  1. @guidodg didn't you get hit quite hard with customs/duties when you brought this in? I seem to remember someone posting about a bike computer via AliExpress incurring costs almost equivalent to the purchase price.. Looking for a cheap option that will connect to a Garmin varia for my GF to use while cycling with me. She uses a Polar watch as her primary and really doesn't need navigation functionality.
  2. I'm afraid you're making loads of assumptions there... Agreed the option to try on before you buy is definitely something I'd much prefer! But getting time to go to multiple shops is problematic. My R2500+ Monton bibs are just less than a year old and aren't holding up well. Another local brand who's R2k bibs I really enjoy has a defect where the mesh in the front of the pad breaks after a year...same result with 4 pairs bought over about 3yrs. Another local brand no longer exists. Another one just doesn't fit me as well as I'd like. I rode in Rapid Sport kit for years when they were one of the only local options and they worked for my body shape, unfortunately they don't any more. At last count I have 7 bikes, combined spend on 6 of them was R65k and that includes my carbon Cannondale roadie at R25k...not everyone subscribes to the same spending behaviour... If you're training in the bibs and they work, then you aren't suddenly going to have saddle sores just because you're taking part in an overpriced event. I've been messing around with bikes for 35yrs, my first shorts had an actual chamois, I **** you not! At least they weren't woollen like some other members probably used 😆 If there was a local option that fitted me well, lasted, and didn't make me feel I was being gouged, then I'd buy without hesitation. I'm trying the Temu options because I've run out of ideas locally and am not willing to drop R2500 on the off chance the bibs might work for me...
  3. Found this Ultra light stove wind shield advertised on Temu... can't vouch for it, but friends have something similar which works very well... https://share.temu.com/ufmeeatU8AB
  4. Definitely try @NotSoBigBen's suggestion before resorting to resetting the device. Possible that you just need to reset the connection between Garmin & Strava. I've had a similar issue with my Polar previously.
  5. I'm looking for the Temu version of Monton 😄 I've tried a couple of Temu bibs, for what it's worth here are my personal findings. - AHBK. Best fitting Temu bibs I've tried, but the pad is super thick, I somehow missed them stating that it was a 200 density. It's what I imagine walking around wearing adult diapers feels like! No leg grippers. I kept them for indoor and short (<2hrs) outdoor sessions. - Souke. Not bad but there's some excess fabric on the front of the hips area. Pad seems to sit a bit weirdly in the front. Being used indoors only. Short sessions. - Hiserwa. Good pad & placement. Shorts seem to be made from a single piece of fabric, no seams, not sure how that's possible. Unsure of how the fit would be actually pedalling. Shoulder straps far too short. Returned for full credit. For the record I'm 79kg @ 1.85m with a long torso. Definitely not an SA boereseun build 😆 At the price, even taking into account losses on duties I'm willing to try a couple more given that local options start at around R2500+
  6. Seriously, don't overthink it. Sit back, relax and your parcel will arrive a couple of days ahead of the Temu "latest expected" delivery date. It's the Chinese, it might not work the way you think it should, but it will work 😉 I now don't bother checking the tracking status. Order, get notified to pay custom duties, get notified that my parcel might be delivered today, or more likely tomorrow, receive parcel.... it's not awesome if you're expecting to be able to receive an accurately scheduled delivery, but it works.
  7. Out of interest what bibs did you buy? I've tried a couple of options but so far they've been so-so. Returned 2, kept 1 for indoor sessions.
  8. It should be fine. I seem to remember experiencing something like this. Excuse the poor terminology, but I think the waybill only becomes active to the customer once it's cleared customs in the Temu process flow. I'd say take a breath, give it 48hrs and see what happens. I tend to order, pay VAT/duties when instructed, then be pleasantly surprised when my order magically appears at my gate....the last mile delivery notifications are ***! Luckily I work from home... Edit: I think Temu might bulk ship into SA then split into the individual orders. Not sure if that's possible?
  9. My last 2 orders were with GFS and the process is as you described it.
  10. Ok so I ended up ordering the "Kinan 35mm" road wheels. Arrived in a Kore box, no Kinan branding anywhere, Kore rim tape the only branding on the wheels. With duties total cost was about R5500. Set them up tubeless with Specialized Roubaix TR tyres. Covered 160km on them over the weekend. So far I'm super happy with them. Freehub isn't that loud, whisper quiet compared to my Hunts. Had my LBS check them out and he was pretty impressed with the visual quality, rear hub appears to be a Dt Swiss replica.
  11. Actually there's a hubber riding as well, who's just finished...990km in 136hrs elapsed time, think about 19000m elevation!
  12. Exactly! We don't need more laws, or stricter regulations, we just need enforcement of the existing laws! Oh, that and perhaps some accountability for our own actions by all motorists...we aren't children, we shouldn't need someone else to have to tell us it's wrong to drive drunk, speed recklessly, drive through red lights, have zero respect for other road users etc
  13. Yeah, 100% in agreement. I was devastated when my new fancy(for me) Hunt carbon wheels arrived and the freehub was so loud I couldn't hold a conversation when freewheeling downhill ☹️
  14. Looks like 90 days: https://www.temu.com/return-and-refund-policy.html
  15. Damn. I'm currently deciding between some Kinan 35mm or iKuos 45mm wheels but I'm guessing they're going to all be equally loud ☹️
  16. Thanks. How noisy is the freehub compared to your Hunt's? My Hunts are obnoxiously loud, I would never have bought them if I'd realised just how loud they were! 😖
  17. Thanks 22-23mm internal width on the ones I've seen, isn't that fairly wide? e.g: https://www.temu.com/za/-t700-800-carbon-fiber-wheelset-45mm--bike-frame-36---rear-4-bearings-medium-locking-axle-taiwan-spoke--rims-sleek-wheel-design-durable-wheel-construction-g-601103885035558.html
  18. Anyone bought carbon road/gravel wheels off Temu? At around R5-6k it's an interesting prospect.... ...although there is the concern about the resultant potential for expensive dental work 😆
  19. This ☝️ It blows my mind that it's seen as socially acceptable to drink alcohol in volume and then get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, or just that getting drunk is cool & desirable. I've always wondered who's driving the vehicles home when I see people in the beer tent after sporting events (and yes cycle races are top of mind). [Yes, I do drink alcohol but in moderation and no more than a single beer if I'm going to be driving later]
  20. Unfortunately I think we can be pretty sure he'll have been granted bail... I'd really love to be wrong, but history strongly suggests otherwise.
  21. @Zebra if you're looking for just a tether, I'm pretty sure I've got a Garmin one (or two..) lying around unused. Ping me in mid Jan when I'm back in CT if you still need, and we can make a plan to get one to you.
  22. There's another one...the word that needs to be used is "collision". An accident suggests it might not have been avoidable whereas the majority of collisions involving motorists, could easily have been avoided.
  23. If you're interested in steel frame options, my Specialized Sequoia Elite (56/L) will be going on the market in mid-Jan. Steel frame, carbon fork, Shimano 105 2x with hydraulic brakes. DM me and I can share more details. Personal opinion, the Rook is a bit on the chunky side, plus mechanical disc brakes (I think?), Sensuh groupset (are spares easily available?).. My GF is riding a TR Switch, carbon version & I upgraded it to hydraulic brakes, it's been a great buy.
  24. Condolences to the family of the rider 😢 The reporting on incidents like this is a huge part of the problem. Case in point: "Emergency services responded to the scene where a car on Victoria Road, Camps Bay, knocked a cyclist down." bull****! The car didn't kill the cyclist, the motorist did! It's about time the human involved (aka motorist) was acknowledged. As someone who has been struck 3 times by motorists, I can guarantee that it wasn't the car's fault! It was entirely on the motorist & their actions.
