  1. 😆 You've actually circled me! White & red helmet. I was busy looking for the biggest, comfiest looking "mattress" to land on. Just remember going down and having others piling into my bike that luckily protected me.
  2. That's exactly what happened years ago to the front of 1F (I think). Took down about 40-50 of us, was total carnage. Just because some idiot thought it would be clever to try dodge round outside the cones and then cut back in. We got front page coverage in the weekend Argus & centre spread in the Cycle tour book....proper celebrity stuff 😖
  3. Have a look at the thread posted in the previous reply.
  4. 42x11 at a cadence of 90 rpm results in a speed of approximately 44km/hr. That's not an overly fast cadence, assuming you regularly train at that and quicker. However if the majority of your cycling is done at a much slower cadence then sitting at 85-90 rpm is going to elevate your HR and fatigue you faster. If you use the tables supplied you can get an indication of cadence & resultant speed using different gearing. Take note of a couple. Then when you're training try maintain certain cadences based on the speed & gearing you've noted.
  5. Supposedly not cycling involved. It sounds like an elderly gent passed away.
  6. I heard from a reliable source that the cyclist was hit head on by the motorcyclist while descending Chappies direction Noordhoek. Supposedly the motorcyclist was passing a car on a blind corner. Note, I don't think the car in pic was involved, think it was just passing through afterwards.
  7. Sure, easy if the data structures are the same...
  8. Isn't that an aluminium frame? I rode a friend's Norco Search a couple of times, great bike and excellent value for money. His was definitely an alu frame version though.
  9. Not sure when you're thinking of going, just be aware that it's bound to a bit dusty now with the vegetation being burnt. Think the fire that's ravaged the Die Dam/Buffelsjag area might still be burning. Quite a large tract of land already ravaged 😢
  10. Out of interest why the hesitation to do the Cederberg circuit? It really is a special place to spend time on a bicycle! As an aside I've unfortunately been buzzed by the white bakkie brigade on a lot of gravel roads but didn't have any issues in the Cederberg.
  11. Off to bed before 9.30pm!? I thought ultra endurance athletes never slept! Sure, I agree with the reasoning as to why it's difficult to find stock. But suggesting that there are/were/have been millions of options isn't what I've experienced. I'd love to just walk into the Spez shop, grab the white Align MIPS helmet and walk out (I've heard a certain shop in town let's you get stuff for free) but it just doesn't fit my (possibly) uniquely shaped head..
  12. Don't be confused, it's simpler than you think. Your opinion: lot's of brands with lots of options My opinion: not really that many options that I've been able to find. At no point in my reply to you did I reference looking for a specific brand/model. I'm merely stating my opinion that although it might appear that there's a large choice, once you get looking it actually isn't that diverse. Suggesting that looking for a white helmet within a certain budget that fits well is a unicorn is just being obtuse...
  13. Mmm, not sure I agree with you here. Perhaps I just haven't found the motherlode. Definitely not a huge selection in the south, or southern suburbs. Big difference between brands being represented and actually finding a helmet in stock that fits well & is available in the size and colour (white or silver) you want. Maybe I'm too particular, but I do like wearing a helmet that feels right.
  14. Was looking at a specific Giro model, transpires it comes in a MIPS version but not available in SA. Definitely seems like we're getting a small segment of what's on offer internationally.
  15. Great, thanks. Well, actually not great potentially starting just before 9am but definitely better than 10am! I'd better pack lunch and extra sun cream!
  16. Ok so it appears I'm riding the cycle tour with my SO. It'll be her first event, think it'll be my 18th or 19th. Roughly what time/group would someone with a previous 5hr result start? It's been awhile since I've ridden and have always had the benefit of starting fairly early. Just trying to manage some expectations here around what is most likely going to be a late start and post lunch finish!
  17. Omnico used to import a wide range of Bell & Giro. Unfortunately for some reason they decided to no longer bring in the higher end Bell range (road). Bell used to be my go to choice so I'm very bleak. Also in the market for a new helmet and struggling to find similar fitting options in other brands - plus stock appears to be an issue severely limiting choice.
  18. If the helmet is under warranty they should just replace the helmet, forget about trying to find a part!
  19. If you haven't had the helmet long then it should be covered under warranty. Chat with the shop you bought it from.
  20. At 1.77m I'd think you'd be better suited to a medium frame. I'm 1.85m and ride a L. Just check the size, you don't want to be too stretched out.
  21. One assumes that the online rates are up to date...but when I traveled regularly for business and was away for 2/3 days it was cheaper for me to self-drive and pay parking. Also reliability of Uber in the south early mornings is suspect!
  22. You should be able to work out the parking costs here: https://www.airports.co.za/utilities/parking-calculator
  23. @Prince Albert Cycles Arno, this might interest you for your initiative.
