  1. I've got a set of their fairly lightweight alu disc brake wheels on my gravel bike. So far done about 5000km on them with zero issues. Would definitely buy another set for my road bike if they were easily available.
  2. I was wondering where the seatpost went! That bike got hit seriously hard by the fugly stick..
  3. Wonder how they'd react if your mtb was replaced by a plastic kids bike...much easier to load into the car..
  4. It's significantly cheaper if you purchase your level-3 activity permit as a group of 4 people. Think it works out around R400 per person instead of R695. Phone the Bike Park at Constantia Uitsig, they used to collate applications and then get them processed as groups. I'm fairly sure they still do it. If you decide to go through to purchase it yourself, just make sure it's not during loadshedding. The Tokai SANParks office doesn't process applications when the power is off....they're zone 8
  5. Wild card doesn't allow you cycling access. One needs a level 3 activity permit for that. What's really special is that I can access Silvermine west with just my activity card if I'm on my bike or with my dog. But if neither of those two are with me, then the activity card doesn't grant access.... Impressive thinking by the SANParks team in Pretoria who came up with this stuff.
  6. Ok, thanks to @splat I'm sorted. Thanks again for your efforts @RobertWhitehead For clarity, here's a pic of the non-drive side 28mm bb30 with the magic shim..
  7. Thanks Robert but unfortunately I need the 28mm from a 30/28.
  8. Thanks Robert, no pics unfortunately. I've never actually seen one just trying to source based on the instructions from my mechanic. The shim isn't actually loose. It's press fitted to the non-drive side of the Praxis bb. This comment from another forum describes it better: "the Praxis bottom bracket is Bb30 bearing both sides, but the 28mm side has a shim pressed into the bearing. I used a hammer and a socket head to drive the shim out .." All this effort to change the cranks on a Giant Escape commuter that's running 3x to a 2x gravel crank for my GF..
  9. Update: sourced! No longer needed. Hi All Looking for an old Praxis bb30 bottom bracket. Doesn't need to be in working condition, I actually just need the shim from the 28mm non-drive side. Bought a Praxis crankset but need the shim to be able to use the cranks 😖 Have tried a number of CT bike shops unfortunately to no avail. Happy to pay. Thanks!
  10. For perspective, early last year I sold my old Felt F3 2009 model for R7k - full carbon with Ultegra 10sp components, newer aluminium wheels plus cranks had been upgraded to 11sp 105 (2018). Full drive chain had also been replaced in 2018 So just be patient, pop an alert on road bikes in the classified ads and something much better will come your way. Plus if you keep saving while you wait your budget will increase.
  11. Best you try on before you buy. Some people have a more oval head shape, some round. Different helmet brands meet this need by being either round or oval.
  12. Yup, especially if your rear tyre has minimal tread left 😆 It motivated me to finally replace my tyres!
  13. The Oceanview area has unfortunately been the site of a few security issues over the last few years. Previously you could safely cut over past Oceanview heights but nowadays it's preferable to take the longer way around just to be on the safe side. If you've ridden in CT before you'll know that you need to be aware of your surroundings like in any big city. Also ensure to ride defensively when it comes to motor vehicles. As PureSavage will attest unfortunately some of them really are out to get you.
  14. If you're up for a gravel ride I'd definitely recommend heading over gysmanshoek pass and then looping back over Garcia pass. The Gysmanshoek area unfortunately got devastated in a fire a year or two ago (it was a protea wonderland) but it's still a stunning route.
  15. ...sucks to be that guy! Not to sidetrack this thread, but I'm assuming nothing positive has yet come out of all the effort you've put in to get the guys prosecuted?
  16. I'd definitely suggest doing a big day ride then. Start at 7am, if you've got bike lights then get going earlier, sunrise is beautiful this time of year, even on the "wrong" side. Stop for lunch on your way back in Scarborough at The Village Hub: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NScXeGhMXzZPda4L8 When leaving Scarborough just make sure to stick to the coastal road and ride around to Kommetjie. Avoid taking the short cut over Oceanview for security reasons. (Checkout the map attached) Recommend Windguru for Cape Point wind forecasts, their rain prediction isn't great but wind in the south is usually spot on: https://www.windguru.cz/128493 Whatever you do, just make sure to do more in the reserve than just ride to the actual point. Riding down to Olifantsbos is a 20km out & back extension but well worth it and also the best chance of seeing Bontebok and maybe even an Eland. Circle route including a visit to the Gifkommetjie view site is another must do in the reserve. Stop in Simonstown for a morning coffee & pastry, you'll see a couple of cafe's on the right just before Jubilee square. There's a convenience store on the left just as you leave Simonstown, it'll be the last refueling option for water etc before you reach the cafe in the reserve at the actual point. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RbMBzfqH3RvX99LJ7 Enjoy!
  17. As others have mentioned, at this time of year the summer winds aren't nearly as much of a factor. Looking at Windguru (Cape Point) the forecast is looking good around the 25th, nothing more serious than a light 25km/hr wind. I'd suggest a big day out ride of 130-40km or so - very doable, just take it easy there are loads of great places to stop for coffee & lunch. So ride from town over Chapman's peak then head through Simonstown to the point. Return via Scarborough back to Chapman's peak. If you're going to be in CT for a couple of days then another option would be to do two rides. Ride 1: hire a car, drive to Simonstown and ride into Cape Point. You can do 50km just in the reserve itself so with the addition of the stretch from Simonstown you're looking at 50-65km. When in the point Make sure to explore all the roads on the west side, Olifantsbos, Circle Route, Gifkommetjie, Cape of Good Hope. Make the most of your time in the reserve, it's a very special place. Look out for bontebok at Olifantsbos & ostriches at Cape of Good Hope. Also make sure to go visit the penguins at Boulders when in Simonstown. Ride 2: from town over Suikerbossie to Houtbay then Chapman's peak, then over Black hill to Glencairn and through Simonstown then past Cape Point gates around to Scarborough and back to town, returning over Chapman's peak. Make the most of your time when you're here, you can rest & recover on the plane ride home!
  18. Thanks for sharing. That's not a great crash replacement policy at only 20% off....but better than nothing I guess. Definitely a reason to favour the brands like Giro, Bell (if there was stock), Lazer etc that offer closer to 50% off.
  19. Out of interest, please let us know what discount you get on the replacement. Thanks
  20. Yup. 50% off a replacement. Ensuring that you buy a brand that offers a decent crash replacement policy makes it far easier to just always err on the side of caution when it comes to replacing the helmet. I recently tested the policy, couldn't fault the service received. Just make sure to always keep an electronic copy of your sales invoice/slip when purchasing. https://www.lazersport.com/global/crash-replacement-program
  21. Sorry, only dealt with Bell, Giro & Lazer. Contact the shop you bought it from, they'll sort it out with the distributor.
  22. Check what the crash replacement policy is on the brand. You should get 40-60% off the price of a replacement unit. Given that the helmet is there to protect a fairly valuable part of your anatomy rather don't risk it.. Also, try squeeze the helmet. Sometimes small cracks are difficult to see but if the helmet has any give, then they're there.
  23. Hey @guidodg I'm considering doing a gravel loop from Riviersondereind to Greyton and back this weekend. Where in Greyton would you recommend for a pastry and coffee stop? Emphasis on the pastry more than the coffee!
  24. Not quite sure what you mean by coaster hub, but you can get a 20T freewheel sprocket from Rook: https://rookcycles.com/collections/parts-and-accessories/products/kmc-16t-freewheel?variant=13343197331479
