  1. Yeah, no idea why they didn't feed them out the top section of trunking & reduce the exposure.
  2. Ok, just had my system installed. Not sure if I'm being paranoid but has anyone secured their battery from theft? My setup is in my freestanding garage which opens onto the road & isn't on the house alarm system. Surely nowadays R30k batteries are targets for theft?
  3. It happened a couple of years ago up in Silvermine reserve at the top of ou Kaapse in Cape Town.
  4. No vehicles involved or equipment failure as I understand it, just a riding incident, but I don't know the full details.
  5. The accident victim is a friend of a friend. I think he spent a couple of days in ICU but is now on the long road to recovery. My understanding is that he suffered a punctured lung, broke multiple ribs (think 8), collarbone and scapula.
  6. Ok, now you're mystifying things for me even more! So you're not proud of SA "things" unless some European organisation says it's worthwhile? I'm pretty sure that's not what you mean, you strike me as someone who embraces the beauty of SA.....hence my intrigue. I'd suggest it becoming a UCI race is a negative for the average saffa rider. No doubt there's a cost involved which will be pushed onto the riders.
  7. I'm intrigued by your response. Why does a certification change the appeal of a race for you? It's the same race, just now wrapped in more red tape... Not trying to troll, honestly interested.
  8. I came across him one day while running & stopped to try have a conversation with him. Tried suggesting to him that if he continues with his actions at best he's just going to get pepper sprayed by someone, at worst beaten up. Unfortunately he's definitely a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic...his response was "but cyclist's shorts feel so nice"...
  9. Sorry, but I don't think this is a misunderstanding. You're suggesting that people need to be incentivized to follow the rules, I'm saying that people need to just follow the rules... simple. We don't get to choose to follow only those rules that suit us. In that case why bother to pay the entry fee, just arrive on the start line at a time of your choosing and go wild...after all, it's only the rules that suggest you need to pay to participate.
  10. Mmm, I think this is a bit millennial.... don't take responsibility for your own actions, rather wait for someone else to. As South Africans we're great at pointing the finger at a lack of policing.... while selectively breaking whatever rules we determine to be "not really needed"... Anyways, at least reading about bunch chaos at DC keeps any potential FOMO at bay.
  11. Perhaps the move is to avoid a clash with the Olympics. Back to the traditional Paris finish in 2025 hopefully.
  12. In my defence at no stage did I say that I expected things to improve, I was just in my frustration pointing out how basic the solution could be in the land of dreams. Nothing in my pipe unfortunately, with the total clusterfk of a store refitting happening at Checkers my time in Muizenberg has been limited lately.
  13. It blows my mind that people think the solution lies with the marshalls. Are we all 10yr old children? It's simple, as someone pointed out earlier, it's meant to be a team time trial...self-police and adhere to TT boxes. Don't draft other teams, don't create bunches...if a faster team passes you then drop back. Likewise if you pass another team don't then slow up. I haven't ridden DC for years, it totally lost it's appeal when it turned into a bunch ride. Yes, I'm almost as old as DnD and sometimes just as grumpy..
  14. Suggest you post an ad in the classifieds. See here: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/g/entries-and-services
  15. Yup, Louis Garneau. Awesome light weight road shoes, if you're not paying for them...or at least that's been my experience. Both soles peeled off from the uppers...in the end given the lack of support from the agents I used an epoxy glue and stuck them back together. Done it a couple of times now.
  16. I've got a pair of their top end road shoes, I'd definitely say they're narrow and even slightly smaller than the equivalent size in other brands. If I was to buy a replacement pair I'd definitely size up. Compared to my Catlike & Specialized MTB shoes, they run small for the size. As an aside, I'd never buy another pair of LG shoes. They fell apart within a year with max 3000km on them. Support from the agents was really poor.
  17. New shifter, new rear derailleur, new cassette, new chain, new chainring....unless your current 2x10 drivechain is poked & needs replacing, it's not worth the change. .... personal opinion of a 2x troglodyte
  18. I wonder if they aren't parking at the stone church waiting for a suitable target/s to ride past.
  19. @Benky fantastic achievement, it's seriously impressive! Thanks for ensuring that SA was so well represented. Nutrition is obviously vitally important, how were you able to refuel to the extent you needed? Any interesting food choices? As an aside, the Spez Sequoia I bought from you years ago has brought me many hours of exploration & enjoyment, so thanks for that!
  20. A new addition to the household. Thanks to @Fu Dogfor transferring ownership and a couple of other hubbers for good deals on some components.
  21. If she's been sponsored the bike by Sling she might want to at least add it as her Strava gear & give them the necessary exposure.
  22. We used to call him Paul, not sure why or if that was actually his name! He used to do laps down Camps bay main Rd. @JewbaccaI had a relatively similar interaction with him outside Checkers previously.
  23. Well, last August I got hit by a member of the SA Navy as he turned down towards the Naval base in Simonstown, 50m away from the police station. He stopped, gave false details and then drove off when I said I wanted the cops on scene. My mate tracked him going through naval security and they identified him & confirmed the details were false. I tried to get Simonstown police more involved than just filling out an accident report for insurance. After about 5 fruitless attempts to get to speak with the station commander I gave up. Dealing with the concussion and looking after myself with a fractured right elbow, which needed surgery, was in the end of higher priority. People generally are not nice* and don't give a toss about others.. *original phrase replaced for the pg13 filter
  24. Most likely the incident that a cycling club from Ocean View was unfortunately involved in. Sounds like a taxi overtaking into oncoming traffic hit the one rider. It appears the rider is sort of ok, badly lacerated arm according to the FB post below. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0qZ7wqUBpX66t256gWaW8vFLh5iLNBXWc1DRDn6dsVMbw5wgNT7NjE5YHw42ujSVbl&id=292947584552129
