  1. @guidodg when is the canola generally harvested? I can't make the event but am hoping to get out for a ride in October...it would be sad if the yellow fields were gone. Also do you find that the quality of the gravel roads decreases significantly with the heavy usage over harvest time?
  2. @Matt I've noticed that the search alert notifications in messages seem to have lost the parameters to the individual item. Instead of the link in the message taking me to the actual item, it's just loading a filtered search. See example below of the link in a notification message: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/all-ads?category=road-bikes&minimum_price=2000&maximum_price=8500&bypass_collection=1 Then the link in the email notification: https://link.mail.bikehub.co.za/CL0/https:%2F%2Fbikehub.co.za%2Fclassifieds%2Fitem%2Froad-bikes%2F846589%2Fsilverback-strela-comp%3Futm_source=email_notification%26utm_medium=email%26utm_campaign=search_alert/2/010201992a775c03-5df98732-71b6-475f-89b0-a278d8a9bf28-000000/YcjRX1kfI45O41USj0-l-5h5WuTyFYI_EpZeZTucC2o=421
  3. Now, now, don't get practical....😉
  4. Realise I wasn't very clear. I was suggesting that the OP change the 42T to a 46 or 48T and then continue to run the same cassette on both wheelsets. That was in response to the desire to stick to 1x. Switching to 2x could turn out to be expensive..
  5. Sorry for your loss. Please post in the stolen bikes section.
  6. Your problem isn't the 11T at the back, it's the 42T chainring at the front... With a 46T at the back you should be ok running a 46 or 48 at the front, unless you're planning on doing some bike packing rides on steep terrain.. That of course assumes the bike can take a larger chainring.
  7. This was shared on a WhatsApp group.
  8. Thanks, quite like the Jack stand idea as it gives height adjustment. Something to think about while slowly dying of boredom on the trainer 👍🏼
  9. Has anyone got an inexpensive solution to replace the front wheel of a bike when on a trainer (kickR)? I'm a bit tight for space and being able to do away with the front wheel and replace it with some sort of stand would be great. Thanks
  10. Well done to Matt! Strange name for a local race, it had me confused for a bit, but then I guess it's the US.
  11. I really don't support whatever it is that Mook is trying to achieve, but what some people seem to feel are acceptable comments just aren't. This thread is meant to be about motorists vs cyclists, but what it has unfortunately highlighted is that most cyclists are also motorists ☹️
  12. Try read it all again... The cyclists passed the car which was driving exceeding slowly. It's a dual carriageway road. The cyclists didn't get irrationally upset about another road user driving slower than them, they just safely passed and kept on going. Still no clarity as to the source of the picture, I'm assuming it's a still from a dashcam? I mean there's no way an "experienced cyclist" would use a mobile phone while driving.
  13. If anyone else wondered who the team Josh is riding for is, transpires it's a Red Bull Bora feeder team! https://globalpeloton.substack.com/p/a-valuable-learning-experience-south

  15. I'd second looking for a hybrid. Flat bar (like a mountain bike has), upright riding position, easy gearing, wider tyres. Where are you based?
  16. Here we go, just search for Raleigh in Road bike sales.... might be worth investigating whether the hanger used on the carbon Raleighs would work. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/803715/raleigh-team-carbon-56cm-excellent-condition
  17. Great attitude 👍🏼 I did a bit of work in Kigali 2016-18, it's a super safe destination and not at all comparable to SA from a crime & safety perspective. If your folks have any concerns DM me and I'd be happy to have a chat with them. Just make sure to check your accommodation reviews and using Google Street view if possible. I'm surprised at how low the costs you've quoted are, things might be a little more "rustic" than you expect 😄 Hopefully flights are easier now, but when I was traveling there it was impossible to go CT to Kigali same day as the JHB - Kigali flight used to leave around 8am. Likewise coming back Kigali - JHB would only land around 10pm. Finally, take your climbing legs... it's not called the land of 1000 Hills for nothing!
  18. BEN - Bicycle Empowerment Network Google them...
  19. Top tip, keep a small bottle of water in the freezer and roll your feet with that. Dual benefit of icing & massage.
  20. Again, that's at the discretion of the commissaries and is clearly influenced by who the rider is and whether the TV camera is around. Look at when Ganna crashed, he was allowed virtually zero time behind the car (that we saw). I'm saying remove the ambiguity. If you're serious about implementing better medical checks with the goal of improving rider safety, then align it with a clear rule removing the time pressure for those checks to happen.
  21. Thanks for the response 👍🏼 Yup, talking about being motor paced behind a team car. I'm suggesting that instead of it being subjectively allowed/disallowed by the commissaries instead they make a rule that states you can be motor paced by a team car back to the bunch/cars if you've required by the race Dr to undergo a concussion test or other attention.
  22. John, out of interest that you know of, has there been any discussion around allowing riders to be assisted back to the group after medical evaluation?
  23. Sure, then the volume of bikes on the 2nd hand market at any time might be lower, leading to more competitive pricing.
