  1. Yep, wanted to give my old helmet to the Build-a-bike Project, but this is a worthy recipient as well. have a few extra tubes and some gloves for him too. Made an arrangment for tomorrow. But he wil have to sort out the sound system himself
  2. Coming out of a Shoprite close to my office I saw this cool bicycle standing outside. While looking at it the owner, a security guard came out. Was very chuffed when I asked him about the bike and if its fine if I take a few pics. Some accessories include: two rear LED lights Two front lights rear view mirrors number plate holder for cellphone made from wire "cubby hole" etc etc Jabu also mentioned that he is always looking for some new things to make the bike even nicer. Exactly like we do, only our priorities are little different. And so often when you ask a fellow mtb'er about his bike, the reaction is not as friendly and well, proud. Kind of a nice reality check I guess
  3. Yeah They have group rides departing from the shop around 7am on a Saturday morning. They cater for the beginners, intermediate and fit riders and its a nice bunch of people riding there. Highly recommended!
  4. And I thought I was the only one too.... The start to winter hasnt been good to me at all. had this strange flu/cold/sinus whatever bug that didnt want to let go. I took my IDT to my office this morning and I will rather be on the trainer in lunchtime than actually going for lunch (Not that we actually have any lunchtime to speak off) So today will mark the start of my re-introduction into cycling after a 5 or 6 week lay-off One "eish" moment when you put your belt in the same hole as when you where riding regularly, is one "eish" too many!!
  5. I've done this race way back in 1997 and 1998. From what i can remember this year's race looks like the same route more or less. Most important lesson I learnt from 1st race is not to nail it from stage 1. That year I was the 3rd mtb over the climb on stage 1 and suffered for the rest of the race. If you're on a MTB the clims should be ok, I can remember many guys on road bikes pushing and wanting to d*nner their bikes down the cliff. A very nice race with nice vibe at the finish. Something I really want to do again sometime. I also agree with what Look695 said about the Jock, its not named after that tough never say die Staffie for nothing!
  6. My son having a ball on Saturday while mom was in the shops... Taken with BB Bold 9900
  7. I hope those f**kers burn and die a slow death! RIP fellow mtb'er, know your colleagues will hunt your killers down.
  8. I just soak in water, and brush of with the soap thats left after bike is washed and drying, rinse off and let dry upside down on washing line, sometimes if soles are very muddy, I'll take the high pressure washer and blast them all side....so far no hassles. If I m bored or have more time than usual, I'll Mr Min them too
  9. For your sake I really hope you stay healthy. My sad story: Finished course of anti-biotics, waited two more days, easy 24km ride last Saturday with group, and same distance at Groenkloof this week Monday. Guess what, Tuesday afternoon it started all over again. Now Im on vitamins, pro-biotics and all. No riding again
  10. Nick, still got your phone number frm last time, will give u a call soon!!
  11. Oops only saw your post re helmets. Nick if u work at same place I can drop mine off again
  12. Would u take on old helmet still ok a good condition?
  13. just to mention something else here and sorry for hijacking BUT why on earth would you want to PAY to be a volunteer? something like 3500 I think. I know that you get the option for an entry the following year. But someone like me who will never do the Epic, might still want to do something like this because of being completely smitten with the sport?
  14. Took my new Watu for a group ride on Saturday and to Groenkloof yesterday, lightweight, good ventilation and comfy. very happy with my purchase!
  15. Eish That oke could have gone anywhere, Laudium, Diepsloot, Olievenhoutbosch,Irene etc etc My folks stay around that area, will have a look text your nr to zero eight three four double zero two eight double six should I see something will let you know. Also have a lookat the Epic SPorts website....drop them an emaill which they will forward to all their members. Lets find this bike guys!
  16. Wasit stolen in Centurion as in near Pretoria More details would be nice, then we can have a look for it!
  17. Thx PotatoBagMan, Bought one earlier today at Hatfield Cycles in Pretoria for R475-00 not bad either.... a lekker red one
  18. Btw give hatfield cycles a call as well, they have them at very close to CWC price!
  19. based on your argument one can say that the look/appearance of your bike doenst matter? bollocks I say, of course it does. But we are all allowed to have our opinion about stuff, thats after all what freedom of speech is about
  20. no expert on this at all, but I'd say go for 32GI, low GI endurance energy drink. I dont think it should be harmfull to him. You can buy them in single serving sachets so it's ideal should you want to test it first
  21. If you ordered from them at that good price you would have ended up payingalmost 595 due to postage anyways, unless off course you ordered some other goodies. I emailed probike to see if other stores in Pta have them in stock as well
  22. Thanks Slick, yeah need to find one that doenst make me look anymore ridiculous than I do with my current helmet! I know the Bell would probably be better choice if you take the crash replacement warrantee into consideration, but a good fit is the decider. Bushcamp: They have them in stock at HotSpot Cycles in Atterbury Road, well priced at 595 as well. Gonna go there on Friday to have a look.
  23. So I'm in the market for a new helmet in the 500-600ZAR price range. Really like the look of the Scott Watu, and it seems like a decent helmet. Does anyone here have one and what are your views about it. Another option is the Bell Ukon. How do these two compare? I bought my current helmet (a Dunlop) at Game right when I started two years ago and its starting to pull loose all over, so I figured its time for a change.
  24. from www.thesportsbasement.co.za I got a 2011 Specialized Rockhopper with SLX rear derailler, Octalink cranks, deore shifters, Juicy 3 brakes and Rockshoc Recon Silver front shock for 6K. they are in Joburg though, So if you shop around you will get a good deal with some money to spare
  25. you can also check out this link: http://led.linear1.org/lumen.wiz candela (millicandela) to lumen conversion wizard This calculator allows you to do an approximate conversion between millicandelas (or candelas) and lumens for an LED where you know the beam angle. The reason it's approximate is because the specs don't usually include information about how the luminous intensity (in candelas) was measured. This calculator is perhaps most useful in comparing the light output of LEDs with different beam angles. To briefly explain the math the wizard does, it simply applies the conversion 1 candela = 1 lumen/steradian. To do this, it converts the beam angle you supply into a solid angle in units of steradians. The likely thing for a manufacturer to do is to list their luminous intensity spec in the most favorable way possible. So it can be the case that this wizard provides inaccurate values--this happens because the assumption in the wizard is that the luminous intensity value you supply represents an average value across the beam angle you supply. It's too tempting for the suppliers to list a maximum value instead, since there is not a standard for measuring this. Beware especially of wide-angle LEDs, which will probably be distorted the most by this calculation. but the answer is: 1 millicandela = 0.001 lumens
