What exactly happened, how?
  4. What were you selling, price? Why not use Bikehub Pay?
  5. Thanx for the detailed information Marc!
  6. Thanx Chris, will check that out. I see Sportsmans has the kickr for R12999, i think i can get the wellness discount, would this be a good start point into smart trainers? Its nota cheap 'entry level' but like i said, i would rather buy once and maybe i can use it as well.
  7. Hi everyone, I have no idea what to look for. 😕 My 19 year old son has got bitten by the road bike badly, however, training at night, with lights, is freaking me out. Spending bucks on a gym with crap what bikes which don't work, bad saddle set ups, doesn't help either. I would like to get him a smart trainer. I don't even know what to look for second hand, what is good, what should i stay away from. I see a few on market place, bike hub, ranging from 8k up to 16k. I don't want to make a mistake, like i always say, BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE. Do most of these have all the sensors, like whats and so on? He has a Huawei gt3 watch, that's all, and when he is on the bike it works just fine. I would like the same data on the smart trainer, if not more. So guys, what should i look at, where are the specials, or point me in the direction of a good second hand deal. PS, he has a spez sl6 tarmac 11 speed, will probably train mostly on that. Another PS, do all of these smart trainers connect to a normal tv, so you can do the swift thing, or are there monthly subs a person must pay depending on which brand or make you opt for? If i can find a deal online and it has PayFlex or similar, i will maybe look at that, pay it off over 4 months.
  8. Kyle, I thought you looking for an XC, marathon, type bike? I would still look at carbon titans, used 1 or 2 year old XC bikes.
  9. Calm down guy. Someone else also posted there concerns with how CSA went about this. I am not on his side, what a stupid comment.
  10. Its scary how CSA just posts this, its really sensitive in nature, normally its not just blurted out in the open. But jeez, that's hectic, his career is over, poor victims as well. I doubt he can appeal this for a second time.
  11. In don't know who this Nore Ply guy is, he never ever replies, and he is everywhere.
  12. I am not actually sure. I recall an SA lady in XCO, but she didnt fair well, the competition is just on another level, but maybe it was her. Candice is however doing dam well now!
  13. Thats good news, i hope you used bike hub pay, i did last week, its worth every cent!
  14. Why cant she get part of a team, seems such a shame, and she is a legend in the Epic. Maybe Cannondale must incorporate her? To get 6th place is scary good.
  15. On a slightly different note, are there any bike computers which can link with Huawei gt2 watches? I don't think the Huawei watch can link with Garmin Edge, would be great though.
  16. Okay thanx, trying to see what is online, second hand, cant find much, but thats the plan for sure!
  17. Hi Andreas, i dont think its for sale in SA, unless i am wrong, it really looks like a nice unit.
  18. Thanx Chris Think i will have to look for a second hand 530, that might be the best entry level option. I agree with you, the closer the car, more flashing, i like that. Will see what i can find online and take it from there.
  19. Hi Chris, shot for the quick reply man. His GT3 Watch does have insane battery life, i have the new one GT4, 2 weeks battery life, and stunning screen, but enough about that, so what do you recon i should do here. Find the Garmin at the best price, then pair with his phone? That phone sits in his cargo pants [ciovita pocket], so doubt that will help much 😕 I guess i must look for a head unit then, the most basic, cheapest? What is the difference between wahoo and garmin? Or could you maount his samsung phone and use that, just scared of theft...
  20. Hi guys I need your help on this. My son just got his first road bike. He is straining for half iron man, also doesn't help him and me watching Giro each day Duuuh....I am rather petrified about him training on the roads, that's the beauty with mountain biking, but lets not get side tracked here. I feel its safer to have one of these rear lite radar things. He only has a Huawei GT3 watch, no Garmin of any sort, and his trusty samsung s22 phone. So what to do??? My thoughts, of not really knowing Garmin head units, and i dont have bucks to spend big now. Should i try find a good deal on either the trek or garmin radar. I thought the garmin once came with a small screen that showed different lights, or do you need a garmin unit, or could it pair with his phone, how would he get notifications of cars and so on? What entry level bike head units / computers are there which can pair with these devices ? Just want to mention, his GT3 Watch with the app is actually dam impressive, 12 days bat life, shows all the stats you need, he has strava on his phone as well, seems the watch links to that just fine. He has no power meters or anything, bike is naked, but i want him to be safe. Maybe someone has second hand, not even sure what i should be looking at. What do you gents suggest, who is using which one and where do you think we must start with hardware wise?
  21. But if you are heavier then you faster on the downhills, gravity must assist us 😎
  22. I think its hard for all of us to admit that we just need to go on a diet, loose 5kg, versus loose 5kg on upgrading to a 10kg or 12kg MTB. Probably because its easier to trade your bike in than starve yourself 😁
  23. I see tons of the stage has been cancelled or made shorter, when do they start again today?
  24. I see you, and i raise you.
  25. I will try this. Maybe i am doing something wrong when trying to pull each bracket tight. It feels like the downtube of each bike are far wider than the rubber clamps. So when you try and stretch the rubber over and hook in, its almost impossible. In my mind, if those clamps are wider, i could make it work. Maybe other makes like Thule have wider ones or better construction, no idea...But we gonna be doing a few races this year and its all i have to transport our 2 x bikes.
