  1. I basically ended up doing the same, got a wheelset off the Hub (v-brake) for about R400, with a SRAM cassette included....
  2. +1 on the cheapest slicks. got one from Solomons a year and a half ago, still going strong Just get yourself a spare back wheel and cassette, eases the pain from changing tyres all the time
  3. Ordered mine last week Monday, got an email yesterday stating that the order is awaiting shipment, not too shabby either!!
  4. what i know about the technical side of this wonderful sport of ours is very very dangerous and lethal. Not that it has any relevance, but I have a 2010 Spez Rockhopper Comp. When I took it for the first ride in Jan this year the handle bars also felt too wide etc etc. But as many before me said, the bike feels like its so much more responsive and handles like a dream in twisty singletrack. And my previous bike had bar-ends on, and i dont miss them at all. The lenght of the handlebar is also still the same. Just going to get some ESI Chunky grips. Leave it for a while before cutting anything off
  5. Hmm thats Enticing......
  6. If when I get the opportunity to do the Epic one day, I would dig out my copy of the Mountain Bikers Training Bible by Joe Friel, and pay myself R800-00 per month towards gear, supplements etc. sounds like a good plan ja? Should get one to do the Epic (thanks to Rouxtjie) like a boss!
  7. Also ordered my ICE ID PRO on Monday. Scored some brownie points with a usually grumpy wife, think I paid for many many more miles over weekends on my MTB!
  8. Noodle, think u meant the other guy...good luck, once again!
  9. I wouldnt know about MTB but my brother in law has a pacemaker and ran the Comrades three times and also a 100 miler....so you should be ok I guess, best to make double sure. U dont wanna stuff around with things like that. Good luck and hope you get back in the {MTB} saddle soon!
  10. I just knew that either Liz Hatch or Emily Batty would make it to this thread sooner or later. Cav, altough this pic has been posted a number of times on the Hub, each time feels like the first.... Anyways, just waiting to see how the OP's trade goes, before I decide to swop mine too....
  11. Nope only the one, he is 3 and half years old. Neither me nor the wife wants to have more. But if it happens we'd be cool with that!
  12. hahaha, ok dude, sorry about that
  13. Maybe it does, but I love my son to pieces, he is my boy, my buddy, my life. I dont mind doing that at all. my wife then has him Saturday mornings and spending time with my son is a small price to pay for being able to ride over weekends. She does a lot of other things, i dont cook or do dishes or washing so its actually not so bad as it sounds! and when I'm grumpy she throws me out of the house to go ride too!
  14. OK, nice thread and I must say that most guys with issues seem to have worked it out pretty well. Dangle, Iron and Richard Best seem to have to best recipe. we managed to get to some sort of an agreement. During the week, my son is all my responsibilty. I wake him up, dress him, take hom to school, fetch him in afternoons, bathe him, read stories before bedtime. Then I still managed to put IDT session in after the little man is asleep. Since IDT is at work, things are even better. And then I only ride/race once on a weekend for the whole morning. the rest of the weekend I'm at her Majesty's service. Seems to be working ok. She has no interest in the sport whatsoever so this is the best deal I could manage. The other thing I have to mention is, like what Dangle and others said, when you say you will be out 4 hours, keep it to four hours, work in extra time for those awesome longer rides
  15. I'm going through the thread and will comment here and there. I just have the one kid and usually went on trainer anytime between 8:30 and 9pm. But then I brought my trainer to the office and do my sessions at the end of the day (luckily my work situation is allows this) before I go home. This helps a lot then I'm more relaxed and chilled at home during the week
  16. Enticement and Slick Good advice, and yeah, got a HRM that will be put to good use. Im not going full guns blazing right from the start....as was said, will have yo ease into it. I know the zones I am supposed o train in, what would you suggest? 60 -70% for the first week or so? Then when I'm ready, drop Slick a PM for a Spruit coachin session...havent forgotten about that, dude
  17. I guess most of you saw the email that was sent over the weekend. Therein CSA advertises the above-mentioned position. Anyone here considering going for it? With all the issues regarding lisences/PPA and general rants, it seems like this job is one most would not like to have. Being just a middle of the field rider, happily paying his club and lisence fees, I dont have any major issues. But I suspect that the Pro's and top riders here on the Hub, that have dealt more directly with CSA, have more issues. I dont want to open a can of worms here, but just want to see what the main issues are and how they might be resolved etc. And before anyone asks, yes I am considering applying. Thanks!
  18. Hmmm ok I thought of startintg a brand new thread, but this will do. So here goes. I have basically been out of action for 4 months. Long story short, tonsils were removed 31 July. I think I'm ready to get my lazy ass into gear again. So initinally my comeback would start like this: for the first week, 4 x 30 min IDT sessions to get the legs going 2nd week same amount of sessions, bit more effort and 20km weekend ride 3rd week same amount of sessions, 30 km ride LSD 4th week 4x 45 minute sessions and 35km ride over weekend I know I have various training plans and that awesome book by Joe Friel as well, but this is just to get me to some point from where I can start seriously building again. Think it should work...
  19. Just a cloosing remark: I delivered the wheel this afternoon, tuned the bike a bit and gave some extra bits and pieces as well. Had a serious talk with the mom and the boy about helmets, earphones and fixing the brakes. I walked away somewhat redeemed and with a nice batch of health rusks. Am so glad it ended well. Now to get the 2500 for the excess!
  20. We can arrange to meet dirt-rider, just need to use your car if its fine with you
  21. Fester, exactly what I did and doing. Drew up a letter stating that after I deliver the wheel, the case in considered close and no further actions will be taken. Just going to have it signed. Just glad it all worked out relatively ok. Thanks for the advice and supooty guys
  22. yeah, the front bumper has to be replaced (been bashed in by pedal and some other part, on the visual line), right front headlight also needs to be replaced (brackets broke off) and two dents and chips on bonnet. Can believe its so much damage really as the kids as I said is fine. BUT car damage R12500, Insurance excess 2500, child fine and not injured: Priceless
  23. After talking to my advocate friend, just gonna draw up a little something stating that helping with the wheel is by no means an admission of guilt and that we consider the case closed and no further action will be taken. gonna take the wheel through on Friday I wont expect them to pay the excess or any part of it, I can because of the no helmet and front brake and earphones issue. But I'm not the type of person to continue yapping and barking. As most guys said just glad the kid is fine I am with APBCO Insurance Brokers, informed them of advice from advocate, they said its fine like that.
  24. Gonna let insurance sort it out rather, not going to get too involved
  25. Falco, thought I had it sorted out. Fark it. Will deal witrh what ever happens, gonna give my advocate friend a call quickly. Thanks for heads up. You need to be aware of everything that could happen
